Frauds? Liars? yup. 12/12/2013

My car wouldn't start. They tell me to get it into their shop and they can find out what's wrong. They tell me my spark plugs and everything are fine but my crank shaft sensor needs replacing. \r \r They also tell me that there was a problem with my sensor being eroded to the machine and that it may take a bit to get it off. All in all they charge me a little over 200. No big deal right? At $65/hr for labor, who can argue when most places are $90-95/hr.\r \r Then my car didn't start a week later. \r \r I decide to take it somewhere closer. They check the codes and find out that they either:\r a.) never actually replaced my crank shaft sensor\r or b.) replaced it with a very used one.\r \r Oh and my spark plugs actually need need replacing. \r \r I will be having a few choice words for dear ole "Fred" tomorrow. more

GO ANYWHERE ELSE! 7/28/2011

My Dad has owned a diesel repair shop most of my life and has NEVER treated customers the way Fred's treated us. I will never go back. A free estimate turned into $65 when we dropped off the car and then $133 when we went to pick it up. This is all for the estimate, they didn't even do any work to it! Shady, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! Do some research, find somewhere else. more

I wrote this feedback to help out others that may end up in the same situation that I was. I received a quote from Fred's Transmission and Clutch because, much to my suprise, the transmission on my 2008 vehicle went out. I didn't feel like they really wanted to explain to me my options and treated me like there were no other options to fix my car but them. In addition to Fred's, I received quotes from several competitors as well. I was hesitant to call the Chevy dealership because I've always heard their prices are much higher, but decided to call anyway. When I called, I was so shocked! The Chevy dealer in my area was sooooo much more reasonable than the quote I received from Fred's for the same services, and they tossed in a discount on a new set of Goodyear tires AND came to my house and towed the car all for less than the quote Fred's gave me!!! They took their time and explained to me my options and acted as if they appreciated my business, which is extremely important to me when more

Shady and Unprofessional. 7/25/2010

My husband took my car there for a diagnostic on the transmission, which they told him would be free. They said they couldn't get to it until later in the day so my husband left it there. When he called back to check on it they said that it needed a complete transmission rebuild and that it would cost 1500.00 He told them he would take the car home and bring it back when we had the funds. They said he couldn't get the car until he paid 150.00 for a transmission flush and filter change that they did (this service wasn't approved by anyone). They didn't give him any papers stating what exactly would be replaced or what the diagnostics said. I went down to request a list of what parts would be replaced and they said that they weren't sure what it needed yet. I asked them how they could tell him a cost but not know what they were going to do. The guy seemed dumbfounded. We will pay the 150 to get our car and are taking it somewhere else where the mechanics will be upfront with exactly what more

went to Fred's in south bend Jim is a great guy Dave was great also ,Did need a rebuilt Transmission did not want one ,but got it back in great shape with no problems. Thanks guys,your the best. more

Godfather of cars! 2/16/2009

I went to Fred's with my car that was having trouble steering properly and stalling. I thought it was going to cost me my left arm, but his prices were very affordable. And nowadays with the economy, that's saying something! I had my car fixed within a couple days time, was reassured by his professional employees, and I was extremely satisfied with my overall experience. It drives great Fred! Thanks! more

They didn't fix my car and won't give my money back! 9/4/2008

I took my car to Fred's to find out if my Transmission was going out (car was shooting up the rpms when you would go 40-55mph). They told me it was my transmission even after I asked if it could be some kind of sencor or something, he said " NO "! After we paid $1,700.00 to get a rebuilt transmission, Jim from the Western avenue transmission and clutch also told us they would rebuild our transmission... When we got our car back it was doing the same thing , but worse! So we took it back and Jim said "we are sorry we put a different rebuilt transmission in your car." They kept our car again to REALLY rebuild our transmission. Okay! Still did the same thing! The third time they unhooked our battery and which Jim said..."I drove your car over 50 miles), good thing we had enough gas in the car! I picked up the car for the last time, I drove not even a block and it had the same problem I took it in with... So I took my car to a dealer and they fixed my car for $58.00 it was a brake censor. more

Iwas having problems with my car, thought was the trans. Called Fred, he asked me to bring it in so he would be able to diagnose it better, Found bad wheel bearings fixed for me. Did not even cost that much. What a God Father, Thanks Fred, more

Being a woman i was nervous when i started having trans.problems. I called freds first. They looked at my car right away and i was giving the worst news.I needed my trans. to be rebuilt.It was done in a timely fashion at a very reasonable price.THANKS FRED!!! more
