West Seattle's Finest 2/8/2009

This is by far the best restaurant in West Seattle. The food is both delicious and healthy. My favorites are the bruschetta and adonna kabobs, although everything is excellent. Don't let the bright colored exterior and busy California Ave. location fool you. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and you are able to carry on a conversation over dinner. The owner is absolutely charming and the service is wonderful. We planned our office Christmas party here and had a marvelous time. We'll keep coming back! Pros: Flavorful food, friendly service, easy parking, intimate, affordable more

Just Like Istanbul! 12/31/2008

My husband and I visit this restaurant about once a month or every couple of months, and are always happy. We spent some vacation time in Istanbul, Turkey on the Mediterranean and this restaurant brings back those fun memories.\r \r Their hummus is to die for, and the Cacik (tzaziki type dip) is amazing as well. Their flat bread is phenomenal, and their main dishes are worth every bit of time it takes to make them. They obviously care about the quality of what they serve, and that comes through loud and clear in their presentations. \r \r Long story short: This is a great restaurant for groups, a romantic date and just to feel like you're being whisked away to a foreign country for dinner!! more

good food- lax but friendly service 9/21/2008

Had dinner here based on recommendations- the food was good and the little house cute and welcoming but the service was off- scattared- I was there with my mother for an early dinner (6ish) so they weren't exactly busy- everyone was friendly but our table was just overlooked more than a bit- at one point after having my hand up several times a table that was being checked upon for the third time sent the waiter over for us...\r \r I will try again- but perhaps someone in charge needs to tighten up the front of the house just a bit... Pros: relaxed, filling food Cons: lax service- friendly but lax more

A Little bit of Istanbul in West Seattle 3/9/2008

In scouring reviews to find the best Turkish restaurant in Seattle, Ephesus kept appearing, so we made the trip over to West Seattle. The restaurant is a fairly open arrangement in a former house. There?s an attractive waiting area with a fireplace, a scattering of attractive Turkish carpets and decorations, large comfortable chairs and a number of booths with a few tables having a peek-a-boo view of the sound. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. I wouldn't think of the atmosphere as as intimate style that I would associate with being romantic, but it is very attractive and comfortable. Most of the reviews mentioned the hummus and for good reason. It?s something you must have when going there. For main courses we had the shrimp kabob, chicken kabob and lamb platter. All were very good. We were even commenting on the rice---perfectly fluffy with a wonderful mix of spices. We selected a bottle of their private label Merlot which we were told came from Columbia Winery. It was smooth and provided a wonderful accompaniment to our meals. Be sure to save room for the baklava. The baklava at Ephesus is not as sweet as what I?ve had elsewhere which worked for me. Although we found that Turkish coffee wasn?t to our particular likings, the presentation in the demitasse cups was very classy. We lingered for some time enjoying the comfort of the chairs and our conversation. The wait staff remained attentive ensuring we had fresh water and being available should we want anything else. It was a pleasurable evening out and one we plan to repeat. Pros: food and service, particularly the hummus Cons: I wish they had a combination plate, but that's the only con more

Favorite restaurant in West Seattle, best hummus, warm and friendly service 4/14/2007

This is my favorite place in West Seattle, the gentleman who owns it is always behind the open kitchen counter with a smile when you walk in and they have the best hummus I have ever had, they make it fresh every day. The Chicken Toprak and the Lamb Kebabs are to die for and on weekends they make a fantastic pomogranite dip. The atmosphere is warm and comfy and the service is always friendly. It can be very busy on weekends so reso's are a good idea. This is a great stand by, one that you can be assured won't disappoint. The wine list is reasonable, you can get a good bottle for in the $30 range. Their spin on Tiramisu is great, they add coffee beans and the top layer is like a dense chocolate fudge. Whatever you do, don't forget to order the hummus! Pros: Food, parking, service Cons: Sometimes if all the small tables are gone, a party of two ends up at a huge table that canseat 8 more

Best Hummus Ever 3/27/2006

Once you step inside you'll forget the pink exterior instantly. They have gorgeous ornate wood/leather tables and high-back chairs. We were seated in a booth and had prompt wonderful service throughout our visit. I had a glass of the house red wine - pretty good. The hummus appetizer - best hummus ever. Main course - I had lamb kebab, my friend had mixed kebab, both perfectly spiced. For dessert I had baklava and turkish coffee. My friend had something chocolate for dessert and loved it, can't remember what it was. My bill came to $40 with tip and tax. That was for a glass of wine, 1/2 the appetizer, main course, dessert and turkish coffee. If you just go for the main course, it's less that $20. But you MUST get the hummus if you go! Could write much more here but they limit you to 150 words! Pros: Food, Service, Decor, and Parking Cons: Not cheap more

A lovely place 9/1/2005

Everything about our experience at this restaurant was wonderful - the service was fantastic, we had both vegetarians and non-veggies in our group and, across the board, the food was really, really tasty. If you are at all inclined towards mushrooms - their mushroom appetizer is a must. Also, if you do make reservations, ask for the table with the view - it looks out over their little garden and it's the perfect place to watch the sun set. Pros: Great food, Not expensive, Beautiful interior Cons: None that I found more

WOW - What excellent food and experience 8/12/2005

What fantstic food at a low price. We went to this great West Seattle eatery last night and had a tremendous experience. We made reservations for 7:30 PM and although not necessary, our waitress had reserved a table looking out the back window over the gardens, and later, at a tremendous Puget Sound Sunset. I had a Chicken Dish in a Clay Pot and the rest of our party had lamb and a vegetarian clay pot (ask for this) and all were very satisfied. Very good food and decent wine at a good price. Our service was great too, fast, friendly and colorful. Pros: Food, Ambience and View, Service more

Many things to recommend it... 2/16/2005

I found this to be a lovely place. It has the look of a home inside, with a deck for outdoor eating/waiting during the summer. The food was excellent, the service, was average, all in all I liked it. more

scrumpdillyicious 12/5/2003

I've been hesitant to write this review as Ephesus is my family's favorite restaurant; if too many folks know, it won't be special anymore. But it's so good that I must write anyway. We've been eating here for several years and have always had consistently high quality food and service. The reason for this is Chef Hasan is always there cooking or overseeing. The wait staff is excellent and attentive. Ephesus has the freshest year-round tasty salads and most consistently good hummus we've had anywhere. The entrees are imaginative and delicious, they even have their own Washington Merlot. There is no better place for sure in West Seattle and probably the rest of the city, all things considered. The friendliness and lack of pretentiousness will impress you. Reservations aren't usually needed unless you're coming from far away or have a fairly large group, especially on weekends. Pros: quality of food, friendliness, good value more

Favorite Restaurant in Seattle 5/15/2003

I love this place. I've been going here for years. The food is amazing, the freshest salads around. Their pita & hummus is by far the best I've ever had. The owner is very friendly, always says hello & goodbye. All the waitstaff are very pleasant. I was there on New Years Eve & the place was packed, as a matter of fact the waitstaff was temp help, I had a conversation with them about it. so it was an unusual evening for them, I hope you give them another chance. Otherwise you are missing out...BIGTIME! Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, good parking more

Gave up at the door 1/8/2003

I had been wanting to eat here for some time, and thought New Years Eve with my out-of-town guest would be perfect. I called to see if we needed reservations and was told not for just two people. So we get there around 7, and get the coattail cousin treatment. After challenging my explanation of why I had no reservation (just short of calling me a liar), one waiter heaved a sigh, and condescended to make room. I took my guest and my money to Phonecia on Alki and was treated like royalty by the owner. more
