Dr. Key and his staff are very professional and made the entire process comfortable on all levels. From the initial consultation, to the procedure, to the follow-up. For the record, I opted for laser lipolysis instead of the traditional liposuction procedure. It was painless, effective, and had minimal recovery. I went in to the procedure at the end of the week, and was in the office Monday a.m., with no obvious signs of the procedure. Dr. Key discussed all options with me, and let me know what I could expect from the various options...he individualized the most likely outcomes based on his experience and subject matter (me!!!!). This was very helpful in formulating an educated decision. In the end, the results were even better than he projected. There is nothing worse than being over-promised and under-delivered. The Key Laser Institute simply advised what I could expect, and then ultimately ""over-delivered"". I could not be any happier with the results. The staff was very courteous, professional, and made the entire experience pleasant. I am a customer for life, and will refer any of my friends to this clinic without reservation. more

I have been very impressed with the results of the Ulthera treatment I had done this fall (I tried out a special that the clinic was offering). Initially there was a remarkable tightening, which -- as predicted -- subsided after about a week, but now after a few months I think that my skin has been filling in nicely. I had a great experience with the staff members who worked with me and would like to call out Jenny (the RN who performed my procedure) for her professionalism and capable treatment. She knows what she is doing, and is personable and kind. All of the staff I have spoken to have been so friendly and incredibly helpful. As far as I am aware, this is the first (and only) clinic in Portland to have this specific laser treatment. more

Recently, I finally decided to get rid of my dark spots on my face. As a man with freckles, I was hesitant because I didn't want to appear as vane. In addition, I didn't want my freckles to go away so I consulted with Dr. Key on what procedure(s) would be the best. He recommended the IPL treatment. I couldn't be happier with the results. My skin has never looked so clear and healthy. I feel happier and healthier. Thank you!!! more

Whew! Good thing I didn't listen to the couple of bad reviews because my experience at Key Laser and with Dr. Key was amazing. I kind of knew what I wanted done (get rid of my turkey-neck!), but was unsure about what they really could do. After going to the other cosmetic doctors in town, I was glad that Key listened to me, offered me good options, and didn't gouge me either. Now, I look natural, but GREAT. I guess we all get what we put out there, so I'm glad my karma or whatever is good.. Because now I look good too! more

Also had very bad experience with this doctor. Even though we had extended consultation, apparently didn't listen, forgot what was said or didn't care to begin with what my concerns were. Didn't do what I asked for and needed to have done. Total waste of money. Also would not recommend having the so-called RN Shelley work on your face. Like a previous poster, she put textural scarring on my skin as well. Buyer beware! more

I have gone to Dr Key on two different occasions. The man is a leader in laser treatments. Dr. Key is thorough, and his knowledge of his field is unparalled. His staff members exude professionalism, while making you feel comfortable with any treatment. The results were wonderful.. Even after four years, my skin looked younger and healthier than when I started, and they have the pictures to prove it. I had some cosmetic blemishes that have been erased, and I have received some injections that certainly made people look twice. Thanks to Dr. Key and his staff!! more

I had lazer treatment on my face and while I was concerned (you find so much negative information on the internet) I was very happy with the results. Although I am in my mid 60’s my forehead is clear of frown lines and the rest of my face looks wonderful for my age. I will happily return to Dr. Key for further treatment and found the staff to be caring and well trained. more

I was dealing with aging skin issues and was very nervous and skeptical about being treated. I was very impressed, they have the best technology and the highest trained clinicians. I had the extremely bad experience of going to the Key Laser Institute in the last 6 months. NEVER AGAIN! not only was it a total waste of $$ as others have posted, the tech there named Shelley totally scarred the skin under my eye. I had a botched fat injection there from years ago, and had let the staff and Dr. Key know this. She was supposed to be giving me an IPL for redness on my nose and cheeks. Key even told her the area, as did I, as apparently it hadn't been put into my chart, although I had a previous consultation with him the month before. So what does she do? She said she was going to do the whole face and then we'd focus more, into the treatment. She overfocused SO MUCH under my left eye that the area was swollen for 3 1/2 days. I now have diagonal lines going both ways that I never had before, and that appear to be permanent. They only first appeared after the initial swelling went down. I've had several IPLs before (some by untrained girls at a local medispa) and NEVER had the kind of reaction or permanent damage I now have. I called to complain, and to ask why this area had been so focused on to begin with, when not only I, but Dr. Key as well, had told her right before the treatment what areas to focus on Apparently she either totally didn't listen or chose to ignore us. She responded that she was trying to focus on ""the sun damage"" and that a little hydrocortisone would solve the problem. What total BS!. The whole area is so dried out now, that even sleeping on my side creates more lines (or crying or any kind of facial activity!) And of course they deny any culpability or responsibilty whatsoever. That's only 1/2 of the horror story. I have depressed scars on my face that Key was supposed to inject Restylane into. We went over what areas were to be focused on, not once but twice, what the areas were - top priority, second priority, etc. So he overinjects a scar that even now is still lumpy. He deliberately underinjected a scar that was 2nd in priority, saying as he did afterwards, ""We underinject because it's eaiser it put more in than to take it out."" Yea, so he can make another $550 off another half-vial of Restylane! I paid almost $1000 for the first vial! To deliberately manipulate the procedure so you can make more coin, and withhold what I paid for so I'll have come in again and buy more is indeed tantamount to fraud if nothing else! He totally underinjected that one (so it's still very depressed), overinjected another low priority scar (so that now I have a lump above it) and then ""went rogue"" and did whatever areas he wanted, that I didn't even want injected, with the $800 vial of Restylane I had paid for and had directed him as to where I did want this expensive stuff injected! When I tried and point this out to him after the fact, he took no responsibility whatsoever and said ""Well restylane only lasts 6 months anyway. Just massage the lumps and they'll go away. You can't expect perfection."" I don't expect perfection, but when I'm paying almost $1500 (for both IPL and restylane) to someone who is supposed to be SO EXPERIENCED I at least expect my instructions and wishes to be followed and honored for God's sake! He refuses to give even partial refunds or even help with the damage his staff have caused (mainly Shelley). Then to top off the whole messed up experience he tries to sell me a fraxel dot treatment for $1450 instead of trying to help with the scars his med tech caused (either with creams or a restorative treatment or anything. not even an apology.) People who have had similar or worse damage should contact the Better Business Bureau. They can't reverse the damage he and his staff have done, but it will go down in his permanent record with them, so that other unsuspecting, trusting clients can learn from others' horrible experiences, so they will not have to go through them as well.-Angry Client Who's Damaged for Life more

I am shocked at the poor reviews here....the things people complain about are absurd. The doctor was 15 minutes late?! Who cares? So he has a quirky personality and he's eccentric? Doesn't matter. Would you rather have a tall, good-looking, charismatic, friendly doctor with a fabulous bedside manner, or would you rather have one of the best laser artists in the world? I choose the latter - I choose Dr. Key. Dr. Key and his staff are just simply the best. I did research for about one year before choosing this doctor - he's one of the most highly respected professionals in this industry. Laser manufacturers approach Dr. Key specifically to give feedback on new equipment. He fixes laser mistakes made by other doctors - this was huge for me. The type of laser you get is not as important as the person wielding it. Dr. Key is a true artist and I trust him 100%. He understands the complexity of laser treatments and customized the plan for me and my needs. Yes, he's more expensive than the others. When it comes to laser surgery, though, why would you settle for less than the best? more

I was sold fraxel and their laser tightening. They all hurt like hell and they did nothing to improve my face. The tightening you may see initially goes away in a few months.\r They decided to switch one of my treatments to a new machine and I got burned all over my face. They acted like it was my fault. They offered to try and fix it which was not successful. After all this, they would not refund my money. I got the impression that making money is all they care about. The doctor himself does very little if any of the lasers. You are paying for unlicensed personnel or esthetians to do all this expensive stuff. Cons: don't stand behind service more

I'm going to make this simple even though mine is a long story. Don't go here. Paid a thousand bucks for a hundred bucks of work with Dr. Key. He is uncaring, sleazy, and a FRAUD. I demanded that I come back in for the job to be finished correctly and to get my money's worth. This is when nurse practitioner Yan Duan took over ONLY AFTER I complained enough. She was nice and should find another doctor to work with. I will never go back to Key Laser. What a horrible experience. Please, if you're thinking of going here, DON'T. What a waste of money! A couple of weeks ago,I arrived at Key Laser Institute for a consultation and an injection of Botox and the use of a ""filler"" called Juvederm. I was treated so well! A couple of before/after pictures of my face helped the professional there know what to do and how to do it. Everything was explained to me step by step and before I knew it, I was out the door. \r The procedure was painless and easy. I had a slight amount of swelling though was told that this was completely normal. I went on with my day and looked and felt fine. The next day, my lip was alittle puffy but not really noticable to anyone else. \r \r I even got a follow up phone call checking on how I was doing several days after the procedure. \r \r I love the results and I would highly recommend this facility if you are thinking of any kind of age reversing procedure!!! \r signed: Ilookgood! Key Laser Institute was a great experience. I have often thought of getting Botox, but was always a bit hesitant. Being the anxouse person that I am, I had all sorts of concerns regarding Botox. After spending almost a full hour with the nurse, who made me feel at ease, I became very comfortable with my decision to have Botox treatments. In fact, I will be returning in a few weeks for another procedure. I'm so excited to see my results!!! more

I looked into a lot of options and liked what the Key Institute had to offer best. I thought the price was in line with other comparable services. Doctor Key spent time explaining the procedure, the down time and what end results I could expect. He answered all my questions and concerns in a thorough, non rushed manner. The staff was caring, (one can feel pretty exposed and self-conscious in a less sensitive environment) considerate and FUN! I need to write this letter to tell everyone about Dr. Douglas Key at the Key Laser Institute.\r \r \r I have been a patient of his for about 25 years and treasure every appointment I have had with him. I first heard of him mentioned by several co-workers and then in an overheard conversation in a restaurant. He was spoken of both times as a genius. That is very high praise - one you don't hear often. At my first appointment I found out it was true. I had a genetic problem that made me unpleasant to look at. I lived with it from childhood until I found Dr. Key. He totally changed my life. I am now able to be in public and not wonder what people are thinking about me. I went in to Key Laser Institute yesterday for a consultation which was $75. but I had a $50. off coupon from online. The staff was very nice, organized and spent as much time with me as I needed. They had all had different types of laser by the Dr. done themselves so they had first hand experience.\r The Dr. certainly does have his selling agenda perfected but he answered all my questions profoundly. My feeling is that this man is an artist. Perhaps he has somewhat of an quirky personality and they definitely ""sell"" but then again it is a business and even my gastronologist ""sells"" me his services. \r I am going to go have the DOT facial therapy this next week and I am coming all the way from Eugene Oregon to have the DOT therapy performed. I know it won't be the all in all miracle laser to make me look like a teenager again but I do believe and hope that I am going to see a big change after a few weeks of the laser treatment. I will try to get back on here to let people know about my experience. Oh boy Wish me well.
