I am a very busy person and I work 50 miles away from my home. To schedule time off to take care of household chores is a challenge. The first time Dr. Soot was supposed to come clean my dryer vent, they canceled on that morning (5 minutes prior to appointment time) due to rain. The next week I made arrangements to be home again and they canceled due to "truck issues". I asked them to work with me because it was the second time they canceled. They never called me back. When I called them back they could only give me an appointment 2 months from now. I told them "no thanks, I'm tired of begging you to do business with me". The lady on the phone said, "OK" and hung up. Obviously, they don't need my business. Now that I read these reviews I realize it was a blessing in disguise. I'm so glad they didn't come rip me off! more

you need a building permit along with local inspections to have a liner installed in dut, uls, put , west. countys. chimney companys pressure there employees into big upsales. like liners , caps, repairs beyond what is actually needed. Dr. soot has no construction / remodeling experience . it's not far for the homeowner to be taken for in any way. Dr. Soot gives a bad name to sweeps and service techs trying to make an honest living. more

Called in response to an ad for $75 inspection. guy showed up and vacuumed out firebox and then told us is ws $285 because he "serviced" our chimeny. I feel scammed. They will not return our phone calls. more

Was wanting an estimate and called Dr Soot. Was told I would get a call back, but never got a return phone call. Glad they have enough business they don't need mine. more

Doctor Soot Chimney Service is very dissappointing 7/8/2009

Please do not use this service. The guys came by and gave me a quote they performed the work and then said that they hard to charge $300 more because of unforeseen additional work they had to do. I paid the $300 additional dollars and they still did not finish the job and now they want to charge more. They do not return calls and do not keep appointments. Stay away from these people unless you want aggravation. more

I moved into a 60s home in 2007 and had a fab new oil burner installed only to find that the chimney the flue was in was 60 percent blocked. Dr Soot came out, took photos, dropped ropes, showed me the problems BEFORE doing work, gave me an estimate, VERY EXPENSIVE but it was a big problem and he is the only person around here who could do it. Because it was an emergency situation (my kids were breathing in crap gases from the oil burner) he moved things around and came out expeditiously with his crew. I have a perfectly line chimney that passes code, inspection and everything else on earth and a SAFE HOME. The guys were clean, helpful, hard working and very brave as I have a very steep roof requiring a lot of terrifying scaffolding.Thanks Matt and crew more

Dr Soot 3/7/2008

I had Dr. Soot clean a pellet stove that was in a home I had purchased. They came, cleaned the stove and said the stove was fine. I lite the stove and had smoke throughout my house. They cleaned the stove, but FAILED to inspect the stove, which was rusted out. The heat exchangers were completely rusted out, which was the reason I ended up with smoke throughout the house. I had to pay another company to tell me the stove was no good. I expect that a company that can clean pellet stoves should also be trained regarding whether that stove is safely operational or not. I contacted Dr. Soot and told them, but received no comment. more

GREAT company. I purchased a new home in 2007 and I was interested in putting in a pellet stove into my existing fireplace. They came out and inspected my fireplace and chimney and told me it would be a perfect thing to get a pellet stove insert. After about 2 weeks and a great price. I have a "WONDERFUL" new stove to add romance and heat to my new home.THANK YOU Dr. Soot for making my house a home more

Nice people but poor service. 1/8/2008

We hired Dr. Soot for level 1-3 inspects to establish how best to make our 2 older WORKING fps better & safer. After $800 to inspect we hired them to carry out the plan they devised. After thousands more $$, we were told that the work had made one fp unusable. A mistake in measurement had been made during the inspection. No apology at all. Refused to make up for the mistake. Left debris on our lawn & accidentally took away our damper. We paid in full, but they won't return our calls or property. more
