What a cute little place and the food is amamzing! A great date place or place to eat with the girls! You at least need to try it! Pros: Everything Cons: can't think of on...

Worst

Djangos left much to be desired. Food was adequate and service was average. We would not go back. There are too many wonderful restaurants to waste one's time in an establishment ...

Who could ask for more?! 12/16/2003

One of the finest culinary experiences to be had in Philadelphia. Incredible food, great waitstaff, cozy & romantic, and BYOB! Who could ask for more? I have been to restaurants all over this city and have not found more than 2 or 3 other places that can match the Django experience. PS-make sure some body at your table orders the cheese plate! That alone is worth the trip. Pros: food, romantic, BYOB Cons: parking, can be too noisey more

Don't pass it up 11/1/2003

Great restraunt. My gf and I went for our anniversary and were extremely pleased. My dishes were great (crepes then venison in chocolate-chile sauce), but not quite top-of-the-line. My gf's dishes, though, were both unbelievably good (bow-tie pasta with lobster then trout on a frittata). Only criticism I would make is that they need to turn down the lights a bit, its very bright for a romantic french-country restaurant. Also, those who expect to get a mountain of food when they go out will be disappointed, but I like small portions. Pros: Great, rich food, Small portions, Unbeatable price Cons: Too bright, res. hard to get more

Best restaurant in Philly! 9/28/2003

Django has such a unique offering of dishes, that are unsurpassed. At othe restaurants, you have to search for the one or two dishes that are truly different. At Django, everything has a slight twist and is mouthwateringly good. We were sat promptly at 5:30, per our reservation a month in advance. The squab terrine was PHENOMENAL, as was my scallops entree (always is, even though the menu changes monthly). The cheese plate is so well done, complete with honey, hazelnuts, figs, and crisp apple slices. Pros: Incredible variety Cons: A bit noisy more

Can't say enough! 9/15/2003

Django's is one of the BEST restaurants I have ever tried. I was there on a Friday evening with my husband. We were seated immediately (we had a reservation), and were given the most delicious bread. It was the Portuguese sweet bread. Excellent! and there is just so much to choose from the menu. My husband got the duck breast, while I chose the trout. They were both SOOOO delicious, and the service was excellent. I would revisit this restaurant OVEr and Over again! What a gem in Philadelphia. LOVE IT! Pros: Great food, Good service, Reasonable price Cons: hard to get a reserv more

Better than the Promised! 8/11/2003

Absolutely wonderful! My husband and I went for our 1st anniversary and we could not have been more pleased with our choice. Wonderful menu, great staff, loved the 'smallness' of the dining room. Although it didn't bother us, it can get a little noisy in there. Defintely worth it for the food though. Cheese plate is a must for cheese lovers! Pros: Food, Price, Service Cons: Little bit noisy, Parking a bit rough more

They do it right 6/9/2003

Django has the best service in the city. If you make a reservation for 930pm you are seated at 930pm. The staff knows you are not there to chat with them but to enjoy your meal with your date, and are simple, to the point and do an overall excellent job. The food has so much taste to it because they use only fresh ingredients that always blow me away. It's never too spicy or salty and it's the first place I've ever eaten where I didn't even think of needing salt or pepper. I've been in the so-called best restaurants in Philly and New York and Django does a super job in food and service. more

As good as friends said! 5/11/2003

Low key, elegant, casual bistro did not disappoint us with any course. We love that we can bring our own wine and appreciate the rich, beautiful portions that are normal, not ridiculously huge. This is how the French eat so well and yet don't have the health and obesity problems plaguing Americans. We called a month ahead for reservations and could only get 5:30 or 9:30, so don't delay if you want to go. Local organic produce is used, another plus, and I had no problem eating well as a vegetarian. Pros: BYOB, local, organic Cons: Plan well ahead! more

felt like I was in France 5/1/2003

What a delightful restaurant!! Food was excellent and inventive! I must echo what many others have said - do not miss the cheese plate at the end - it was the highlight of the meal!! I don't have anything negative to say and look forward to coming to Django again. Pros: great food, fresh ingredients, neat atmosphere Cons: reservations a must more

can't wait to dine here again 4/14/2003

the food was wonderful and creative. service was friendly and knowledgale. and byob was another plus. more

not quite... 1/30/2003

nice idea, but it seems like they're trying too hard to be different. depending on your tastes, the menu is either interesting or bizzarre. i doubt we'd go back here soon with so many great little spots in the city. more

Batting .500 1/23/2003

One of my best meals I had was at Django, but oddly enough, I tried it again about 2 months later, and experienced one of the worst meals I ever had at a restaurant. It may have been an off night in the kitchen the second time, since it is so unusual that food prepared so well the first time could be so bad the next. I guess I will give them another try, but that second bad experience did scare me off a bit... The staff are pleasant and extremely knowledgeable on the menu items. The restaurant is small and and chairs and tables are mismatched in a charming, down-to-earth sort of way. It is obvious that the owners place more emphasis on the food. I would have rated the food higher, but that second experience left a bad taste in my mouth (both figuratively and literally!) Pros: Good Food, Service, Value Cons: Bad Food, Small, Noisy more

must go 1/16/2003

Loved the unique menu. enjoyed my dish very much. server was good. Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: little crowded more

A must try!! 12/28/2002

Great food!! What an innovative menu. My husband and I have eaten here on several occasions and are always overly impressed with the food, service and ambience. more

Django is top BYO 12/19/2002

hands down. While I can understand that Dmitri's and Chloe's got the sentimental vote, for those who have been to all three, Django deserves the top spot, even though for a byo it's pricey. more

Lovingly prepared french food with flair 12/19/2002

Having worked as a waiter & maitre d' for Jean Pierre Tardy, former executive chef & Bucks County chef/restauranteur, I would compare this young American couple's Django creations to the best that any European chefs can muster. Dishes were beautifully seasoned, cooked to perfection and full of creativity. The menu is well-balanced with plenty of variety & nothing is too heavy or gastronomically clumsy. Local ingredients a la slow food movements is not only good for your palate, but good for the environment, local growers and your wallet surprisingly!! Were I living closer to Philly, I would go even more often w/o reservation!! Bon appetit et a votre sante!! Amaury de Chaumont-Quitry, State College, PA Pros: excellent french food, very nice & intimate, very intelligent serv Cons: a little noisy more

Best of Philly Period! 11/19/2002

Our 20th wedding anniversary was our first of soon to be many visits. A perfect match. Best snails anywhere and what a presentation!!! It was the best meal we have tasted anywhere in Philly and at any price. A casual setting that takes bistro style fare to a level of haute cuisine. A 10!!! Thanks for making our evening perfect. Dominick and JoAnne Carella more

The Town's Best BYOB! 11/9/2002

Interesting menu, very well done. It's not Le Bec Fin, but I thought the entres were tastier than what was done in what's often thought of as Philly's premier restaurant. Of course, you're not served by a platoon of waiters in, and all the utensils are readily identifiable. But the value is impressive. The one downside is that it's small and nearly impossible to get a reservation for. If you do, it's worth the effort! Pros: Great Food Cons: Plan well ahead! more

A rare mineral in the rough 10/19/2002

Only diamonds are forever but Djangos made me warm and fuzzy inside even if I am not a jewelry addict. Service: 10+. Being from out of town I was in a rush to get there on time and didn't get the wine. The waitresses (yes, plural) offered me to pour some of theirs and not just one glass but many pour they did. I got my water refilled and plates cleared just as promptly. Food: excellent. In a class of restaurant Djangos belongs to (class = price range + sophistication of cuisine) they're at the top of their game. Do get goat cheese gnocchi (more like soup than traditional gnocchi) for an appetizer and a cheese plate for dessert. The other reviews complaining about service leave me puzzled -- did I go to a different restaurant? The waitresses all seemed genuinely nice and they knew the menu. more

Try the cheese plate 10/2/2002

The chicken crepe appetizer is, flat out, the best appetizer I have ever had anywhere. The raspberry nougatine dessert is certainly in the top 3 desserts I've ever had. My entree (trout & polenta) is somewhere in the top 20 also. This is after some 40 years of serious dining. more

bring your own food too 9/30/2002

Djangos left much to be desired. Food was adequate and service was average. We would not go back. There are too many wonderful restaurants to waste one's time in an establishment that rushes its diners and does not allow for time inbetween each course. The best part of the meal was the cheese tray. more
