Best

Dixie's has a fun, authentic atmosphere and all their soul/cajun food is great. Check out their Sunday bruch--bloody marys, jambalaya, sweet potato pancakes...can't go wrong! ...

Worst

To its credit, Dixie's is not too noisy and its bar is woodsy. The bar standards we ordered were quite tasty (wings, nachos, gumbo). Its ""famous jerky,"" believe it or not, is ac...

Will Not Return--Tasteless and NOT Worth the Money! 11/6/2011

My family and I unfortunately spent almost $100 at this ""soul, southern restaurant!"" Although the ambiance was nice and the staff were pleasant, the food was terrible! My family has southern roots so I know what southern food should taste like--and southern food should taste good. Dixie's food was honestly quite painful to eat! The soul fries were cold, the pork po'boy was dry, the pot roast on potatoes was flavorless and inedible, and the macaroni and cheese was watery and tasteless--salt and pepper will not help this food! Also, McDonald's Sweet Tea tastes better than their southern sweet tea--we should have just gone to McDdonald's for dinner--it would have been tastier and MUCH cheaper! In this economy, we don't have money to waste on bad food, but complaining to the staff would not have helped the situation--what that restaurant needs is some real chefs in the kitchen who know how to cook--they should hire my family for starters! If you want real southern food, do NOT choose this place! Avoid! more

First time...Great food! 7/23/2010

Great atmosphere, patio was amazing too. Great waitress and a nice deal on tap beers even though we missed happy hour. St. Louis style ribs were amazing...I would go back just for the ribs...didn't think the biscuits were all that special...but all in all...a great place for a date or drinks on the patio...they were also setting up for Salsa Friday nights when we left...now that sounds fun! Pros: Location, unique food for this area Cons: prices a bit high more

Mediocre Dining Experience 10/18/2009

I hadn?t been to Dixie?s in over 3 years, and was disappointed with the dining experience. The evening started out great with a nice bottle of wine, but went downhill when from there. The first 3 wine selections we made from the menu were no longer being served at Dixie?s, and we had to settle with our fourth choice. We were also told that our first two selections were full price, until we were told that the wine was no longer served. The dinner was disappointing, especially the mac-n-cheese which was bland. We had the ribs and Bleu Grass Chicken Breast and the ribs were served cold. The side dishes of green beans and corn on the cob were ok. Cons: Bland Food, Incomplete Menus more

Great date restaurant. 7/27/2009

Dixie's has a fun, authentic atmosphere and all their soul/cajun food is great. Check out their Sunday bruch--bloody marys, jambalaya, sweet potato pancakes...can't go wrong! Pros: delicous food, great location more

Great Customer Service, Food, Atmosphere 8/20/2008

I absolutely love Dixie's On Grand. I just got done reading the previous experience of these past customers but I had a great experience. I ENCOURAGE everyone to visit Dixie's on Grand and not let any of these comments discourage you. They have the best service by a brunette, short girl named Nikki. hehehe!!! The servers are great !!! The fried green tomatoes are excellent!!! Who has fried green tomatoes at any restaurant in town???? The drinks are spectacular!!! Happy hour is a must!! 3-6 everyday!!! Holy cow!!! Love the karaoke on Thursday nights and I love to dance so the Salsa night on Fridays is a plus!!! Just give it it a try and if its not your style, its not your style but I LOVE IT and the funky environment is cool!!! So maybe I'll see ya at the bar!!! Pros: Great Service!!! and a great NEW PATIO!!!!!! Cons: What there is a bad thing about Dixie's!!!!??? Maybe the parking but they do have Valet more

very mediocre food, good service, not good for kids 8/16/2008

I ate lunch here with three kids today, and it was a very bad experience. We were seated in the smoking area without being told there was smoking on the patio; this created quite a scene with a problem customer when I asked to be moved inside after another customer indicated she was going to smoke at the table next to us. Though there was a kid's menu, all three kids kids did not like the buttered noodles; my crab cakes were greasy and bland other than the flash of jalapeno, and my cole slaw seemed several days old by its color, texture, and appearance. The service was very good, and the management was concerned after my run in with the rude customer, but I would not go back here even for an adult evening: for this price, you can get excellent food at places like Heartland's wine bar. This seems to be a suburban restaurant in the city. more

BEST VEGETARIAN BURGER 6/12/2008

Not many vegetarian options but the veggie burger is spicy and fall apart tender. The loaded fries are wonderful. Great southern tastes. Parking lot with valet. Interesting little bar with a train that circulates it. Staff is friendly and fast. Can get crowded, good idea to make reservations on the weekend. Pros: Best veggie burger in town, nice bar, good for large groups Cons: Make reservations, expensive more

Some great food, some horrible food.... NOT CONSISTENT 3/4/2008

We ate there on a slow weeknight. We had incredible crab cakes with jalepeno tarter sauce to start. My entree was awful. I ordered ribs that were as tough as leather. It was the first time in my life I have ever sent anything back to the kitchen. The service and the environment were great and I would maybe give it another chance. The menu had many appealing items. more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE BRUNCH 1/25/2008

Went to Dixie's for a girls brunch Sunday and it was without a doubt the absolute WORST brunch I have ever had in my life. The food was was not fresh, cold, boring. For the price, $25.00 per person, we were expecting a larger ""spread"". Total waste of time and money. more

Worst service in St Paul 11/19/2007

We have gone there about five times in the past two years, all of them we have experienced the worst service in St Paul. They don't seem to believe in servers/wait staff (they are called differently depending on the place) who bring the food to the table so you get it hot and timely. They have one waiter for the table who takes care of it all, which means drinks are left empty, food is cold (which just happened on Saturday 11/10/07 and I had to have them return it to heat it up.) Pros: Food and wine selection Cons: Worst Service more

great happy hour 10/28/2007

nice room o.k. service(we were there at shift change) good food. good bar area great appitizers, nice cold beer Pros: can't beat happy hour prices Cons: Service was a little slow more

Friendly staff, beautiful restaurant, and delicious food creations 6/28/2007

After going back to the restuarant, it looks completely different. the staff was super friendly and made sure i got everything i could've wanted. The decor is warm and welcoming and has lots of dirfferent seating options around the restuarant. I've also had lots of fun there at night lately. the karaoke on thursday nite is my favorite. About the food, some of the dishes are quite large, but the flavor is unlike anywhere else. The BBQ chicken i had was the best i've ever had! You gotta try this place if you haven't already. I really felt at home there. i don't understand what kind of person gave them a bad rating, the staff completely took care of me! more

COLD FOOD 12/11/2006

WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE RESTAURANT ON DECEMBER 9. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD. WE BOTH HAD THE BOURBON CHICKEN , THE FOOD WAS COLD UPON ARRIVAL. WHEN ASKING A WAITRESS TO HAVE SOMEONE WARM THE FOOD BACK UP, SHE SAID SHE WOULD BE RIGHT WITH US, HOWEVER SHE NEVER CAME BACK UNITL WE RECIEVED OUR BILL. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE FOR A DINING EXPERIENCE!!!! Pros: NICE AMBIENCE Cons: COLD FOOD more

the biscuits 11/19/2006

the biscuits are delicious. but, whatever you do, don't eat them. word on the street is, each one has over 1000 calories. oy. the food there isn't my favorite but they hire really, nice, cute servers. that should count for something, right? Pros: servers Cons: health more

Don't bother! 8/10/2006

We decide to stop back, after 5 years. The smell of sour bar rags on arrival still exists. We were seated outside, a TIGHT table for 2. Requested a different table. Ordered apps. Is it routine to bring the food first and then the silverware? Chix quesadilla with sour fermenting pineapple salsa. Returned it for fermenting reg salsa. Also ordered coconut chix w/ grey puopon mustard??? Not plum sauce?? They were OK. Ordered gumbo. Husband liked it but by that time, I decided it was Alpo like. We had to ask to have the quesadilla w/ twice bad salsa removed from the bill. Requested to talk to the manager who agreed the salsa was old. We also suggested the seating was way too tight. Let's just say we WILL NOT be back. Pros: The name "Dixies" has a nice ring. Cons: TIGHT TIGHT SEATING, bad food, train the servers more

Stuff'em in anywhere you can 5/16/2006

Went to Dixie's for Mothe's day brunch, boy was it a zoo!! Tables smashed against eachother like they were hurting for money. The table we were seated at was tight but bearable, unlike the table next to ours where 3 sets of people were sat and then left due to the tightness of the tables. The food was average at best, for brunch I was expecting a huge spread but they only had a about 9 items plus a mediocre dessert set up. Service was sporadic and slow. We ordered omelets from the server and they didn't arrive until we were ready to plunge into deserts. And for $25 a person, definitely NOT worth it. Pros: Good french toast Cons: Packed, Service, Food more

Always pleased. 2/6/2006

Every year we go to Dixie's for our Annaversery and have never been disapointed. Pork tenderloin meal was awesome it melted in your mouth did not even need a knife to cut it was so tender. The blackend cat fish was out of this world!!!, also just melted in your mouth. The steak is very tender and juicy. the smoked bbq chicken was great. and home style skin on mashed potatoe are very good. we whent for a party and the catering was great and the selection of food that was set out was plenty and was very good. And most of all my compliments go out the best chef, my hats off to Steve A. Pros: great food, fun atmostphere, friendly servers Cons: small parking lot more

Bad experience 12/10/2005

Not a friendly reception. Informed they were out of most of there wines including the feature wine of the month. Selected a wine with a vintage year of 2000. Got served a 2004. The manager said that the $28.00 price was the same for either year and said ""At our level(meaning the rest level?), the year doesn't make that much difference"" and walked away. We had the BBQ sampler. The ribs and chicken got away from the cook, They were burnt black. Food was not fresh. There are so many great restaurants, especially on Grand. This was not one that night. Not interested in going back. Pros: ambient lighting, valet parking Cons: food quality, friendliness, wine list more

Wouldn't Return by Choice 4/27/2005

First of all when we got there we only had three people and we waited about five minutes for anybody to even approach us. They were not that busy at all either. We ened up sittin gin the corner of the place and again waited a good 15-20 min for our server to come and greet us/ take drink orders. The food wasn't half bad once it got there but over all this place is not somewhere you would want to go for a warm welcome or if you are in a hurry. more
