Kind of hard to understand why a new establishment would take peoples money for Groupon and then be booked so you can use what you paid for!!!

Good Food, Typical Denver Servic 6/12/2010

Anniversary dinner last night at Deluxe. The food and drinks were outstanding--I had the roasted free range chicken and a Gimi-Hendricks (Hendricks, elderflower liqueur, club soda, lime) and my husband had the knife & fork lamb burger and the strawberry mojito.) When we arrived at 7, the dining room was very quiet and service was a bit more attentive. Once it got busy, there were only two servers for the room and our water glasses sat empty, finished plates sat for ages, and we were only very briefly offered dessert and never was an offer of coffee or an after-dinner drink mentioned. Though no one was waiting for a table at 9pm, suddenly our server seemed to be in a rush to move us along. The oddest bit was when a drunk man wandered in off the street--that part isn't odd as we're on South Broadway and it happens. But the staff didn't do anything about him--and they knew he was there. He imposed himself on a table near us and the man at that table actually escorted him out. My husband commented to our waiter that there was a problem and he seemed mostly indifferent to it, only going over to help the customer escort the man out after being told he probably should. A second server was overheard saying to the customer later, ""I was coming over to help"" when actually he walked past, completely indifferent, twice. Any bar or restaurant along Broadway should be much more attentive to this sort of thing--a customer shouldn't have to be escorting unwanted people out of the restaurant because the staff can't be bothered. We'll probably go back and try it again. It's nice to have an upscale restaurant in our neighborhood, but with so many good restaurants in Denver I'm not sure how patient I'll be with mediocre service. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: Service more

Wonderful cozy atmosphere 8/28/2008

We really enjoyed our evening at Deluxe. You feel like you are in a fine dining restaurant without the attitude. The food was divine and the service was great. I would recommend it. Pros: Great food and service Cons: Very small dining room more

definatly deluxe 7/27/2008

I went on a blind date to Deluxe being very nervous. As I met my date in front for our 7:00 reservation, they did not have a table ready for us yet. The hostess said we need to reset a table for you and it should be about 15 minutes, but feel free to go to our new bar Delight next door for a drink. We went for a drink, and it was nice for an ice breaker. I had their special watermellon mojito, it was so refreshing for the Summer, and it calmed the nerves for the guy I met. Within the15 minutes our table was not ready. I was sort of annoyed, but they said they could sit us as the chefs counter, so we went. Our server very polite and friendly, I believe he said his name was tracy. The fried oysters and dumplings were amazing to start. He ordered the paella and I had the trout special, we both kind of shared. Both were so good. It was a great blind date spot, because we were right in the kitchen and could interact with the chef for questions. The chef was very funny but don't remember his name. He helped us get through those awkward silences, and it was a great conversation starter to watch them all cook. The two of us will definatly be back. Pros: the staff Cons: waiting for a table more

Not so ""Deluxe"" of an experience 6/24/2008

Disclaimer: Having worked in many restaurants as both a chef and a server, I have a high standard for service and food quality in my dining experience. Pros: atmosphere Cons: food, service more

Could be more ""Deluxe"" 3/23/2008

I recently visited this below-the-radar restaurant after a couple of dazzling reviews from acquaintances. My girlfriend and I arrived at 6:30 on a Thursday to an almost empty room. By itself, the space fit its Broadway location with a funky, cozy decor that slowly won me over. Our table was a little awkward as we played a game trying to figure out if we were the fish in the fishbowl or if the people walking in the door vis-a-vis a circular window to the side of table were. We also felt awkward waiting 20 minutes for our server. As my date was patiently waiting to hear the specials and solicit recommendations, I had plenty of time to pick a couple of bottles of wine that would compliment whichever path we chose. The prices were better than average, but the two lists had a big price gap. The dining menu was short, but diverse. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. The fried oyster shooters were zesty, crunchy and delicious, but the steak tartar was not as impressive. It was presented in a bowl, obviously loaded into a ring mold and was a touch grey on the exterior due to oxidation, not appetizing. Entrees included an overly charred pork chop, with a perfect medium rare center paired fabulously with whipped yams, cider, bacon, and brussel sprouts. The filet with grainy mashed potatoes, uninspired asparagus and cherry tomatoes, although grilled perfectly, would have been a completely forgettable if not for the wonderfully blended gorganzola butter on top. We ordered a lemon white chocolate cheesecake for dessert and were very pleased with its nicely balanced flavors and firm texture. Service miscues included the initial wait, empty water glasses for most of our visit, and an offered refill on coffee that was never delivered. more

delightful dining experience 3/25/2007

heard about this place from a coworker, and she wasn't kidding...deluxe was fabulous! we went last minute, so we didn't have reservations. but since we arrived at 5:30, we were seated promptly. the restaurant is tiny, and filled up fast. the ambience is very sophisticated but not at all stuffy. they serve this nice little flatbread to start. we ordered the halibut ceviche which was awesome. my husband got the bacon wrapped filet mignon, which was topped with hollandaise. we've never seen filet served that way but it was fantastic! i had the deluxe paella, which was also fantastic. for dessert we shared this english toffee pudding...think light, moist toffee cake drowned in hot caramel and topped with pecans...sooooo good! there were so many great items on the menu, it was hard to choose. we might have to go back soon! Pros: great ambience, delicious food, friendly staff Cons: service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry. more

You will remember what good food is supposed to taste like! 12/3/2006

Not only is the food to die for, but the owner and his staff go so beyond the expected to ensure your satisfaction, that it's an outrageous experience! Let's face it ,service has become a thing of the past. Very few companies focus on extraordinary service in our price driven society, where almost everything is a commodity. I cannot begin to count the amount of trendy clubs, hotels, and restaurants, with insane budgets on decor and real estate location, without a thought for having a true passion for the product they deliver and the fashion in which it is served. Deluxe is an exception to the norm. Pros: Everything is Fabulous! Cons: Can be very busy! more

Funky and elegant 11/20/2006

Not a giant menu but has something for all. If you don't like what you see, please leave quickly because there's a line behind you that does. Have a seat, watch the owner either entertaining the tables or more likely, overseeing tonight's specials. The man is worth watching in either of his characters. Our table had steak, plank salmon, jambalaya among other items. We all drooled over each other's entrees, until we sunk our teeth into our own. Then it was an illicit love affair between our taste buds and our choice of dinner partners (you had me at ""jambalaya""). The wine list is small, eclectic and very good. The choices the wine buyer made, play well with others. Enjoy! Pros: Always something new to try Cons: Few tables more

Dinner with the hostess 11/15/2006

I recently took my fiance here for date night. The entire meal was great. She had the pumpkin ravioli and I had the swordfish, both were delicious. The nice pinot grigio we had with our meal came at a decent price. Though, I think the best part was the dessert, chocolate fudge cover in caramel and nuts. The place is pretty small and therefore quite noisy. We also were sat right next to the door, which usually I wouldn?t mind, but it was right next to the hostess stand so for half the dinner I had someone?s rear in my face. The service also left to be desired. I know it is a little fancier than some places, but I would still like to order my entree before the waiter comes to take clear the appetizer dishes. Overall it was a good experience, yet it could have been better. more

small gem on Broadway 9/17/2005

This restaurant is located on Broadway so parking is not easy. And the restaurant is so small that there is not really a place to wait for your table...so definitely make reservations and do not show up early to have a drink....there isn't really a bar. With all of that being said....the food is just divine!!! And I could not believe the how inexpensive our meal was!! My husband and I had cocktails, shared an appetizer (the oyster shooters - not to be missed), each had a salad, an entree (highly recommend the sword fish), and split a desert (the ice cream sandwich is to die for!) ... the bill came to a whopping $72!!! Beat that in Denver! I would definitely recommend exploring this restaurant before the word gets out:) Pros: Inexpensive, service Cons: parking more

A year later... and it is even better! 8/22/2005

I remember it being good but this recent visit was incredible. The atmosphere is cozy and is perfect for a fall night. Everything we had was amazing! Don't miss the potato chips with truffle oil and blue cheese or the english toffee pudding! Pros: Fantastic food, Romantic atmosphere Cons: Tight seating more

Great!!!! 6/12/2005

Finally, a restaurant with an inventive menu, good prices and great atmosphere!!! And I didn't even mention the food... I've eaten here a dozen times and not one bad meal! more

De-licious 5/2/2005

Deluxe is great in every way. The food is creative and boldly flavorful. The atmosphere is cozy and hip (love the leopard-print carpet)! The crowd is interesting but not there ""to be seen"". I ordered swordfish which was served on a bed of a hominy and tomatoes and maybe some jalepenos or serranos (not sure). The combination of flavors was right-on. My husband's lamb was yummy and I kept stealing bites of his potatoes when he wasn't looking. The wine list is limited but they are all very moderatelhy priced which is nice these days. I would suggest making a reservation, for sure, because there's really no place to wait for your table. The bar is actually a counter overlooking the small kitchen (cool) but it's not a place to have a cocktail. People are eating there! Cant' wait to go back. Good ""date night"" place. Pros: food, atmosphere, value more

YUM 3/20/2005

What a good experience. The food was good, the people were friendly, the waiter picked out a great wine and the place is small and cozy. I can not wait to go back! Just what South Broadway needed. Pros: food, staff, atmospere more

Fabulous in multiple ways 2/28/2005

Everything was great about this place from the reccommended wine to the pumpkin ravioli. the menu changes regularly, and the pastas are never a bad way to go. Eat there. Pros: food, very reasonable, charming more

De-luxe is De-lish! 2/5/2005

Eclectic fare is the specialty at this tiny, boisterous eatery. Our party sampled three small plates to begin our meal. The flash fried rock shrimp were good, but nothing out of the ordinary, the Asian spiced baby backs were tasty & fall-off-the-bone tender, and the evening's flatbread special (caramelized onions and mushrooms) was very good. For our entrees we sampled the Thai curry shrimp dish (good, but somewhat standard), the paella had the right amount of saffron, but a little too much salt and the veal Bolognese served over homemade pasta ribbons (one of the best I've had in years). The affordable wine list is limited but adequate. For dessert we tried the ""ice cream sandwich"" (homemade vanilla ice cream between two pieces of flourless chocolate torte), which was decadent. The dining room was bustling but the service was efficient. We were pleasantly surprised by our final bill. Pros: Affordable, Fresh Ingredients Cons: Parking, Very Noisy more

Deluxe is a Delight 12/22/2004

Deluxe is a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is cozy and feels like your at home with a bunch of friends. The staff was knowlegable and the food terrific. I had the New York Strip with Garlic Fries (tasty) and my wife had the Portabella Mushroom plate. We ordered the mini crab cakes and I am still thinking about how delicious they were, not afraid to say the best in town. The best review I can give this place is recommending it to my friends and of course going back there myself. I would make reservations as once the place gets full it is full and there is not a great place to wait for a table. However, if you have to wait, walk around outside because the wait is worth it. Pros: Great Food, Economical, Atmosphere more

waiters should be servers 11/17/2004

got there@ 5:30...1/3 full. 15 minutes after sitting down we got a cocktail. we order, waitron comes back 2x to ask how i wanted my filet. then it arrived and placed in front of my wife. typical problem in denver restaurants, the waitrons don't use pen and paper to take down orders....how hard is it on a 2-top? when we left the placed was packed, majority of tables (8 of 10) were waiting for food....need i say more. food was good and hot which is also a surprise, our recent forays into ""haute cuisine"" of denver have come up with the food warm at best. why? this place needs help, maybe a busser or two, and profeesional wait staff. we felt sorry for the people waiting @ 7:15 for a table...were they early for brunch? Pros: hot food Cons: , waiter, staffing more
