...because what I experienced today at the Lynnwood DB made me not want to go back for my actual dress.
First of all, the gal at the front greeted us nicely, and asked how she could help us (I was with a girlfriend to help me look). I told her I was getting married soon, and would like to just look around for ideas. She said go ahead, so my friend and I started browsing.
The store is dingy, and shabby. It really didn't get me excited for the experience. Another negative aspect, for me at least, were that all the plus-size gowns were shoved next to the clearance dresses in the back of the store. Now, look here- fat girls want to feel special, too!
The plus-size selection was extremely limited, with most styles only having the smaller-end or the largest sizes which makes it hard if you want to gauge what your size would look like. During the 45 minutes we spent looking at the bridal gowns, not one single person said a word to us, even though several salespeople walked by (for reference, I visited the shop on a Tuesday at 1:30 pm- not exactly prime shopping time).
Giving up on the dismal selection of plus-size dresses, my friend and I went to check out the bridesmaid's dresses (it's a casual wedding, so the right color bridesmaid dress may work, too). Some pretty designs, and I picked up about 6 of them to try on. I walked around with those dresses and PAST THE FRONT COUNTER for about 30 minutes, and not one person offered a room, or help, or suggestions. Finally, I walked up to the gal who greeted us and asked to try those dresses on. She looked at me and said, ""I don't know- you don't have an appointment, right?""
BLEW MY MIND. These were party dresses, not bridal gowns. Since when does one need an appointment to try on non-formal dresses?? She made a show about asking her manager if she could ""find a room for us,"" then led us back to a dingy, beat-up dressing room where I was never asked once if they could get another size, color, etc. Several of the dresses were cheaply made and had ripped seams or zippers. The boning in the bodices of several were very awkwardly placed.
I was so let-down; It was as if they didn't want my business... and guess what? They did *not* get my business, and I will not be going back (even though I did manage to find some dresses that were pretty).
Very discouraging first-stop for an excited, new bride-to-be. I expected so much more, but I guess I'll just blame that on seeing how they treat customers at true bridal boutiques :)
