Very bad experience 1/5/2015

First of all before I went there I called in to check the prices . I was told that a hair cut was between $40-60$ . When I got to pay I almost choked when they told me its 110$ ( for a stupid hair cut that took one hour ... It was done by the owner, David)... After a few months I went back for root rouchup...the lady finished my hair in 5 minutes. When I got home and saw all the grey hair on the sides I started crying... I payed 65$ for 5 minutes of touch up... Plus the tips! I never went back there again!!!! Oh and by the way the owner is very rude !!!! He thinks he is above everyone and while he was cutting my hair he was telling me about all his achievements! I Just couldn't wait to get out of there more

Ask for Phil!! 7/23/2013

We go there to Phil. He does a wonderful job with my 3 year old's thick hair. We've been butchered with other stylists and in other salons, but Phil gives him a beautiful, quality haircut every time. He's the perfect amount of nice and no nonsense, so the job gets done without fussing. Love him. Ask for Phil!!! more

never again 8/2/2012

I had a gift certificate so I figured let my try the salon out so I went there on my birthday to get my hair done for dinner showed the stylist the hair style I wanted and when it was done it looked nothing like the picture I showed her, not even close. Then when I went to pay no one told me I could not use a credit card before I got there knowing it was my first time very.embarrassing. The atmosphere in this salon was like a boarding house, no personality at all. Would not go back ever... more

Awful! 9/28/2011

I used a groupon and thought I would try it out since it got OK reviews. Please trust me when I tell you it was the worst experience in a salon I have ever had. I was there for 4 hours sitting in a hot, dirty, dark salon. The colorist was awful, her hands were shaking the entire time and it took her 2.5 hours to do highlights and foils. Then there was a fight between stylists and the women who was supposed to cut my hair left. The owner who is the most obnoxious, rude and arrogant man alive cut my hair. The entire time he scolded me about the condition and cut of my hair. He was so unprofessional it was awful. He actually asked me if I cut my own hair and then proceed to cut 4 inches off my hair without asking. He basically did what he wanted because in his words he is a "New York stylist". Then the women blowing my hair out was doing an awful job. I ended up leaving with a half wet head and handing them my groupon and running out (yes- running). Please do not waste your time or money there. I ended up having to go somewhere else and getting the highlights fixed. There are far better and more professional places out there. more

David's chair of horror 9/2/2011

Bad: I sat in David Alan's chair for a consultation only! His personality was atrocious. My hair was in a catastrophic state breaking off in chunks. While I had my head turned speaking with his colorist, he just started cutting at my hair! Dry cutting! Jagged and botched. I put my hair up in a clip and left. Later that evening I got home to find he cut over 3 inches off of my length! I was moritified. Cried till 3:30 am. I went to him for help and got totally screwed over.. Improvements: The only improvement to this place would be the absence of its owner. He is a disgrace to the hair styling community. What professional, wannabe high line hair salon does this kind of work? I never even agreed to a real hair cut where my hair would be washed and cut wet and he thinks it is a good idea to just start hacking away at my hair...DRY??? What is wrong with this man? How can he call himself a hairdresser? He's a joke.. Other: Beware and be afraid...that is all I can say to anyone considering going near David and his chair of horrors.. more

Twice the price for half the quality 7/1/2011

1. Compared to other similar places, the salon charges twice the price for half the quality: at least my manicurist did a very lousy job. Total waste of money and time! 2. Something wrong with address: Mapquest indicates a different location for 6 Spring Valley Rd., Paramus. more

Never had a positive experience here 5/6/2011

Needs to be cleaned. Unprofessional, rude owner. I was there to get a manicure once and the manicurist did not stop yapping to me about her children the entire time...even though my lack of responses should have indicated I was there to relax and not chat about her life. And then at one point she walked over to a birthday cake that was sitting on the table and took a swipe of it with her fingers and licked it off. Seriously? You touch people's hands all day, lady! I told the owner, David Alan on my way out, about that and some other things and he said with a snarky tone, "but did you manicure turn out nice?" Not an ounce of care about the quality of my experience. People are writing positive reviews saying that those who have written negative reviews are jealous competitors, but I have to disagree. I went to this salon a number of times to use up a fairly large giftcard...and everytime I would joke with myself about what kind of bad customer service I would receive that time....starting with receptionist to make my appointment. Read the reviews before you buy a Groupon or visit this place. more

Saved my hair 4/22/2011

I had my hair cut and conditioned at David Alan Salon and it looks amazing! My hair had been over processed at by a big name salon and I thought I it was a lost cause. The owner spent a ton of time talking to me about my options and cut. David did the cut himself and I love it. David is very funny and is full of interesting stories about the business and many other topics. They have awesome products available too. more

Dirty and Unprofssional 4/14/2011

I only went there because my friend recommended them and gave me a 35$ off coupon. Got a cut and hightlights. David did the cut and talked my ear off the whole time, but did a good job. The rest went from bad to worse. The colorist did a bad job with my highlights, they were uneven looking. It was so dark in the place we (yes even the staff complained it was too dark in there) had to go outside to see what my hair looked like. I had to go back TWICE to get the highlights fixed because the woman did such a lazy job. The woman who washed my hair also did the blow dry, and she was so unskilled and SLOW it took 45 minutes to blow dry my shoulder length hair. I was so frustrated at this point I wanted to scream. Lastly the whole place is gross, dirty and unhygienic. Every surface covered in grime, I didn't see one brush in sterile solution. When David dropped the brush he was using on the floor he just picked it right back up and kept using it, which is a major health code violation. I regret going and am never going back. I will stick with my usual salon in ridgewood from now on. more

Shame on you,.,. Ive known david for about 25 yrs. just found out he has own shop, ABOUT time..you can tell bad reviews are from competitor or LACK of.. so sad maybe this is why business's dont make it in downtown.. grow UP people... David your talents are well known, all the best.. J more

David Alan is the rudest person!! 11/7/2009

I went there with a gift certificate and David Alan totally humiliated me telling me it expired (even though there was no expiration date) The haircut and highlights were okay but NOT worth the price! This salon is awful and I know many people who feel the same! more
