Good: My stylist is friendly, and funny. She can be a little pushy at times with soliciting products and other services but hey thats her business. The salon itself is large, cold, and modern. Once you get past that it is a nice place. They have an excellent wig selection if you can afford that kind of luxury.. Bad: The owner is a bit rough around the edges however, if you talk to him he can be very funny and he is very educated about the business! I dont necessarily think all of the employees are NY trained, but they seem to know enough about the industry to create satisfied customers.. Improvements: I would like to see more sincerity in the employees and owner. Definately not a cozy homey feeling, but it depends on what you are looking for in a salon. They have alot of services to offer and the upscale atmosphere can use a little warming up.. more

The salon is very spacious and immaculately clean. Not only can you get your hair done there, but you can also get manicures, pedicures, massages, facials, and more! The staff is very warm and friendly. I highly recommend the hair stylist Jennifer. She is a fabulous colorist and gives a great haircut and style that suits you! You will not be disappointed. Francesco is the best colorist - a master colorist! - and stylist I've ever known. His work is oustanding even stupendous! The salon itself is not as attractive as it might be and David Alan himself can be a bit abrasive at times (I do hate being called dear) but Francesco is the best!!!! And I had a fabulous massage there. I give the salon 5 stars because Francesco deserves that many and more1 more

Prospective clients, please note that the last 11 positive reviews were all posted on the SAME Exact DAY. Figure for yourself if they were written by the owner's family members. But that type of deceptive practice doesn't surprise me coming from this place, or David Perlman (the owner, aka David Alan) himself. I had a manicure and a hair cut at this place, tried it out when I saw the big new building open up on Rt. 4. There was only 1 woman doing the manicures, so I had to wait a while- and then when it was finally my turn, she kept trying to add more things onto my order, more money for them, of course. It did not feel comfortable to be pressured. Also, she was very unprofessional. I was surprised, especially from the whole vibe David Alan tries to give off, as a high-end salon. THis place really is not! The bathroom was so gross. No soap or towels, and the garbage can was overflowing. Also, the woman at the front desk (i think thats his wife?) was so rude to me, first on the phone, and then again when I arrived early for my appointment. Save yourself stress and money and go elsewhere. I mean, we're in Bergen County, you should have no problems finding a decently-run salon. more

It's been awhile since I have been to David Alan, but seems like it's the same old bad experience. I went there a couple of times, first time was OK, but the whole place had an unfriendly vibe, so I went back one more time. Horrible, David did my hair and in the middle of doing my hair cut, left me in the chair and said he would be right back. I sat there for over one hour and later found out through sources that he went all the way home to his house in Saddle River to let in a repairman. THe nerve...also on that same visit a friend of mine was also scheduled and when I mentioned to David that I waited a long time for him to return and asked if he could do somethine, again he said I will be right back and my friend heard the entire conversation at the reception desk, mocking me and saying no way in fact I'll charge her a little more now. By the way the blonde receptionist (don't remember her name) is his wife. No very nice people, I have never returned and will never return. Stay far away never more

This salon is a ripoff. It is always a mess and everyone from the receptionist to the person washing hair to the stylists are rude and unfriendly. they should pay me to cut my hair there!!! more

I don't know what the other reviews on here are about, maybe disgruntled ex-employees?Not sure, But I had a great time there, and was pleased to know they offer gift certificates so I can send my friends!! The owner was really nice. The staff seems new and are New York City experienced! more

It seems as if most of these reviews were written when the salon was located in the Riverside Square Mall. However, a little over a year ago David Alan Salon & Spa made the transition over to the other side of the highway and is now a new, clean, and relaxing place to get a haircut. While the owner is known to be extremely unfriendly and downright strange, I have had minimal encounters with him and certainly no negative ones. I, too used to be a client of Gene's and had only wonderful, but pricey, results from him. SInce he has left, I have started getting my hair cut by Christine, and I highly recommend her. She will do exactly what you tell her you want, which is a nice relief from all the hairstylists in the world who are overly "scissor-happy". She is very sweet but not overly talkative, and works at a nice pace and with attention to detail when performing a blowout. The receptionist is very friendly, and the salon is never too crowded, especially these days. Overall, a pleasant experience and recommended for those who are looking for a nice haircut and don't mind paying a little more for it. more

The stylists are wonderful, especially Angelica!!! The owner is the most rude and obnoxious person on the planet. I only go for the staff but I hate knowing he ends up with the profit. more

couple of weeks ago I was there to get hair cut with Gene, cause I read lots of recommendations on this review page and color with the guy- forgot his name,. I didn't like the way I got my hair done, Instead they charged a lot. Prices was terribly high and service was worst and very dirty place. It was one of my worst experience in my entire life. Warning!!!!! Be away from that salon more

Definitely I agree - ask for Gene! He's the best. Really takes his profession seriously and gives great cuts. A little pricey - but totally worth it. My hair cut lasted me extraordinarily long. I was surprised that even 2 months later, my hair looked great! I've heard there is an excellent colorist over there as well. I will be hopefully trying him out next! more

The stylists do a great job. Very professional and up-to-date cuts and styles. However you have to look past the disaster of a salon before you get to the chair. Everytime I have ever been there the salon looks dirty and very messy. It is amazing that they charge so much for services and can't pay a decent cleaning staff. more

This salon does a wonderful job. An appointment is definitely necessary but they usually run on schedule. Tons of parking in the mall parking deck and they are located very close to the mall entrance. The stylists are always professional, friendly, and you will love your cut! more
