Just once I’d like to go somewhere I need a part from and not be harassed into purchasing more items from them. Well, I sure didn’t experience that at Custom Sounds. These guys know their stuff and don’t try to nickel and dime you into more money spent. THAT’S how you do business!!! Not to mention, they had just what I needed and at a competitive price. This is definitely my go to shop from now on. Thanks. more

I went into custom sounds to see if they had an adapter I needed for an upgrade stereo I was installing in my girlfriends car. They had the part when a corporate company didn’t. I was impressed at that point. Then, when some uncontrollable circumstances arose, I chose to have them install the stereo for me. I’m not sure I could’ve done it better myself. Thanks for the helping hand guys!! more

They told me it woudl be about a 1 1/2- 2 hour wait and it was 1 45min- just perfect. Ya'll put a stereo in for me back in 1987 when I moved here- so hey it is all good on the customers end. Thanks.\r more

Great service, great job! 8/16/2011

I recently had my windows tinted here and the Custom Sounds team did an amazing job. Staff was helpful in getting me the right tint to make this weather more bearable and I couldn't be happier with the results. I've received numerous compliments and I love the way my car looks. Not to mention, feels like it's a 100 degrees cooler driving home. This is the second car Custom Sounds has tinted for me and I will never go anywhere else. more

poor service 12/19/2010

Custom Sounds installed a car alarm a few years ago & I was very satisfied. I purchased a new car & had Custom Sounds install it as well but I am very disappointed this time. I took my car in on Sat. 12/4/10 at 11:00 a.m. & was told it should not take any more than 4 hours to install. By 6:00 p.m. I had not heard anything so I called & they said it would be ready by 6:30. I got there at 6:30 & it still was not readly. Finally at 7:15 my car was ready, however, the blue alarm indicator had not been installed. They had my car for over 8 hours. I was told that since it was a new car, did not want to cut hole to install light. I did not buy that for one minute. I was late for my office Christmas party. I took the car back on 12/14/10 to install the light & the decals. It only took them 20 minutes to install the light. However, the inside windshield was filthy from the tech's fingerprints. They could have at least cleaned the windshield. I believe that I should have been offered some type of compensation for all of this. When it comes time to buy another alarm and//or sound system, I will not chose Custom Sounds. more

I should have read the reviews here 12/12/2010

I needed tint on my new two-door vehicle and used these guys to save a little money. While they may know car audio, they don't know much about window tint. I didn't receive any help with tint shades or advice on how it would look. I had 30% put on my front windows and 15% put on my rear. Since I have a red car with a black interior, the tint shows much darker than I expected. I decided to pay them to re-tint the rear windows with 30%. They charged me $50.00 to re-tint the little triangle windows, but quoted me $270.00 to do the triangles and rear window. Keep in mind that the original tint job was only $180.00. I found their quote exorbitant to say the least. I had them fix the triangle windows for $50.00, but left the rear window. I wish I'd thought quicker as I wouldn't have spent another penny with them. \r \r I take full responsibility for my bad decisions, but I thought they could be more reasonable to keep a customer satisfied. I would have been happy to pay a bill to fix it, but $270.00, get real! \r \r If you need car audio work done, you should consider the other negative reviews. While I can't comment on their audio work, I urge everyone to take their new cars to dedicated tint shops (Sunbusters and Sun Tint come to mind). You'll be better served taking your vehicle to people that really know tint and can help quide you to the look you want. \r \r The funny thing is that I was prepared to use this place for my future stereo needs. Now they have a bad review, lost a $1000.00 audio job and I'll make sure that none of my friends, family or associates use this company. I can't believe they do business this way in such a tough economy. more

don't trust or give them your correct info 4/16/2010

The other night my suv was broken into and the system custom sounds installed a few weeks prior was stolen. Police caught the thief and found a copy of my receipt in his pocket, along with over 20 other receipts from other custom sounds customers. The receipts had names, phone numbers, addresses, and vehicle descriptions right at the top, along with a line by line description of what was bought and installed and how much it cost. The thief said he found them in the dumpster behind the store. Apparantly they just throw away copies of teceipts that they don't need. Very nice of custom sounds to make this info available to thiefs so they know exactly where to go to break into vehicles. Maybe they can start attaching maps to the receipts when they throw them away to make it easier for thiefs to find expensive equipment to steal. My insurance company tried to get me to go back to custom sounds to get the equipment replaced and I had to tell them otherwise. Makes me wonder if this isn't some sort of scheme custom sounds has going on. I agree with prior posts that the staff there looked like they were high. Probably ex-cons too.I will never trust custom sounds again with any of my business knowing that they don't protect their customers information. Pros: ok work Cons: sloppy record keeping more

Broken promises 12/10/2009

I made an appoitment to install a deck. Was told it would take 2 to 3 hours. After 3 hours no call. I called and they said they had just started. I am now 7 hours into it and no end in sight. I hope that there work is at least good. I am expecting a credit for the time wasted. I will post again the final results. Waste of time. more

Custom Sounds is far from Custom 4/26/2009

Seems like most the install shops now days that are ""chain"" stores only do basic installs... Fine if you are that group of people who just want noise to listen to in your vehicle...\r I on the other hand, like to hear and feel my music. Having worked for most the major chains, CarToys Inc included I have seen what CUSTOM looks like. I went to the Custom Sounds in Pflugerville wanting to buy 15 feel of 4ga power cable ONLY... my freind had everything else to do the install with .... No need for the 100.00 all in one kit that Best Buy, WalMart and Custom Sounds all sell now... \r The Sales staff there knew NOTHING about what they were selling, didnt even know basic terms like battery connector, power cable, crimp rings, ect... USELESS EMPLOYEE. Looked higher than a kite... \r ""We dont sell wires by the foot"" ?!?!?!?! What? You mean to tell me you dont have rolls of bulk install wire back in the back on racks?? NO, We just have a little incase we have to do an install... IN CASE? Dont you do installs all day long?? What is this in case stuff?!?!?!\r Needless to say we went to the little shop across the road called Sub Sonic and got the power cable for a good price.. Skip the hassle from these local prima donnas and go to the small guys, they still want your business... Pros: Overpriced Items Cons: Not enough parts in stock to do ANYTHING custom more

don't trust them 1/21/2009

I had custom sounds tint my windows in my car in 2002 and went back in 2006 to fix tint that was bubbling and coming off. Just recently, they changed the warranty conditions. Because I did not have the original receipt, which they initially said I would not need because I was in their system, they will no longer honor their warranty. They have me in their computer database but refuse to honor their warranty. They said they would install tint if I paid for it again, but who would want to deal with dishonest individuals twice and why would anyone want to pay for a warrantied service? I Pros: can't think of any Cons: Don't honor warranties more

""Not Close to Custom Sounds"" 4/15/2008

Took my 1999 4Runner in to get a Marine head unit put in. Manager, Mr. Atherton, said his installers were out but looked at the project and said they could do it--come back in a week. Took the day off from work and came back. Dropped the vehicle off early and he said he would give me a call when it was done. Waited 3 HOURS past my scheduled time. Get a call saying they couldnt do the ""custom"" install. Made we wait 3 hours and never once did i receive a call. Grabbed my stuff and when to Best Buy.......they installed it and my IPOD connection in less time and for less money AND they dont claim to be custom. Stay away folks these guys dont know what custom is Pros: Cant think of any Cons: Like many things--it is hard to find people that really know what they are doing more

Buyer Beware. Avoid like the plague. 12/24/2007

Horrendous experience with purchase/install of an aftermarket head unit. Five days of dead car batteries and long return visits to Custom Sounds. I finally asked for a refund of ~$400 spent on a defective install, and management agreed only to refund parts (around 50%). \r \r Net: $200, days spent without a car, three mornings with a dead battery, and NO SOUND IN THE CAR. I even got a free side of sarcasm when I complained about my undriveable car and my $400 unplayable stereo. Eventually had it fixed for $40 at Best Buy, where a 19-year-old informed me that Custom Sounds had sold/installed the wrong adapter (over $100 + labor).\r \r Expensive lesson learned. more

Excellent service 7/27/2007

We've used Custom Sounds for over a decade. We aren't high-end audiophiles, but even though we buy lower-end stereos, their sales reps find the right equipment for us, rather than steer us to the highest-priced or highest-margin stereo. Our last great experience with Custom Sounds on Burnet was a week ago when they installed a stereo I bought online (it was a brand they don't carry). They had scheduled my installation for the following day, so I brought my car and the new stereo the day before my installation 30 minutes before they closed so they'd have it for the next day. The rep went back to the installation area and came back and said, ""My guys think they could get this installed tonight."" Sure enough, they stayed until 10 minutes after they closed to get my stereo installed and I went home the same evening. Fantastic service! Pros: Excellent staff and customer service Cons: Don't carry full selection of brands more
