Mini Cupcakes = Perfect for Any Party 7/20/2010

Although this bakery is a New York transplant, I'd argue that a comparison can be drawn between Crumbs cupcakes and the superficial people in Hollywood; what's on the outside is the best part. Without the frosting and goodies on top, Crumbs cupcakes don't really stand out. However, once they're all dressed up, it's a whole different story and you just can't wait to devour them. Snocaps, peanut butter cups, brownies, and pistachios are just a few of the things that they use to decorate their cupcakes. Think that sounds good? Wait until you hear some of their flavors: White Hot Chocolate, Fluffernutter, and Caramel Apple are just the tip of the icing. Flavors aside, Crumbs also wins the award for having the most options for cupcake size. They offer ""taste"" (a mini), ""classic"" and the ""Signature"" which is a giant cupcake. I really only use this bakery for their mini cupcakes which are absolutely perfect for parties. more

I AM THE CUP CAKE MONSTER! 9/29/2008

Tis place is amazing. There is no need to read a review. Try one bite and you'll be a fan for life. I'm hooked. more

Crumbs reminds me of childhood... 8/30/2008

I have been around to most of the cupcake bakeries and Crumbs reminds me of when I was kid eating my birthday cake. The cake is moist and the the frosting is creamy. I judge cupcakes by how a a simple vanilla cupcake tatstes. I couldn't even finish a vanilla cupcake from Sprinkles. It tasted like cardboard and stale air. I had two bites and I threw it in the trash. Vanilla bakeshop has more of a gourmet feel. I loved their red velvet and meyer lemon but their vanilla was to sweet. At Lark I had the lemon white chocolate. It was ok but my husbands chocolate moose frosting was divine. Yummy was average. I have yet to find the perfect cupcake but Crumbs will satisfy me till I can find the time to bake in my own kitchen. Pros: has more than one location Cons: the selection can be overwhelming more

Not so great... 8/10/2008

So... I've heard alot about this place on TV, but it wasn't as great as it's made out to be... The cupcake was huge and the prices were pretty reasonable... But the cupcake itself was pretty dry... Service was okay... but if I want some really great cupcakes... I'll be down the street... Pros: Big cupcakes Cons: Parking, no place to sit and enjoy the cupcake more

No need to lick up these Crumbs 5/23/2008

Crumbs may trump neighboring competitor Sprinkles in cupcake size, but not in quality. Compared to Sprinkles, Crumbs? offers cupcakes that are considerably larger and come in wider range of flavors on a daily basis. Classic red velvet and chocolate fudge cupcakes as well as unconventional Twinkie and blueberry swirl varieties can be found in the display case that spans almost the entire width of the small shop. Crumbs further distinguishes itself from Sprinkles by offering other desserts, including cookies and brownies. \r \r Yet while it might be fun to look at the Reese?s Peanut Butter cupcake erupting with candy bits or the banana split one that is even topped with a cherry, Crumbs? creativity is not matched in taste. Their cake mix in their colorful, M$M cupcake came across dry, and the icing was in desperate need of a more full-bodied creaminess. The moistness of Sprinkles? cupcakes and the balanced richness of their icing flavors were much missed. It was suddenly very apparently why of the two similarly-sized cupcakes shops just blocks from each other, Crumbs was not the one with the long queue of costumers out the door. \r \r If you?re going to spend the money on gourmet cupcakes, you might as well spend the extra time waiting in line at Sprinkles. \r \r \r Pros: good variety of desserts, unique cupcake flavors Cons: taste more

Biggest cupcakes! 5/22/2008

You definitely have to split these cupcakes with someone! While Sprinkles down the street has the best red velvet cupcakes, Crumbs definitely has the most creative and interesting kinds of cupcakes. While the cupcakes can sometimes be dry, other times amazing, overall their cake is very good and their fillings add something extra to the cupcake. My favorite is their chocolate raspberry one! Pros: Big portions Cons: Sometimes dry more

Better Cupcake than the Ones Down the Street 3/28/2008

At first I was amazed that another cupcake shop would open just a few blocks away from the constant line in front of Sprinkles. However, being a local and seeing it alll the time, I finally decided to try a Crumbs cupcake during lunchtime. \r \r Now, just a little background, I work in an office where vendors are DAILY sending us Sprinkles cupcakes (try a little originality, right?) Yeah, I jumped on this bandwagon but soon tired of the dry, too dense, too sweet and too much frosting of the famous Sprinkles.\r \r I tried the ""Hostess"" cupcake at Crumbs, which was an homage to the Hostess cupcakes of everyone's childhood. I was pleasantly surprised - the icing was glossy and fresh, just a small layer topped by a squiggle of light fluffy cream. The cake was light and spongy, supermoist and not too sweet. It was absolute heaven, the kind of cupcake I would like to make myself!\r \r To all those standing in front of Sprinkles on little Santa Monica - walk a few blocks down to try this tastier and more delightful treat. I would rather recieve these cupcakes than anyone else's! Pros: Great bakery with friendly service Cons: Tough location for anyone but locals more

NOT the best cupcake in la! 3/16/2008

price point and portions are great, cupcakes just fall short in taste. Way too much frosting, cake was dry nothing special! I was dissapointed. more

The Up and Coming Rival to Sprinkles!!! 2/15/2008

These cupcakes are as huge as your head and as scrumpdidalilumptious as smore's fireside. They offer so many different flavors such as key lime (filled with buttercream), reese's peanut butter and the artie lange ( w/chocolate buttercream filling and vanilla frosting topped with a layer of chocolate fondant). The reason i find this place so much better than sprinkles is the simple fact that:\r \r 1. not too sweet \r 2. no waiting in line \r 3. whimiscal choices\r 4. cake batter to frosting 70/20 (which is the perfect amount unlike sprinkles 40/60!!)\r 5. HUGE & still same price as sprinkles for one cc \r 6. open as late as 10pm\r 7. overall taste is better than any ive ever had\r \r As far as cons go:\r \r 1. st parking may be hard to find as it is in bev. hills\r 2. if you arrive late in the day flavors such as red velvet and flavor of the day may be sold out\r 3. doesnt offer any by the dozen deals, priced per cc\r \r Other than that im counting the days till I can go back agan!!! And i can't wait to try their other gourmet treats! Pros: taste, variety, price Cons: parking more

yummy mouth watering cupcakes! 2/12/2008

the cupcakes here a very moist and super huge. the flavors aren't overpowering and it's not overly sweet, like the cupcakes from sprinkles. the cupcakes are a bit expensive, about $3-4 for one cupcake.. it's just a couple blocks away from sprinkles and this place has no line whatsoever like sprinkles always does. the only bad thing is that it didnt carry red velvet which is cupcakes business suicide. the shopping around the area is nice, but expensive, so i guess it's expected to pay a high price for cupcakes. Pros: cupcakes, no line Cons: parking, prices a bit high more

Amazing amazing amazing. 2/6/2008

Flavors for every taste! If you can imagine it they've got a fresh batch waiting for you. I went in at 2:00 on a Wednesday and got cupcakes flavored with Cappucino, Reese's, Coconut with chocolate cake, and a Pecan Pie. Each was amazing in it's own way, and I loved them! Soft cake, creamy frosting that taste like perfect fresh ingredients were used. No chemical preservative aftertaste here! Pros: Fantastic product, friendly counter staff Cons: Nothing's baked on site, so no bakery smell. :( more

Great NY cupcakes & fun experience 1/28/2008

Originally from NY, Crumbs shows LA what cupcakes should be like, massive and flavorful. \r \r The staff is super friendly and the shop offers mini sized cupcakes as ""samples"" to each customer. I tried their sample of Cotton Candy, which was too pretty to resist in pink, blue and purple. It was basically a vanilla/butter cream cupcake with cotton candy like rocky sprinkles on top of pink frosting. It was moist and simple.\r \r I?m a fan of diverse flavors and Crumbs did not disappoint with large cupcakes for $3.75 in varieties that included key lime, blueberry cobbler, pina colada, banana split, cookie dough, Boston cream, caramel apple, pistachio, hostess, carrot cake, fluffernutter and so many more. \r \r I especially like their pumpkin and raspberry swirl. Pros: Lots of choices and flavors, more value for your buck, no pretentiousness Cons: You'll get full quick on these large and sweet cupcakes more

A Dessert Lover's Dream 12/8/2007

When I walked into this cafe, I nearly fainted. Oodles of cupcake abundance everywhere, and so many flavors to choose from. I highly recommend anything with the chocolate fondant. more

The nicest cupcake people in L.A.! 11/18/2007

Late one night I happened to be scootering on Santa Monica Boulevard and noticed the Crumbs sign reflected in one of the shops on the street and decided to turn and drive by. Much to my surprise the place was actually opened! Unlike other cupcake spots, this place stays open til 11 and the folks there are extremely friendly. The cupcake options are incredible -- the Hostess is probably my fave (it has whipped cream in the center just like the real one) and the lemon cream cheese is also fantastic. (I think the cream cheese frostings taste the best.) Everyone says how great the caramel apple flavor is, although I think it's too sweet and tastes more like carrot cake. Since my first serendipitious visit, I've gone back a handful times and every time the workers have been so helpful & friendly. Finally, people in BH without attitude! Pros: Super-friendly service, marvelous selection Cons: Parking can be difficult more

A Real Cupcake in Beverly Hills 11/12/2007

There must be 20 different cupcakes to choose from. I tried the Flutternutter and the Cookie Dough. Both were delicious but my fav was the Cookie Dough. I want to go back and try several other flavors. The cupcakes are so big it is enough for 4 people. Pros: Delicious Cupcakes more

Delicious Cupcakes!! 11/11/2007

Crumbs cupcakes are huge and deliciously moist with a think layer of frosting. I recommend either the Oreo or the Hostess. I can't wait to go back and try a few more of their flavors-- so many to choose from and they all look amazing. more
