I was referred to CAH for a second opinion on my 10 y/o Springer Spaniel Molly?s need for orthopedic surgery. Molly?s surgery was successfully completed by Dr. Mike Vitucci and his excellent team and Molly spent 2 weeks at the clinic for post op care. She got the best care possible and was treated like family. She is doing wonderful! She no longer walks on 3 legs in pain. They are a top notch clinic with all the latest technology and strive to be the best and in my opinion have far exceeded the level of excellent care! I would highly recommend CAH for all your vet needs, whether it be routine shots or complicated orthopedic surgery! You won?t regret it or be disappointed. Molly loves to visit with all the staff each time she goes in for follow up care and wags her tail with enthusiasm! I think her opinion says it best! Pros: null Cons: null more

cat knee repair 5/7/2012

Dr. Mike and all his staff were very helpful in aiding my cat when he had trouble with his right hind knee. We ended up needing to have surgery and everyone was very caring and understanding durring the process. They even made sure I knew how to care for my cat after we came home and called to check and see how things were going. Both my cats are patients and like all the vets and staff that work here. more

My dog Lucy 5/3/2012

I took my dog Lucy to see Dr. Mike Vitucci for the first time because she could not get up from a laying position by herself. My other dog, Casey had jumped on the bed & landed on Lucy's leg. I thought for sure that major damage had been done to Lucy's knee & leg.I thought for sure that we were going to be talking about several thousand dollars worth of surgery when I walked in the door. However, upon examination, Dr Mike said that he did not think that there was anything major wrong & he did not feel that an x-ray was needed or other tests. He could feel no tares & Lucy allowed him to examine her leg without getting upset. His suggestion to me was for Lucy to loose weight. She is a beagle/dashhound mix & she weighed in at 74.4 lbs. He suggested I start Lucy on Slentrol a medication for assisting with weight loss in dogs. I started the medication because diet dog food by itself was not working. Lucy has been on the medicine for 7 months & has lost 24.7% of her body weight. She is now more

Torn ACL 4/27/2012

My dog Saddie tore both of her ACLs within a 1 and a half year tijme period. Dr. Mike Vitucci was the surgeon who performed the surgery on both of her knees. He and his staff were wonderful to work with...both times. It is a surgery with a recovery that requires patience and time. Dr. Mike made it easy. His bed side manor was wonderful and positive. He loves what he does. Today, Sadie was released to be a dog again. We are thrilled and can't wait to see her run and play with her brother and sister. Sadie was blessed with the skilled hands of Dr. Mike. On behalf of, Sadie, myself and our family...thank you! more

Great experience! Fantastic Results! Highly Recommend! 4/25/2012

My best friend and companion animal (Norton) was diagnosed with ACL tears in both of his hind legs. After doing much research on-line and reading un-biased reviews, I chose County Animal Hospital and Dr. Mike Vitucci. He treated my baby dog and best friend (Norton), like he would treat his own companion animal. Both Norton and I were treated with much kindness and respect. Dr. Mike performed surgery on Norton's left hind leg and Norton recuperated with Dr. Mike and his excellent and caring staff. After nine weeks, Dr. MIke performed surgery on Norton's right hind leg. Again, Norton recuperated for a period of time under the care and direction of Dr. Mike and his staff. During his hospitilizations, I was allowed to visit with Norton anytime during working hours. I always found Norton to be well-cared for, happy, and in a clean and loving environment. I was allowed to bring Norton's favorite toys which I found with him at every visit. Norton has recuperated from these surgeries and is now up and running around, happy and healthy. In fact, under Dr. Mike's care, Norton has thrived. He is a much happier and healthier dog. I highly recommend Dr. Mike Vitucci and his staff for all of your pet's needs. Norton and I both feel that we have found a new home away from home for Norton and a doctor that truly cares about us! Ms 4/16/2012

I was refered to County Animal Hospital because my dog ruptured her cruciate. I was welcomed into the office by their wonderful staff at the front desk. Dr. Vitucci took the time to do a full exam on my do and explained to me everything he was doing and why he was doing it. He took the time to educate me on what this condition is and what would be the best surgery for my her. He took the time and explained all of the different types of procedure to fix my dogs leg, which really seemed like he cared a lot. After educating me on everything, he helped me make a decision on which procedure was the best for my pet. I was reading the other reviews on Dr. Vitucci on-line and a previous person had put that he was pushy but i never got the impression from him, I only ever got the feeling that he wanted to help my pet to be pain free. I felt like overall the staff at County Animal Hospital was very nice and cared for the animals. more

Dr Michael Vitucci - PUSHY!!!! Car Salesman Attitude 12/28/2011

Michael P. Vitucci MS, DVM has a characteristic of a used salesman. He cares more about his pocketbook then his actual patients. Prime example, our dog had torn his ACL and needed surgery. Dr Michael Vitucci was trying to push this surgery the very next day. My gut told me something wasn't right and on that same day, I took my dog to be looked at by another Veterinary Facility. Well my gut feeling was right. We should of taken care of his infection first before actually doing the surgery. If we had gone with the surgery the next day, we would of been looking at his new implant being infected for his torn ACL by this infection. We also did our research on Dr Michael Vitucci he isn't Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Yes he may have done surgeries before but If I am going to invest several of thousand of dollars into my dog, then that Vet better be certified and should know what he is doing. If you truly care for your pets as much as I do, I would stay away from Dr Michael Vitucci. We also have had some friends who have run into the same problem with this Doctor. He only cares about his pocketbook and bringing in the money!! Pros: null Cons: null more

Best decision we made! 1/12/2011

We had taken our bassett to a different vet several times and tried different medications to resolve a weight loss issue and skin irriation. He had no progress and seemed to be getting worse. We went to the County Animal Hospital when Max was not eating at all and didn't want to move much. Right away Dr. Vitucci realized he had a serious infection and performed an emergancy surgery on Sunday. He then began to completely analyze the past history and gave us several possibilities for the weight issues. FINALLY A DOCTOR THAT CARES AS MUCH ABOUT OUR DOG AS WE DO!! We realize that there may not be a quick fix but it feels good to know you can trust that your vet is doing his best and has a defined plan. more

CAH is the BEST!!! 8/22/2009

Our cat, and, two dogs have gone there for years. Dr. Vitucci/Staff are always "very helpful", and, so compassionate with our animals!!! Our cat Jackson had a pellet removed; because, our neighbor shot him. Our dog Jersey had a tumor removed. Our dog Beans had a cyst removed, and, two knee surgeries (the latter TTA). Such great care was always given; especially, during/after the surgeries! Dr. Vitucci even gave us his cell number; the follow up care is excellent!!! If anyone has an animal needing TTA sx; then, we will be happy to speak with them! The hardest part of the TTA surgery was keeping Beans calm; but, CAH helped with that too!!! We "highly" recommend taking your animal(s) to CAH, because, they are GREAT!!! Pros: Most compassionate; and, great attention to detail!!! Cons: No cons! The staff, and, the vets are fabulous!!! more

Revolving door 7/29/2008

I've been taking my cats to County Animal for over 20 years -- and as long as everything is basically OK, you've got no problems. The support staff is very nice, and it's not hard to get an appointment.\r \r However... if you want a consistent relationship with your vet, forget it. The doctors do NOT stay long (Dr. Young, for example, who is so well-regarded in these reviews, has been gone for quite some time) -- and I've lost track of how many new doctors I've had for my cats. When I made that point to the receptionist today (on discovering that I will now need yet ANOTHER new vet), she said I hadn't really seen that many doctors. Right.\r \r I've also been trying unsuccessfully to get their "trainer" to call me with advice for some really serious cat problems I've been having for the past few months, and she simply will NOT call. I'm on this site right now because I'm looking for a better situation. I can't in good conscience recommend this group. more

Joseph Stivers 3/1/2008

I have used this vet on and off since the 70s for 8 different pets. Country Animal Hospital vets have been invariably the best in the city and as good as those in McLean Virginia. Have tried others in both St Louis and the county but always return to County Animal Hospital regardless of the length of the drive because of their attention to detail and extraordinary level of care. I put my name on the review to demonstrate that I would stand by the recommendation to use their services. more

Dead Dog! 2/19/2008

My wife and I were in a rush to find an animal hospital that could surgically fix our Min Pins Leg that he had just broken by accidentally falling off the bed. They reassured us that surgery would be no problem and our 6 month old pup would be running around again before we knew it. When we got the call to inform us that the surgery went great but the dog had heart failure and died, we were in shock. This wasn't part our thoughts or fears at all. We understand it happens to pets and people under anaesthesia, but not our 5 pound puppy. We recieved word that County never called our regular vet to get medical history or medications currently on. And we feel they neglected to properly asses him for his ability to be put under. We are deeply hurt and want to caution everyone to research hospitals first and ask a lot of questions along the way. more

Super service! 11/26/2005

Such kind people work here. When we moved to Wildwood, our cat had a hard time with the move and ending up getting pretty sick. They took such great care of him and made us feel so reassured. more

Dr. Micah Young is the best veterinarian I have come across! He really cares about the animals he treats. He even will call to follow up on how they're doing after a visit. This is also a greyhound rescue center. more

Oh such amazing vets work here! 7/29/2005

When we moved we needed to find a new place to take our dog in case of emergency situations where we did not have a half hour drive. This is now where I take my 4 legged daughter April. They have excellent hours they are open until very very late and weekend hours also. When my dog had a problem with her ears I called them and they got me in with in a half hour. We see Dr Young and he is so nice. He gives her treats to calm her down and talks to her and me the whole while we are there. He is so friendly and so is his staff, they are great here and their prices are about average what others are. PROS: great hours , super nice staff and great loving vets well trained CONS: none more
