Thanks to all at Cottages on Grant! For renting my apartment quickly, and without any issues or problems! I can say it was a great place to live, one of the best!

Bad Experience 6/20/2012

I used to live in Cottages on Grant and wish someone had warned me about the management. They have issues. By the time I moved out, I was frankly scared of them. They also do not respect tenant/landlord boundaries. For example, they do not respect the 24 hr notice to come into your apartment and they will pick up and move and/or confiscate your belongings outside. My neighbor even had his trash bin held "hostage" for $30., even though he was the one with the garbage contract and paid the city's garbage bill. I avoided the management and maintenance people at all costs. Conversations were too adversarial. more

Don't Do It! 12/16/2011

Really really really really bad! Don't let the fake reviews get you like they got me. Owners are mean. Steal your money. Treat you like dirt. The apartments LOOK nice but are really horrible. Cold in the winter. Burning hot in the summer. Don't give these crazy people a dime of your money! more

worst apartment complex in Raleigh! 11/28/2011

Owners are verbally abusive to their tenants. I saw it happen to several people. High utility bills, and still was cold in winter, hot in summer. paper thin walls, bugs. bad bad bad. no redeeming qualities to this place at all. more

Free at Last! 8/2/2011

The apartment wasn't great moving in- the previous tenant had smelly cats, and amonst other problems (it was basically surface-clean, but still needed a good cleaning). I moved in, and the owners completely changed. They started harassing me about noise and it wasn’t even me. The workers are rude and I think one of them was trying to watch me through the window. I moved out hoping to just get away from the place but more touble came. I didn't leave the apartment trashed or gross, but it did need a basic cleaning (ie a quick mop, not a hands and knees floor scrubbing) Considering that it took me a week to even get it into shape to move into, I thought that would be sufficient. I received a bill for close to a month's rent. Avoid anything with Cottages on Grant unless you enjoy stress. more

Not Recommended 3/3/2011

The apartments are in a great location. Close to Cameron Village, close to downtown - easy access to all things fabulous for you twenty-somethings. The apartments one probably could have called "cute and charming" if we weren't nearly 20 years out now from their early 90's renovation. Now, they're dingy, mouse and insect infested and so poorly insulated that you can hear every word of your neighbor's conversation and I speak from experience....every last dime you saved to go out on the town in your fabulous new neighborhood will be put into the kitty called PSNC energy. The grounds are poorly maintained, the parking is a horrible situation, the Yelvertons will in fact enter your apartment without notice, and they will verbally abuse you - even if you are a tenant they consider one of their best. I will not get into specifics about my experience with the Yelvertons. I'd like to remain anonymous because they quite frankly scare me. But I will say this: Entering into a contract with them is something I consider to be one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. Loved living on Grant 3/3/2011

We loved living on Grant Ave. Our apartment was perfect for my roommate and me. We each had our own bedroom. What it lacked in newer amenities, it made up for in charm. I recommend Cottages on Grant! more

Place to live 2/26/2011

my mother and law lived here while being treated for cancer and she loved the place. It has all want in an apartment. The location is perfect to shopping, airport, college campuses, food, groceries, hospitals, etc. The staff is friendly and they are looking after the tenants by keeping out the rift raft. more

GReat place to live 2/24/2011

I love living at Cottages on Grant. It is close to everything, and the sidewalks are perfect for walks. We've even walked to CAmeron Village for dinner. The apartment has lots of charm and we've had no trouble with the staff. Great place to live! more

DO NOT RENT 11/19/2010

The owners will harrass you. The houses are old and crappy. You WILL regret renting from these people. more

ready to move out of here 1/6/2010

I am a current resident at the Cottages on Grant. I wish i had never moved in. The place is drafty in the winter and has a funny smell. In the summer, your AC goes straight outside too. I have heard that virtually no one gets thier deposit back. I guess i will find out bc i am definatly moving asap. RENTER BE WARE! more

cheap and stingy 1/6/2010

I am not impressed with the professionalism of the office staff. sarah is a muppet. i wonder why they are having problems renting out the open units ? read over the lease in great detail and document everything via pictures cam corder. get notarized copies of everything bc they will try to screw you over and probably succeed. more

Watch your Back!! 1/4/2010

Cottages on Grant is not somewhere you want to live. George Yelverton rules this place w/an iron fist. His rules are designed to not be followed, b/c no person who enjoys life could possibly have a worthy existence living 'his' way. The lease is filled w/so many rules that they will hold you to and use against you so can not get your deposit back. I'm not sure what has led to George and his wife acting the way they do, but they are simply ruthless, cold and flat out mean. Ultimately I feel sorry for them and only hope they wake up one day and realize that acting the way they do is just tiring and pointless. more

they will take u for your money!! 3/5/2009

I paid my rent on time the every month and cleaned the apartment spottless yet they still kept half of my deposit for a previous tenants damage! I had proof that I didnt do the damgage yet they still would not refund me my money! I tried calling them and the owner said to never call there again and to stop harrassing them and hung up, but this was the only time I had tried to contact them!!! I hear from even the people that work for this scum bag that he will nickle and dime you to death and they are right!! DO NOT RENT FROM HIM!! I live one st. back in a nicer, bigger and cheaper place from b and b properties! more

Nice neighborhood 1/31/2006

I have really enjoyed living in the grant ave apartments, not really apartments these are more duplexes and small townhouses. They have hardwood floors and are located inside the beltine so they're close to everything...thats the good. The bad: 1. The owner is VERY cheap, so the hardwoods are scratched and worn badly in many of the units, he laos has old style windows that he refuses to replace in many of the units so they arn't very energey efficient. He also changes $75 for the privilage of running YOUR OWN dryer in your house. you pay your own water, electric trash and gas. 2. Gas Heat 3. If you break your lease you have to pay rent just like you cntinued to live here, until they rent your space out AND you lose your security deposit. more
