Coastal Import Repair Ltd

I like to support small business when I can, but I was extremely dissatisfied by the service at this shop. I took my car in for a simple oil change and I also asked them to check the spare tire. I spoke to a man in the front office with long grey hair and a big nose and smelled like reefer, I think he might of been a mechanic or the janitor, I'm not sure. When I came to pick the car up the next day the woman in the front office and another mechanic with a long blond beard and glasses were having a polite conversation and ignored me for a couple of minutes. When they finally noticed me I told them who I was and that I was there to pick up my car the mechanic told the woman that he had just finished it. When I asked the mechanic if he had checked the spare he told the woman that the spare was fine, but he would not look or speek to me directly. He also recommended, to the woman, that I should get the tires rotated. When I said no I heard another dark haired mechanic with a beard in the back room mutter something, and I think I heard the word "idiot", I'm not sure. When I got home I checked the $@!#% and noticed that there was a lot of oil on the $@!#% and it looked dark, like old oil. I took it in to my regular mechanic a couple of weeks later and he told me that they had just added oil and had not drained the old oil out, and he said that that could be bad for the engine. I am beyond dissatisfied with this shop. I AM FURIOUS! And I regret having ever given these people my car for the day. more

I was referred to Coastal Import when I moved to town 8 or 9 years ago by a neighbor. In every case and for several vehicles, their support has been top-notch. I can't think of a time I have been less than satisfied and it is a real quality shop. The staffing is stable so you get comfortable with the front desk and mechanics and they do great work. more

Coastal Import is right down the street from where I work. They are convenient and always willing to work with my schedule. They handle themselves professionally and don't do anything they shouldn't be doing. more

I contacted them online, which was pretty easy. I told them what was wrong, because I had gotten it checked out at a shop earlier. They emailed me back and told me to drop it off, which I did. My only complaint was that they didn't call me before they performed any work. I had already told them I needed my brakes replaced, but they went ahead and did it without double checking with me. It seems like they did a good job though. The guys were nice and the shop was clean. more

Coastal Import has been servicing my two cars for over fifteen years. They do whatever needs to be done. They're very good, or I wouldn't be going back to them for as long as I have. more

I was very pleased with this new repair shop, following my second visit. They were helpful in reminding me that a year had passed since my last visit. Good Work! My car was ready when promised. When we first moved to town, Coastal Import was recommended to us as being a very honest shop with honest people. That was the main reason we started using them. I was in the military and traveling a lot, and I wanted a car I could count on. I found out about Coastal Import, and that they were a European car repair service, so I thought I would use them. I have been with Matthew and company for almost 30 years now. It doesn't matter where you go, there will always be some problems eventually, but at Coastal Import I always receive very good service. They do a good job. I refer people there all the time, and I think they are now taking on other types of cars as well, though they are primarily European cars. Out of everybody I have sent down there is only one person they couldn't help, but nobody else in town can find the problem either, so I don't think it was Coastal Import's fault. I have been dealing with them for 30 years, and I wouldn't go back if I didn't like it. They have great service. more

Coastal Import is just fabulous. They always respond to my requests, and their service is very thorough. They are accurate in their diagnosis as well. I am not a mechanic, but they know what they are doing. I have been going to Coastal Import for 5 years. I have old imported cars, and one has 170 thousand miles on it. That is almost 200 thousand miles! The car is dependable because of the service I get from Coastal. It looks almost brand new and is has so many miles on it. Wow! When there is a problem they will explain it and then repair it. At this point we have a relationship; they know me and I know them. I know that if they found something that was not fixable or not worth it, they would tell me. The mechanic who works on my car always works on my car. Now that person knows my car and is familiar with it. There is a connection there. It is nice that it is not a new technician every time, but the same mechanic. He knows the car, and that really helps. I think there is probably a lot of employee satisfaction because there have not been a lot of new technicians or mechanics. It keeps the business in the right direction because their people are satisfied. The shop is also really clean. It looks tidy and nice. When you go to a place that does car work, and they are clean and tidy it is very nice. They are also so courteous. The shop is within walking distance to my house, which is very convenient for me. I am really glad I go to Coastal Import. more

I enjoy that Coastal Import is a small operation and that it has been a part of the community for a number of decades. Their repeat customers are known on a first name basis. I appreciate that they provide me with a loaner car. They are always professional. When I leave my car, or my son's car, there is never a thought that we are going to have to bring it back for a followup or second look. When I pick up the car and drive away it is perfect. I purchased a used car for my 17 year-old son for college. I took it to Coastal Import and they went through the car from bumper to bumper and came up with a list of needed repairs. We slowly went through the list together, and they did it as if the car was for their own son. This included searching the internet to find me a used owners manual for the car. It is really outstanding service. more

I have been a customer of Coastal Import for 25 years. They are like my family doctor in that they know me, I know them, and I can call them on the phone for free advice if I need to. When I go to them with an emergency, they get me in right away. They have serviced a number of cars for me over the years, all Volvos with the exception of one '67 MGB. When I take my cars there, I have faith that they will find what is wrong, fix it, and do it as economically as possible. On the occasion that I have had to go back, Coastal Import has resolved the issue quickly and there have been no problems. I have ultimate trust in them.
