farmed fish? 3/5/2011

love the 'classics' here, but farmed salmon, Circa, really? Why? There's really kind of no excuse to do farmed salmon in Seattle...especially when you used to have such amazing seafood specials! what up? more

what happened to the chef? 2/12/2011

Have loved Circa for years, but feel like the food has taken a bit of a slip in the last year or so. The standbys are still fab - steak salad, truly the best meatloaf EVER, and the burger...sooo good! - but as far as the rest of the rest of the menu and the specials are concerned, it's just not what it used to be. They used to have really deliciously creative, seasonal, gastro-pubish menus with outrageous specials. Now the menu has a heavily fried and 1997 feel to it...not so modern! One of the servers mentioned that their chef moved to some island to cook at a bistro somewhere in the San Juans? So sad! ...gonna have find that island! more

Terrible service 4/5/2010

Circa, in West Seattle, has great food but be prepared to wait 30 minutes to get your salad when only 3 tables were busy. Then be prepared for your dinner to land on the table as you try to bolt down the salad. We have had terrible service 3 of the last 4 times - we won't go back. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Blessed to have Circa in our ""hood""! 3/27/2010

Where we head when we want COMFORT! It's a tough choice selecting our favorite standards or the specials of the day. We have never-ever been disappointed in the food or service. Huge bonus points that it's reasonably priced as well. Warm, inviting and oh so comfortable :). Pros: Beautiful food, tasty wine/beer & wonderful service. Cons: 7 year patrons & we have not found any yet. more

Brunch Slam Dunk 2/28/2010

I may or may not be writing this review prematurely, but I'd like to think I know a good brunch when I taste one and this was a great effort. The food was well delivered with perfectly seasoned hash browns, great sausage and above all the option to have their out-of-this-world coffee cake instead of toast. It was so good! The service was decent. Not overly pushy but not very friendly - just there to get you in and out, which we were ok with. I am looking forward to trying this place out for dinner and seeing the Ale House side of their operations! Pros: Above average food for a below average price. Cons: None that I can think of! more

Best In Town 5/6/2009

The people who work there are AWESOME! Great service, great conversation, and they really do know your names. The food has always delighted. If you are looking for great conversation and a nice selection of Beer and Wine, this is the place. The fellow travelers that eat and enjoy the beverages are always warm and friendly as well. So whether solo or a group of you, you are sure to have a terrific time at Circa's. ET and MW Pros: Better Than Cheers Cons: Parking sometimes more

terrible service 5/2/2009

After waiting 50 minutes for our food to arrive, had to give up and walk out. Regrettably, as we were both very hungry! Last straw was seeing another table served after having been seated 15 minutes prior. Several patrons seated, served and paid while we waited. Waitress was polite and very apologetic, but there comes a point when you just have to head for the exit... Impulse decision to drop in; won't likely come back anytime soon. Longtime local neighbor. more

Sunday Brunch Heaven 3/8/2009

I just died and woke up in Sunday brunch heaven. The angels at Circa in West Seattle served me the banana pancakes with pecan maple syrup and perfectly cooked bacon. My boyfriend had the chorizo scramble with coffee cake. About half way through the meal we both started giggling. I still have a huge smile on my face and a happy feeling in my belly. Seriously you guys...I think this was the BEST BRUNCH I've ever had. Oh, and when we asked the lovely waitress why the food coming out of their kitchen was SO good...she said: ""because it's made with love"". Hello?! Enough said, just go there. more

Great place, great food and great personality. 12/19/2008

Just had a terrific dinner at Circa last night. It's always hard to pick, there are a number of very strong selections. The meatloaf is unbeatable. I can highly recommend the steak also. Crab cakes are very good also. This is truly a neighborhood joint and I always feel comfortable hanging out and chatting with patrons and staff. One of the other patrons told me he thinks of it as the neighborhood ""Cheers"". I've met a number of very nice people and the staff is very attentive and friendly. There are now a lot of choices for dining in West Seattle, but I find myself going back to Circa again and again. They only serve wine and beer, I am voting for hard liquor to be added. But, the beer choices are far from ordinary and there are always a couple more exotic european choices that I have found to be very good. Pros: Great food, great service, great ambience Cons: No hard alcohol more

Neighborhood Gem 12/15/2008

I eat at Circa weekly if not more and love the servers there. Here's the problem, it's a neighborhood pub with really great food, not the Four Seasons. You pathetic whiners who want your butts licked up and down can f-off to whatever the ""hot"" new restaurant is, you nouveau rich pansies. None of the servers are underage and they all have a great rapport with the regulars and the place is constantly full. So take your whining about being served by people with a personality out of my neighborhood. more

Best comfort food in town 12/9/2008

I am really surprised to see bad reviews of Circa. My husband and I drive all the way from Edmonds for the delicious pub grub (bacon-wrapped meatloaf with demiglace and mashed potatoes, BBQ chicken salad, mmmm!), generous pours of well-priced wine (his favorite feature), and fun servers. Circa is always busy, and the girls are hauling butt around this little restaurant. Anytime they have made a mistake, I've been compensated with a drink or dessert, which is more than any other restaurant in town will do. Their chocolate layer cake is totally worth being served the wrong entree for! more

Terrible wait staff too much to endure 10/24/2008

The food is great but the service is atrocious! I agree with the person who made the comment about the immature waitresses. My friends and I still order to go some times and even the service when you go to pick up your food is TERRIBLE! So many restaurants work hard to ensure that the customer is happy so I am just amazed that the owner of this place allows his wait staff to be so inattentive, blatantly impolite and downright trashy. I never write reviews on city search but had to get this out there after 2 years of watching this place function like this. more

Immature Teenagers makes for a terrible wait staff 9/13/2008

The food is good, but if you're going to see your waitress eat dinner, talk on the phone, and fraternize with her (seemingly underage) friends while you're waiting for your order, is it really worth it? No. I think not. We had to ask to get napkins. That's how lousy the service is. more

lovely food and wine! 7/29/2008

\r I have been frequenting Circa on and off for the past 2 or so years and really love it! They have had a new chef for approx. a year, and her food is so good - her specials seem to take advantage of local and seasonal produce and fish that would rival anything you'd find in the downtown restaurants....and for half the price!\r The wine list is full of things you wouldn't normailly find at a neighborhood pub (no smoking loon or columbia crest here!) and at a great price! They also have great chalkboard wine specials and a nice amount of local and European beers.\r The service is personable and usually full of smiles...they can be bit sassy, but these women are busy and know how to work...especially at lunch! more

A great place to eat alone! 7/25/2008

I have been eating at Circa for years, and was shocked to hear all the negative service comments! Maybe the regulars get preference? In addition to moderately priced good food, I have always found the atmosphere to be friendly and gregarious. The staff and the customers are all delightful! Sitting alone at the bar and eating is a great pastime and interesting, intelligent conversation is guarenteed. Could it be that these comments come from a night I don't eat there? more

Good food and nice servers 4/9/2008

You can always count on a good meal here, with nice servers. The place is a little small and the servers have a lot of tables to wrangle at once, so sometimes you have to wait a bit, and even when you get seated, you still wait for service. Burgers and salads are fantastic, and they have a nice wine and beer selection. Good for when you have family in town and want to head to Alki area without the crowds. Decent prices for what you get, and generous portions. Pros: Nice servers, neighborhood feel Cons: no parking, very small restaurant venue more

service brings them down!!! food, location works 3/26/2008

circa is a neat little neighborhood restaurant. loved by many ws folks, however, i swear, it's like they put out employment ads asking for ""the meanest ladies of seattle to apply, no kind folks allowed""! how is it possible for a place to have so many rude waitresses. yikes! anyway, the men in the kitchen can throw down. love the grub and it's always on point, consistant. Pros: food, beer Cons: those mean and nasty waitresses, long wait for seating more

Not friendly 11/27/2007

Being new to West Seattle, I wanted to try another new restaurant, and I decided to try Circa. I had read the previous 18 reviews, and noticed 1/2 of them mentioned poor or someother style of service that was not positve. I walked in at 4:51 last Saturday not knowing that the restaurant did not open for another 9 minutes. What I was greeted by was a female and male server/bt? that initially said nothing. When I achnowledged that they did not open until 5:00, the male simply said,""yeah"". That was it. A better greeting could have been, ""we do not open until 5:00, but why don't you come in, (it was cold outside) and I can get you something to drink in the bar"". Instead, I left after the cold greeting, and went to Elliott Bay Brewpub, and had a great bite to eat, and very personal, friendly service. I may try Circa at another time, but these past reviews have obviously been written for a reason. more
