Editorial review from Citysearch 10/22/2012

So what your doc is cautious isn't he suppose to be? He has a MD license to protect and cares a lot about his patients-so much he won't rush the nervous parent. If its hard to schedule a Well visit it's beause you didnt schedule in advance. The important thing is the office will make sure sick kids get seen the same day they call and they are always professional and calm. If your wait is long it's because other visits went over (every office has this issue) and these Docs won't rush parents out if they go over time. Dr. Donnel and Dr. Clay-Flores makes sure to leave larger time slots per visit than most docs to make sure there is no rush factor. Im a Mother and nurse at a hospital and I am easily let down in healthcare but this place and staff are consistently TOP NOTCH! more

Our little boy is 5 months old and we 6/4/2012

Our little boy is 5 months old and we selected Dr. Donnel as our pediatrician before he was born (took a chance). He is AWESOME! Extremely knowledgeable and has a great answer for every question we have (even the dumb first-time parent ones). He actually shows compassion for our son and takes his time with him. The office is very clean and inviting. My only complaint about the practice is the wait time. It is quite long (45 minutes to an hour before you actually see the doc), but Dr. Donnel is well worth the wait! I would recommend Dr. Donnel to anyone. more

The Best! 1/8/2012

I feel obligated to write a review after seeing the negative ones. We have been going to Dr. Donnel for three years and he is amazing. Every time we go in for a well check he takes his time with the appointment. I never feel rushed in the least. I am constantly asked if I have any questions or concerns, we have a conversation about my child and it's just everything that I never thought a doctor would be. Sure, he is very cautious, but as a mother of four, how can I want anything less for my children?! We have experienced terrible wait times before, but the most recent time that happened was over a year ago and the doctor felt terrible for it and apologized profusely. Honestly, I enjoy the fact that he makes sure to take his time with me and I am sure he does the same for his other patients. I don't usually mind waiting and if you want a doctor that doesn't care and rushes you in and out as quickly as possible then perhaps this is not the office for you (I have been to those offices and I would take this one any day!) To avoid the waiting issues I schedule my appointments before 11am. I have never had to wait at all when I go before that time. If you are looking for a great doctor you have found him. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Donnel. more

overly cautious doctor, long wait times, 3/1/2010

God forbid you mention something and even answer your own question! You will be billed for an office visit instead of a well check just because you may have said, ""I didn't bring him in for this cold because I knew there was nothing that could be done about it"" cha ching, they are going to bill you for that comment. Also very overly cautious, if your child has a mosquito bite, a red flag will be raised. Had to wait an hour and half just to get the flu vaccine. They had no appointments for well checks until a month out. There is no real separation between well and sick children. Rude staff. I'm changing doctors after being on a downhill ride for the last two years. Very disappointed Pros: good circumsion Cons: long wait times, cant book well visit for a month, billing more

Ridiculous staff 11/6/2009

I expect great customer service whenever I step into a pediatricians office. I've been to other offices with great staff and this is not one of them. The pediatricians are great, they take thier time with the patient, cover all steps needed to improve conditions in easy to understand doctor lingo. Today, a clipboard was literally thrown to me so I could update demographics, then come to find out, there are no available flu shots, after being told 2 days prior that the vaccine would be available if we made appointment at that time. THEN, they wanted to charge a copay for the H1N1 shot, when my plans covers all cost, vaccine and administrative fees 100%. This staff member told me that she is going by what the insurance told her, I requested she speak to the rep. I was talking to and she outright refused. Needless to say, after the way I was treated, I left, without my son getting his shot. I called later and spoke to a ""supervisor"" after being told that there was none, but I was being persistant. This woman didn't want to hear me out. Kept interrupting me, doubting the poor customer service given, and once I asked her why she was a supervisor if she wasn't willing to hear what happened, she got defensive and said "" I am ending this phone call"" and hung-up. Are you serious? DON'T GO THERE, there are plenty of good Pediatricians in the area, where the service is much better. I have given this place 1 too many opportunities and today was the icing on the cake. I ended up getting my son a shot last minute at my daughters pediatricians office, only after hearing of my situtation at other office, they felt terrible. And it was cost free!...I'm kinda thinking that this office is scheming patients. I'm thinking that they booked the appt to get me in there knowing they had the H1N1 shot, but not the seasonal flu shot, knowing that would be a seperate appt, therefore....2 copays? Hmm...this isn't over yet until I speak to one of the doctors. I am sure they wouldn't be happy with this service. Pros: Good Pediatrician Cons: Poor Customer Service more

More Trouble than they are Worth 9/26/2009

From the first visit, when we moved 1+ yrs ago, I was sized up to see how many office visits they could get from me. My son takes medicine that without it he doesn't function. This requires an annual visit and a script picked up once a month. The monthly scripts have been a nightmare because they have repeatedly let my son run out even though I call 7+ days in advance. The final straw came when I had follow up behind them AGAIN and was told that they had to see him before they would write his script. I don?t respond well to my child's health being held for ransom so they can charge for an extra visit. He had been in for his annual visit 6 months ago. They said that didn?t count because they didn?t do the physical. My response was why didn't the doctor do whatever he had to do and why wasn?t I called about the problem with his script? Got their stock excuse of wrong phone# written down. They decided they would write the script if I set up an appt. Fine. Done right then. Late that night the nurse left a message saying they were not going to write him a script unless he set up an appointment. The right hand never knows what the left hand is doing with these people. If this was the first time I would have been ok but it has just been one long screw up with them. Pros: They get it right sometimes Cons: Unnecessary Visits & Horrible Staff more

Horrible Wait Times 9/15/2009

I just got home from this office and after almost 2 hours- I finally was able to get my daughter's flu shot. I am not sure what took so long to get a flu shot, but 2 hours is just unacceptable especially for a 2 1/2 year old. I do like both of the physicians, but just can not deal with the wait times anymore. This is also not my first experience with waiting so long in this office- something needs to be done! Sorry, but I will be finding another physician. Pros: The doctor's are very good Cons: WAIT TIMES more

The Best Pediatricians in the area 9/14/2009

We followed Dr. Clay-Flores from Tejas Pediatrics because he was literally the only doctor my son had seen that he felt comfortable with (he was 10 mnts old at the time in 2004). Now I have 3 boys, my oldest is 8yrs now and the youngest is 2 months. They have been seen by both Dr. Donnell and Dr. Clay Flores and I couldn't ask for better doctors. Pros: Wonderful Doctors more

Great Pediatrician, Horrible Office Staff 7/6/2009

This was originally a five star review after the first two months we were going to this office but now that we've been coming here for a year I definitely do not feel the same way. The office staff is so rude that next month's well visit will probably be our last at this office. The only reason we have stayed this long is because the Dr. and nurses are amazing but the staff has become way too much to handle. It seems like they are always having problems with their system and can never find any trace of our daughter. And even though our insurance changed almost a year ago at every single visit they tell me that the insurance they have on file has been canceled and every single time I have to update them. One time they even announced it out to the waiting room and asked how I was planning on paying for the visit with the entire waiting room listening in. I had read other reviews and couldn't understand why anyone would stop seeing a Dr. over his office staff but I get it now. What a shame. Pros: Wonderful with kids, Great Dr, and nurses Cons: Horrible staff more

Dr. Jose Clay-Flores is wonderful! 2/14/2009

Wow, everyone has a comment about the wait times!! Pros: great bedside manner, genuine care for patients Cons: wait time and high staff turnover more

too cautious and rude staff 1/26/2009

This office has the rudest office staff I have ever met! The Dr Donnell is nice, but my goodness he is over cautious. He makes me bring my child in for everything that I have a question about, and then there are HUGE wait times. I am a new mom and I don?t always know what the best route to go is for little issues like constipation etc, I don?t want to go in and wait for hours to find out what to do. Pros: spends time with child Cons: rude staff more

We love Dr. Donnel 6/24/2008

I have not experienced the wait times others have listed here. As with any doctor's office I have waited 20 - 30 minutes before. I think that is just the state of our health care industry today. I have had to visit many doctors for my own issues so am keenly aware that almost every doctor has bad wait times. Dr. Donnel is an excellent doctor. He does take his time, and is cautious, which I actually appreciate when it comes to my CHILD. He was not condescending nor rude when we decided to stop doing vaccinations for a while due to personal research. He has been supportive, caring and calm regardless of the situation. more

Great Doctors, but HUGE wait times 5/14/2008

I have seen both doctors here and they are both very nice. The downside is the very long office visits. I have never been out of there in less than 2 hours. Normally you are seen 1 hour after your apt. time and then expect to be in the room for another hour. I have to say the doctors spend a lot of time with you once you finally see them. Dr Donnel's nurses are very helpful and provided a lot of information. Pros: Kind Doctors Cons: Long wait more

Looking for a New Doc... 3/7/2008

The rude and careless office staff never fails to disappoint...I have experienced scheduling mishaps, extremely long wait times (1+ hour), and very poor customer service overall. As if this wasn't frustrating enough, Dr. Donnel insisted on discussing every aspect of my life and my daughter's life and offering unsolicited advice in a condescending manner. Pros: Convenient Location Cons: Long Wait Time, Terrible Office Staff more

Nice Doctor, poor office staff 12/17/2007

The doctors are really nice, however, they have the worse office staff ever. EVERY time I have had to take my kids in we have had to wait at least an hour past our appointment time. I had to wait two hours one time. For those of you with little kids you know this can be really hard, especially when they are sick. The office staff has also gotten our appointment time wrong causing us to have to reschedule. Dr. Donnel is nice. He takes his time with the kids... sometimes too much time. He seems a little over cautious- he told us not to take our perfectly healthy newborn out in public until he was older. I have two older kids and I that was the first time I had ever heard anything like that. Also, the waiting room is just one big room. I prefer a place where sick children are seperated from healthy ones. Pros: The doctor is nice. Cons: Very, Very, Very long wait time more

BEST PEDIATRICIAN IN SAN ANTONIO 12/29/2006

MY KIDS ARE NOT AFRAID OF GOING TO THE DOCTOR ANYMORE, THE CARE AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICE THAT WE GET FROM DR. DONNELL IS GREAT AND THE KIDS FEEL COMFORTABLE AROUND THE OFFICE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Pros: GOOD WITH THE KIDS Cons: SOMETIMES HAVE TO WAIT IN OFFICE more
