Went to the restaraunt for an anniversary dinner. The food was very good. The service was unsatisfactory. The person that took my order was not a waiter and confused me. It al...

Impeccable service 7/15/2007

Really like the charming, intimate ambiance and the excuisite entree offerings. Wine dinners are fun and educational with a real european flair. Souffles are almost magical and a must try. Pros: Unmatched in service, food quality and presentation more

Chez Nous 7/15/2007

Great Menu and Wine list!\r For family or business dinner, I have always brought guests for this unique combination of food, ambiance and great service. Staff at Chez Nous love what they do and you can tell from the moment you enter the restaurant. more

Best romantic restaurant 7/15/2007

The food is great but it is the service that makes this a special place. The waitstaff are there when you need or want anything but they do not intrude. You can linger over coffee while you talk and you will not be rushed, only asked if you want more coffee. Also, the staff remember you from previous visits.\r \r You should ask to join the email family asthis will get you some discounts. Although the prices are not unreasonable for this quality, I like to save a buck just like everyone else. Pros: Great quiet place for special occasions or business - exceptional service Cons: Very small parking lot but you can always find a spot on the street within a block more

Best French Restaurant 7/15/2007

CHEZ NOUS is more than a ""dessert"" or ""business dining"" place. It is an outstanding French restaurant which caters to all types of trade. A number of us are willing to drive from Champiosn to Humble just for the outstanding fare. We have celebrated birthdays and other important family events there.\r \r The service is EXCELLENT and the staff are both personable and knowledgeable. pfe/Houston Pros: Menu variety. Fresh ingredients. Truly exceptional service. Cons: Parking more

Rebuttal to Sniperpig 7/14/2007

I was a bit concerned by your name ""sniperpig"" when I read your review about Chez Nous --a favorite of mine for more than 15 years. I too have dined frequently in France, enjoy gourmet dining and have visited many Michelin Star restaurants--1, 2 & 3 stars. Discounting your name, I thought I might say, that if you only dined once at Chez Nous and the lamb chops were not up to your expectations, something was amiss that evening. I have at one time or another had everything on the menu, and have always had my expectations exceeded. I might add that when the restaurant was temporarily sold to another chef, I had one meal and knew something wasn't quite right. I think you should give Chez Nous another visit as those of us who dine there 6-12 times annually (all my friends feel the same as I) agree it is one of the finest restaurants in Houston. The Healds, Roths, Morminos, Peacocks, Simmons, Fordrees, Sprencels, Weavers ....and many others. Pros: impeccable service, gracious, hospitable, nice without being snooty Cons: are you kidding--none more

The best food in Houston! 4/30/2007

I took my wife to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and we were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in til the moment we left. We had the chef's table which came highly recommended by some work associates. We were blown away by not only the taste but also by the creativity and attention to every detail on the plate. For our dessert, the Chef prepared an incredible limoncello and blueberry souffle. The blueberry compote at the bottom was a great and tastey surprise! What a way to finish a meal. If that was not enough the Chef came out after the meal to wish us a happy anniversary. If you have not yet tried this ""hidden gem"", don't wait any longer! It is truly worth the drive! Pros: The food is absolutely incredible! more

Overpriced Romantic Experience 4/9/2007

Now dont get me wrong, Chez Nous is a great French Restaurant. Really, a hidden gem like everyone says. The service was great and the presentation was excellent. However, I've been to France, so I've experienced authentic French food first hand, and this did not meet my expectations. If you're going for a romantic setting, I recommend this location, but if you're just going for fine dining, then I would persuade you to reconsider. Maybe your experience will be better than mine, and I hope that it is!\r \r P.S. the lamb chops are not the best as Ive seen other people rave about.\r \r Pros: excellent service! Cons: food did not live up to all the hype more

Best special event dining in Houston area 1/25/2007

My wife and I recently dined at Chez Nous for the first time for her birthday. The attentiveness of their staff and their attention to detail was excellent from the moment I phoned in our reservation, till they bid us farewell for the evening as we left their very quaint restaurant. \r \r The menu has a well rounded collection of traditional French dishes and some other choices as well. Their wine cellar is more than adequate. Their daily specials are available to review from their website, which includes a nice variety of current in season dishes that build on and extend on the kitchen's well established French cooking style. \r \r Menu prices were very reasonable. You will not find a ""$0.99 menu"", but in comparison with other fine dining locations their menu pricing is conservative and the ample portions are prepared with only high-quality ingredients. Our main entrees included their Salmon and Steak au Poivre, both of which were very tender. The salmon was fresh and extremely delicious. My wife stated it was, ""the best salmon dish I have ever had.""\r \r During the reservation and unprompted, they did inquire whether we were celebrating a special event and took note of the correct spelling of her name. After we had finished our dinner and desert came, it was personalized.\r \r Unlike some of Houston?s other well known fine dining establishments, Chez Nous is an unassuming option. Even if you are not a regular or have notoriety status you will still receive cordial yet welcoming and sincere service from their warm and inviting professional staff.\r \r We will definitely be returning for another dining experience.\r Pros: Service, Ambience, Food quality Cons: ?, street parking more

Unbelievable French Cooking - in Humble! 8/30/2006

I have lived in Houston for 3 months so I consider myself lucky to have found Chez Nous so quickly. I must say that this was by far the best meal I have had in Houston - period - and bar none the best French cooking I have had since France. The atmosphere was wonderful, I cannot even begin to find the adjectives to describe the incredible cuisine and the service was impeccable - although I found an escort to the ladies room odd, I none-the-less was enthralled. I have never sampled such incredible fare for such a reasonable prices as well - I appreciate that fact - great cuisine does not have to be outrageously priced. Don't let the 4 $$$$ fool you - it is affordable so don't stay away because of that. This is my new found treat! Pros: Everything Cons: Parking was a bit tight but who cares, a little walk gets off the calories..... more

""Heart smart"" cooking, if need be. 8/5/2006

I want to say something about the atmosphere. It transforms me to a quaint little village in France. I understand that they grow their own herbs, which must partly account for the unparalled taste of everything. The service, from the moment you enter the door, makes me feel right at home. But, the real reason reason I visited was the food, and it was wonderful. A truly elegant dining experience. Most of all, I like the seafood dishes. Chef Stacy always accomodates my ""heart smart"" needs, without sacrificing the culunary traditions of France . Pros: Food doesn't get any better Cons: There just aren't any more

True Dining 7/23/2006

Chez Nous re-establishes the experience of true dining, which has proven to be a rare quality. The quaint house and former church serves as the perfect, tranquil setting. Keep in mind when you receive the bill that youre paying for more than a meal but rather la creme de la creme. Not to mention youre treated as royalty and yet not bothered by employees. In conclusion, this trip is worth the money, and then some. Pros: Everything Cons: N/A more

Superb! 7/17/2006

Last Tuesday was our fourth visit in three months to this wonderful restaurant and once again it was well worth the drive from sugarland. Chez Nous has the ability to take the dining experience and raise it to the level of entertainment by combining superb cuisine, quietly efficient service and a comfortable athmosphere with great attention to details. I do not remember mentioning that it was my niece's birthday when making the reservation but I must have because at dessert time Jodie was presented with a beautiful taster's plate inscribed in chocolate and in correct French ""Joyeux anniversaire Jodie"". We lived in Boston, a grest restaurant city for many years but believe me; they do not have anything like Chez Nous!\r Thank you Chez Nous, in an age of mediocrity excellence is alive and well in Houston-Humble.\r Claire Durochat Pros: great all around, food, service Cons: not near where I live more

Best overall dining experience in the Greater Houston Area 7/17/2006

Chez Nous not only has great food & service, but is a complete dining experience that leaves you with a completely satisfied feeling. First you are greeted and treated as though you were someone very special. The service was not only a joy to receive, but a joy to watch. All of the service people moved like they had been choreographed and no customer went unattended to. It seemed they knew when you needed or wanted something before you asked. The food was outstanding and the presentation was a thing of beauty. The excellent deserts were presented in a manner that making a choice was a difficult pleasure. While dining Chef Stacy came out and visited with customers to insure complete satisfaction. After completing the wonderful meal we were asked several times if we needed anything else. There was no rush to get us out of the restaurant, which was refreshing and showed a touch of class. I highly recommend Chez Nous as the complete dining experience. No matter where you live in the Greater Houston Area the satisfying experience is well worth the drive. My drive was 35 miles one way and I will be back. Pros: The complete dining experience more

Parisian quality at ""Humble"" prices 7/14/2006

If you have not visited Chez Nous, you are missing a chance of a lifetime. Authentic french food, wine, fanfare, tradition, and true respect and presentation of the art of dining. All this without crossing the ocean. The last wine appreciation dinner that I attended was resplendent with an amazing six course meal with specially selected wines. During each taste, I had to focus on moving the food, as well as the wine gently in my mouth to appreciate all of the chef's subtle efforts for my pleasure. Also, Scott's wine narration was the most detailed and knowledgeable I have ever heard. If you miss the wine dinners, you will love the chef's choice menus. Danielle (chef Gerard's daughter) is an angel in the dining room, and always makes you feel like royalty. The chateaubriand is a masterpiece if beef is your pleasure. If you are looking to impress business associates or that one someone you love...this is the place. I have had many successful recruting dinners here in the private rooms, and also was given my engagement ring at an intimate corner table in the main dining room. I said yes!\r \r The desserts make your heart sore. The chocolate basket is a family favorite. The chefs demonstrate time and again the virtues of local growers, so if you are avoiding french food because of political reasons, you are actually harming our local Texas food artisans. You will taste the difference that a fine chef can make with even the most simple vegetables, such as the exquisite fresh beets. This is one time where you really should, ""eat your vegies"". Come to Chez Nous planning on an evening of gastronomic pampering.\r \r How do you keep them down on the farm, after they've seen Paris? Take a trip to Chez Nous! Chefs Gerard and Stacy will show you how.\r Pros: Ambience, Very impressive dining experience more

Delicious French food served in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. 7/10/2006

Chez Nous serves fresh seafood entries and homemade soup (often a hot cold selection) daily. We love their rolls, which are served warm with soft butter; and their duck mousse pate delightful. I had their tomato salad, which was locally grown delicious. My wife got their shrimp Provencale, which is shrimp sauteed with garlic and herbs she got hooked first time that she had it. I thoroughly enjoy the fresh seafood dishes - halibut, salmon, mahi mahi, red snapper a treat for the taste buds because their accompaniments consist of fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables which are artfully combined yummy! They treat you great and the food is wonderful. It is definitely worth the drive. more

Anniversary or Valentine's Day - You can't beat Chez Nous for romance! 7/6/2006

After 25 years of marriage - I hope I have learned a thing or two about the 'opposite gender'.\r One is that romantic dining goes a long way toward putting your mouth where your ... er .. mouth is .. ha! Saying you love your wife is one thing - proving it with an evening of romance and gastronomic delight is another. This romantic play is presented in several acts - the first act of love is just getting the reservation, followed by getting decently dressed for a change, escorting your blushing bride in the family chariot, and then experiencing the candlelight, the aroma, the service, and the exquisite food offerings together. Believe me when I say - the final curtain call is worth it all! Not to mention you have had a great time yourself (but we don't have to let them know that guys - they can just believe it is another of our Herculean labors of love - ha). My wife and I have been to Paris many times - but it is much nicer to have Chez Nous in your own city. My highest compliments and remarks are always saved for Chez Nous among my friends and family. Pros: Food variety and taste Cons: Popular - get reservations in advance for special occasions more

Best dining experience ever! 7/1/2006

My boyfriend and I went to Chez Nous for our anniversary and it was the most incerdibel dining experience we have ever shared. We chose to do the Chefs Table and it was a choice that we did not go wrong with. For $55 a person we got a five cousre WONDERFUL planned out menu by the Chef. Each course was a surpise. When we were eating our final course which was a wonderful raspberry and passion fruit souffle the waiter brought us a fruit compote with ""happy anniversary"" written in choclate and in french!!! After that we each got a comp. glass of Champaigne!! WOW this could not have been more special. The staff there is excellent and the food was to die for!! Pros: very cozy more

A cut above the rest! 6/21/2006

Superb cuisine, very good service, consistent, cosy and hidden. This restaurant keeps getting better and is well worth the 18 minutes drive (from the convention center). Executive Chef Stacy Crowe's flawless execution of both classic and inovative French Cuisine is exceptional. She is is a rising star and we will hear from her. Dining room manager Scott Simonson cannot do enough for you and is supported by a handsome and capable cast of servers. I love this place, it has never disapointed me and is worth every penny!\r Ziggybus Pros: Food, service, atmosphere Cons: have to drive 20 minutes but worth it more

A WoW Occassion 4/29/2006

Looking for a WOW occassion this is the place to go. Magnificant in every respect. It has become our number one intimate restaurant for fine dining and wonderful service. La Franchais in Wheeling is one of the world's classic french restaurants and Chez Nous is the best Country French. Pros: Food presentation, Excellance of Service, Charming decor Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

Great for a classic French chef's dinner 2/24/2006

Please visit if you would like to have a beautiful and classic chef's dinner! Yes, some of the food is kinda crazy - foie gras, terrines, the usual French staples that we normally don't have on a daily basis. But the service is great and everything tastes good. My husband and I went for an anniversary and it was a great experience. As someone else mentioned, watch out for wine by the glass - I got charged $9 for a glass of wine that I know can be bought at the store for $10 - $12. But oh well, that's just how it is at fancy restaurants. Regardless, I loved my dinner there!!! more
