CWA says that it's priority is doing what is best for the cat. This is not true, however, because they will mark a cat as ready for adoption before the cat's medical issues have ...

Horible places! 6/21/2013

DO NOT go to CHS..they were the most horrible people, they did not care about my dying cat and I didn't have much money, all they cared about was the almighty dollar and my cat suffered and died right in front of me! I never cried so hard in my life!! Cat Welfare wasn't any better they all want money before they will even think of bringing in your cat...the only answer i got from CHS, OSU, MedVet and Capitol was "sorry to hear that" more

Please support Cat Welfare 7/25/2010

The staff at Cat Welfare are the best! They truly care about the welfare of the cats. The volunteers are very devoted and reliable. It is a shame that there is such an overpopulation of cats today. However, Cat Welfare is the best resource we have in Columbus to help. They are always in need of assistance (cat food, litter, monetary donations etc). I will continue to do my part to help this wonderful organization. I just wish I could do more! Pros: Very caring and compasionate Cons: None more

Just to clarify.. 7/18/2010

Do Not Get Your Cat From This Shelter\r amylee101 \r I love cats and currently own one cat and foster regularly. However, I do not recommend getting your cat from this shelter. Try CHA or Pets Without Parents instead (the one other shelter to adopt a cat in Columbus is the Humane Society and I don't recommend them just because they are crowded, unfriendly, and it is difficult to see all the cats and play with them to decide which you want to adopt).\r \r This shelter goes against what every other shelter holds as the golden rule. You can't let someone take a cat home if it can still make babies! That is the point. We wouln't need shelters if stray cats (born stray or left to roam outdoors by owners) weren't out there proliferating.\r \r This shelter gets away with the shody practice by saying they don't spay/neuter until 6 months, and they will send you a reminder in the mail. Of course they never sent me a reminder! Why would they? They can pocket the extra money from the adoption fee and more

Great Place 2/24/2008

Cat Welfare is a wonderful no kill organization. They care for almost 200 cats sick or healthy. The cats either have clean cages or wander on the floor and play with toys. They help cats and kittens get adopted or if they are not adopted, the cats are cared for at Cat Welfare their entire lives. No cat is ever put to sleep just to make room. Help Cat Welfare care for all these cats by making a donation today, or even consider vollunteering there. more

Wonderful cats, caring staff and volunteers, excellent community service 5/22/2007

Cat Welfare has been around for years and years and after visiting to check out the facility and their adoption criteria, we decided to adopt an adult cat that had been injured by a car and had lost all his teeth. We took to him immediately and he turned out to be the sweetest pet ever. Cat Welfare had received the cat from someone who brought him in after the accident. They had a vet see to his injuries and they tenderly took care of him, bringing him back to health and even neutered him. He had all his tests and shots and was clean. He was in a very clean cage with his own litterbox and food and water. He even had a handmade crochet blanket that they said volunteers made and donated to the shelter. Cat Welfare also had dozens and dozens of cats living outside of cages and wandering around, playing, or sleeping throughout the shelter. Their policy is that if a cat is not adopted or is found to be unadoptable, the cat will spend the remainder of it's life at their shelter with continued vet and loving care. How awesome is that?! We now have a family membership with Cat Welfare and will forevermore go to them for our furry little angels and recommend them to anyone looking for a cat...either adult or kitten. They are truly worth their weight in gold. Pros: Clean, thorough vet examinations, inexpensive, spay & neutered, loving facility and care. more

This is the best place to find a wonderful friend 9/4/2005

My sister introduced me to cat welfare, where I got my adorable kitten Boo. This place is dependent on donations, both monetary and physical (food, toys, litter, etc). It's a no-kill facility, so any cat that isn't adopted simply makes its home permanently at the shelter. Kittens run about $70, but it's well worth it because that includes all shots, tests for diseases, and when the kitten is old enough, spaying or neutering. Older cats cost less, but need your love even more. When you walk in, most of the cats are roaming around or sleeping in the sun. I go in often simply to visit with the cats and give them a little love. Don't go to the pet store when you can get an adorable, and affordable cat at Cat Welfare! It's worth the trip!! PROS: CONS: A little hard to find, but make the effort! more

Adopt here! 7/31/2005

I cannot say enough about these wonderful people! This is one of my favorite places in the whole world! All 4 of our kitties came from Cat welfare! This no-kill shelter is a refuge for Columbus' cats! I love to just go and visit the kitties and pet them. ONe special thing about this place is that they have a long term care facility for sick and injured cats to live out their days. Complete with a sun porch! Please consider adopting from here!!!! more

A wonderful place to adopt a cat! 6/9/2005

I have adopted two cats from this shelter. They are a wonderful shelter with very nice employees/volunteers. The cats are well cared for and the place is always clean. They even gave one of my cats a free dental before I adopted him. They are a NO KILL shelter. Some cats have been there over ten years! Give them a try if you are looking to adopt. PROS: They keep their cats healthy! CONS: more

Owner Message
  • The Cat Welfare Association was founded in 1945 by a small group of people who saw the need for an organization designed specifically to help the many stray and abused cats in the Columbus area. We are a non-profit organization that's objective has always been to promote better care and understanding of cats while providing for the physical welfare of homeless cats and kittens. The cats taken into our care are strays and frequently have been abused or injured. We give them plenty of tender loving care along with any necessary medical treatment they might need. Our shelter provides a home for these cats and kittens until they are adopted-- whether it be for a short time or if they live out the rest of their lives in our shelter.
