If I could give no star, I would. They won't allow you to adopt a kitten unless you adopt two, however you may adopt only one adult cat. I went in with my husband and was pleased to see many adorable kittens, however, someone soon informed me that I would have to either take an adult cat or two kittens, because kittens require so much attention that they wouldn't let them be adopted by themselves. The workers were rude and condescending. They patiently informed me that ""Kittens grow up to be cats, you know."" Thanks. Fortunately, I found the world's most adorable 12-week-old tortie at Petsmart. One year later, she is spoiled, receives a ton of attention, and is one of the sweetest kitties around. I don't think she'd be better off had we gotten two -- there is lots of research that suggests that domestic cats are not made to be social or pack animals and there fore do not prefer having another feline in the home. Shopping there was an incredibly frustrating experience. more

Apparently Kelly Harlan's ""friend"" either lied to her or Kelly is not telling the truth. I currently have 7 cats that were adopted from The Cat Shoppe. I have had over 15 years of first hand experience adopting cats from there. I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. Before you adopt a cat, you are given a 4 page contract to carefully read, fill out, and sign. It out-lines how the cats are to be cared for. So that there is no misunderstanding as to what is required to adopt a cat, each section is also to be initialed by the adopter. The section on declawing says, ""Under no circumstances will this cat be declawed,"" and the section on fines says, ""Monetary damages to The Cat Shoppe will be actual damages as presented by The Cat Shoppe or the sum of $500.00 (per cat) at the sole discretion of The Cat Shoppe."" Why would someone sign a contract, not live up to what they had contractually agreed to do, and then write bad reviews about the charity because they were made to fulfill the terms of the contract? Fortunately, most of the adopters are honest, ethical, and moral people. Occasionally there are some that are not. more

DO NOT GO HERE! \r My friend adopted two kittens from The Cat Shoppe. After adopting them found out they had fleas and worms. She footed the bill and made sure to take care of them but also made sure to call The Cat Shoppe to inform them of this so they could check the other cats and the owner sounded like she could care less. \r Also, they make house calls on you to check on the cats! Seven months after adopting them, one of the employees called her to ask if she could come see one of the cats because she had fostered them and wasn't there to say goodbye when they were adopted. Said it was not a house call or inspection. The lady then came into her home and basically told my friend she was raising the cats completely wrong saying the food she was feeding them was bad and even went so far as to say the name she gave one of the cats was dumb.\r After the lady found out the kittens had been declawed she became very very angry and my friend was scared for her and her cats. Last week she got a letter demanding $1000 ($500 per cat) in damages to the Cat Shoppe because she declawed the cats. \r This has taught me never to go to an adoption center like this, and to never let anybody in my house from a place I adopt them from. more

Aloof Owner 3/10/2012

This is a pretty cool place and a lot of rescued kitties are all around. The first lady I met was Robyn and she was super nice and friendly. The owner Chris was very aloof and to busy selling stuff to be much interested in much else. It is quite obvious that she is very protective of all the cats, as she really does not want any of them to be adopted. Very negative about if you have other animals and definitely does not like dogs. If you are wanting to adopt, I would suggest going elsewhere. Cool shop thought. more

Love this place! 1/17/2012

I?ve been going to the Cat Shoppe for several years now and enjoy each and every visit. I?m always greeted with a warm hello when I enter the door. The owner is very helpful with any questions I have and the prices on premium cat food are better than anywhere else in the city. I sometimes go just to play with the kittens that are up for adoption and never feel rushed or like I need to buy something to stay. It?s a great place for all your cat needs and just so your dog doesn?t feel left out, there?s a dog store next door. Overall, a really cool place to visit! more

I LOVE THE CAT SHOPPE 11/19/2011

The Cat Shoppe is the closest thing to Cat Heaven that I have ever seen. It's a Cats R Us for toys, there's a veritable smorgasbord of the best cat foods on the planet, and you can live and wear your love of cats with the selection of boutiquey items in abundance there. If you need a gift for a cat loving friend, you can find it. And not only can you fill a shopping bag (or two, or three), but you have also found a place where you can fill your heart. There are cats there. Not cats in a row of cages, but cats living there, homestyle. And they have stories. Sometimes the stories are written down and you can read them, sometimes they're told to you. A beautiful purebred cat whose owners had it declawed and then didn't want it anymore. A kitten with a very tiny limp whose leg was originally mangled by a car but was brought back to life by physical (and emotional) therapy right there at the Cat Shoppe. There's a jar where you can donate, it's a 501c3 charity, and I always do, even if just a little, because I know little bits add up. You can see your money at work there. And the stories have happy endings, because the cats are for adoption, and when you hear that one has found a perfect forever home, you come away feeling much better than you usually feel at the end of a shopping experience. They obviously cannot save every homeless kitty in the world. But they certainly do their part. And they don't have to. They could just sell the stuff. The very, very good stuff. Shop at the Cat Shoppe. No buyer's remorse. Ever. more

Great Shoppe/Great Owner 11/19/2011

I am originally from Nashville and every time I return, I always make a special trip to The Cat Shoppe to stock up on all my cat needs! Chris, the owner, does a wonderful job finding the best cat gifts. I could browse forever! But more importantly, I shop there for the welfare of my cats. After talking with her several times, I know that she only sells the best food for my cats. I trust her judgment and need her guidance as I don't have time to do all the research myself, and I only want to feed my cats the best. I find her prices to be very reasonable. It is so refreshing to go to a shop that is not all about making the buck. Her store is abundant with cats that she has rescued that need homes. I highly recommend this store for cat food, litter, and gifts! Please don't forget that there are lots of cats and kittens in her shop that need homes too! more

rose nilen's misinformed review of 'the cat shoppe' 11/14/2011

rose nilen is obviously a cat lover. she is also terribly wrong about the cat shoppe and it's owner - chris. chris is currently selling a home to subsidize her tireless efforts on behalf of homeless and abused animals. there is not another person in nashville tennessee who cares more or works harder to rescue and nurture abandoned and frightened cats. one person can only do so much. no one can rescue all the poor cats in this city. not even chris. if she could she would. rose should go back to the cat shoppe and get her facts straight and then write a retraction. no one loves cats more than chris - and no one suffers more at the thought of taking them to the pound. if rose knew what chris does for cats she would cry at the way she treated her in print. chris is like a mother teresa for cats. more

CAT OWNERS BEWARE 10/31/2011

If you visit this store beware of making any donations towards any type of rescue fund. I went to this store a while back because i was told they did animal rescue. What troubled me right off was a sign on the door saying they euthanize animals. When i questioned the owner about the sign i was told that people leave cats there at night and they have to track them down and prosecute them. Now correct me if im wrong but isnt that what animal rescue is all about. If someone can not take care of an animal or finds one lost would you not want that person to bring it to a safe place. The sign states that all animals left there are taken and killed. Now the longer i talked to this woman named Chris she went into this rant about coyote's catching and ripping cats apart and the city was full of unwanted cats and that she had just finished a ""roundup""at a KFC, Firestone store and Baileys in Antioch and that she had trapped and put down 27 cats from KFC because they were feral , 4 from Firestone and 8 from Baileys. Now i dont know about the rest of you out there but when a store owner is bragging about killing 39 cats and they were better off, that does not sound like much of a rescue to me. Im not contributing money to a rescue fund so my money can be used to kill animals. more

Cats (& their wellbing) rule at the Cat Shoppe 6/19/2011

I love, love, love Chris and the other Cat Shoppe staff. If you take the attitude of cat adoption = retail transaction, then I guess they could seem ""pushy and rude,"" to quote other reviews. But, simply put, the Cat Shoppe is CAT-centered. Their priority in cat adoption isn't ringing up the sale for whatever the human customer wants, but rather ensuring the best possible forever home for these kittens and cats (most of whom have been through enough already). more

Great store, if you follow the rules! 10/16/2010

The Cat Shoppe is in a convenient location and has great hours for an independent pet supply store (they're open on Sunday!). The woman who is usually at the cash register is a bit odd but charming. She looked at me with dagger eyes the first few times I forgot my checkbook and wanted to pay with Visa (they are pretty clear, what with posted signs and all, that they *accept* cards but don't *like* them. Sheesh.). In the end, though, they have totally reasonable prices and a fantastic selection. And she really is helpful, and she knows pretty much everything she needs to know in order to help you take care of your cat. Just don't try to pay with a credit card. Or mention that you used to feed Iams to your cat, before you knew better. Or pick up the kittens in the store. Or play with them. Then it's no soup for you. ;) more

Great Place to Adopt a Cat 7/17/2010

We adopted a teenage orange and white (tabby) male named Conan O'Brien last September. This is our first cat as a married couple and we couldn't be happier. He is so sweet. He came litter box trained and adjusted well to our house right away. He came to the Cat Shoppe after someone found him outside of Walgreens. He was fostered for two weeks and then brought to the Cat Shoppe for adoption. Chris, the owner knows a lot about cats and is very helpful matching the right cat to the right owner. She called us about two weeks after we adopted Conan and had a black Cat that had been Conan's friend up for adoption. My husband went and met the cat, but we ultimately decided he was not a good fit. We were not pressured and Chris was very gracious about the whole thing. We are still happy with the whole process and would highly recommend getting your forever friend from the Cat Shoppe. Pros: Chris the owner is very knowledgeable, no cages more

one of the best pet stores anywhere 5/31/2010

i was lucky enough to be able to go to the ""Cat Shoppe"" many times, about a decade ago. since then i have lived in cities much larger than nahville, and still not found as great of a cat-centric store as the ""Cat Shoppe."" When i leave a metro area i miss many things about it, shopping, food, people, etc. . the ""Cat Shoppe"" is one of those things i miss about nashville. i hope your location fared well in the recent flooding. Pros: adoptable cats, great cat food, toys, and accessories Cons: the only con is it's on nashville, and i'm not close enough more

Dissatisfied customer 3/13/2010

I visited the store after finding out about it on the internet. I decided to take a trip to the store to check it out, since I live not far away. When I went there, I was surprised by the cold treatment that greeted me. I was expecting that, being that it is a store that loves pets, I would be treated with welcome and warmth, but this was not the case. Instead, I left the store feeling extremely uncomfortable and feeling as though I was a bad person and not good enough to even adopt one of the cats that I showed interest in. I was even deterred from adopting the cat with a whole bunch of nonsensical excuses. I left out of the store being happy to have seen the cats and have to say that they are the best part of the entire store. They are warm and adorable. Those who run the store, however, are not as kind. I have no idea if I will ever visit that place again. It just didn't feel right, not right at all. Pros: Cats and products at store Cons: Bad service and rude behavior of people who run the store more

Francois... 3/12/2010

In January 2009, we adopted our boy, ""Francois"". He was a shy Tuxedo...slim by my some standards. One year later he's no longer ""shy"" and he is the LOVE of our lives. He now weighs almost 17 lbs. Pros: Friendly, helpful, giving...true animal lovers more

devoted,selflless, owner 1/9/2010

Chris is very devoted to helping homeless cats and kittens and spends much time and money insuring that they will be healthy and taken good care of.She may come accross a little stirck but she has seen and heard many sad and cruel stories of how people neglected their animals. She means the best and her heart is in the right place. When you go to this shoppe you are helping countless other pets, not only your own. Pros: provides homes to homless rescued cats and kittens more

Quite dissapointed. 9/21/2009

I went into the Cat Shoppe with my mother back a few days ago in hopes to find a new kitten to take back home with us. Our first impression of the cat shoppe was a great one because there were tons of adorable little kittens running around the store, so many unique looking cats to choose from. We got very excited when we found the cutest little hairy brown kitten which we fell in love with. When we approached the lady behind the counter she informed us that they do not allow you to only adopt one cat, you must adopt 2 or more (according to the cat shoppe employee, kittens do not do well on their own. I certainly beg to differ, having owned cats in the past I find that they enjoy being on their own and when there are 2 or more together, they begin to get a bit territorial.) My mother was certainly not fond of the idea of having to adopt one extra kitten on account of that was not her original plan, but after a few minutes of thinking and getting used to the idea, we picked out a second kitten that we were very fond of as well ( a beautiful siamese with bright blue eyes). Unfortunately the lady who adopted out the kittens was out on vacation for that week, and we weren't able to take any of the kittens home with us that day. (another negative) So, we left our name and phone number so they could get in touch with us once the kittens were available for adoption. Today, we received a phone call from the cat shoppe to inform us that the little brown kitten we were interested in was ready to be adopted, under the condition that we adopt his sister, a brown and orange calico. We were starting to get very frustrated because not only do we need to adopt 2 kittens, but we were being pushed into adopting a cat that we were not interested in. My mother tried to reason with the woman on the phone, but she came up with every excuse in the book as to why we MUST adopt the brown kittens sister and not the 2nd original kitten we had already chosen. By the end of the telephone conversation the cat shoppe employee told my mother she would call back tomorrow to let us know the final verdict as to whether or not we can adopt the 2 cats of OUR choice. Although the cat shoppe has a wonderful selection of cats and kittens to choose from, be careful and do not get your hopes up because the pushy staff will probably end up choosing which cats you will be adopting for you, don't let the wide variety fool you. Pros: Beautiful cats Cons: Pushy staff with a rude attitude. more

Best pet store in town 9/2/2009

I really don't understand the last review at all. I've been shopping at the Cat Shoppe for years - at least five or six years, and I've never had a bad experience with anyone who works there. Not once. The comment about anyone there insulting dog owners doesn't even make any sense - the owner also owns the attached Dog Store and everyone I've talked to there loves dogs. I have one dog and two cats and wouldn't buy their food anywhere else. It's the only place in town that I know of that carries the premium food that I feed my pets. I like that they don't carry any of the crappy food that the chain pet stores carry. And I LOVE that they rescue and find homes for cats. I'm glad that they carefully screen potential adopters because it's important that you don't place a cat with just anyone. If you have a cat, you definitely have to go here - you'll love it. And if you have a dog, make sure you check out the sister store behind the glass door. Everyone in both stores is very nice and helpful and you'll be glad you went. Pros: Local, Nice knowledgeable people, cats everywhere Cons: Smell more
