More about money than dental care 2/19/2008

I went to the Castle Dental on 41st street because it was on my dental plan. All I needed was a basic cleaning. When I got there, they took X-rays because it was my first visit then proceeded to tell me that the hygenist was out...the very reason I was there in the first place because I get regular checkups. Dr. Scott Berry was nice, but after awhile I got irritated with his jokes that my teeth were so good that he couldn't get more money out of me. It turned out that wasn't much of a joke. He wanted me to go through an unnecessary procedure to the tune of almost $400, even with insurance. Needless to say, I cancelled the appointment for that procedure and I still have yet to get my teeth cleaned. Avoid Castle Dental. It's a dental factory rather than a dental facility. I give them one star because this site doesn't allow a no star review. more

really horrible experiance 1/1/2008

I went into castle dental on E 41st to get a crown and I have to say it was truly horrifying. The price of the crown after insurance was unreasonably high compared to other dentists I have since researched. The dental assistants were definitely not the most competent. A mold was put in my mouth when it was too warm, they had me laying down, and it dripped down my throat. Then the dental assistant made it seem like it was somehow my fault! more

Find another dental office 11/19/2007

I went to Castle Dental on South Lamar. They are listed on our dental plan and the office was near our home. After my initial visit and X-rays, I waited weeks to hear from the office regarding my treatment. I finally went back to the office and was told that the dentist was not longer with Castle and my file had been left sitting on her desk (for 2 months). The office is run-down looking and the windows are dirty. There was a dead bug on the floor. There was one receptionist that was very helpful. I didn't get her name (twenty something, long dark hair) She deserves credit. She assured me that she would follow up. She did call me back, but when I went to pick up my estimate, she was not there. This time the receptionist didn't even turn around from her computer. She told me there were people ahead of me and I should take a seat. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. more

Unprompted Hostility and Unprofessionalism 11/7/2007

This is my first online review of any entity, ever. Was it not for Tracy (a hygienist), I'd give 4 stars on this first visit. Dr Gillette and staff were all warm, considerate, efficient, and really put me at ease. I was relieved to be having such a fine time. This made Tracy's behavior especially jarring and unexpected. Was I warned, I would know that "exam" involves inserting sharp metal between gum and tooth to take a measurement. Most people are naturally uncomfortable in a dentist's chair, and it's difficult to resist the flinch reflex sudden tooth pain elicits. No problem. But I wasn't warned and so the instant sharp pain came as a surprise. I asked her (in good humor) to wait a second, what she would be doing. From there it went downhill. She lost her temper with that innocent and politely-delivered question! Instead of pulling back a little, she kept aggressively stabbing away as if the building was on fire, irritated. She was in a frantic hurry, but it was clearly not for my benefit. A couple of times she even threw up her hands and took off her mask, as if I was absolutely intolerable, rudely said "we have to stop, I can't do this!" She remained aggressive, inconsiderate, super-rushed -- even accusatory! If she was having a bad day, and had just said so, I would have understood. From what I could tell, though, her abrasive personality was congenital. I'm always an accommodating patient/ patron -- I know that the more helpful I am, the better the experience for BOTH me and the provider. I've always just informed whoever's working me of my sensitive spots so they know where to be more cautious. For god's sake, that never offended anyone. I've seen a Dentist virtually annually since I grew teeth. I've never had congeniality met with such unprompted hostility and unprofessionalism. Pros: The rest of the staff is wonderful. Cons: Tracy may remain employed there. more

DO NOT GO!!!!!!!!!! 11/4/2007

With my insurance I don't have many choices so I chose Castle Dental. Well, I ended up needing to have my cavities filled. I went to sit in the seat and they just started coming at me with shots and I didn't even know what was going on...NO explanation on what to expect or what they were doing...they just did it! The first shot I was given just leaked out of the syringe and all into my mouth. The others were so painful! It was a whirl-wind I didn't know what was happening. THEN the dental assistant proceeded to tell me that the oral surgeon at CASTLE DENTAL had just taken out her wisdom teeth and she felt everything. (I'm suppose to have mine taken out there too) That didn't make me feel to good! SO right now it's been 2 weeks since the fillings and the last couple of days it hurts to eat..I think my fillings came out! So what I am saying is don't go there! I am upgrading my insurance to choose who I want to go with it's worth it! more

Unnecesary treatments 10/24/2007

I had to go as an emergency to the center located in Ben White, close to Central Market. They helped me with the crown that I needed to be repalced, but after two months, I had to have it replaced again at other dentist's office. That crown was too big, out of shape, and with a huge gap between the gum and the crown, which made it easy for food to get trapped in there, which might have lead to a bigger damage. On top of that, the dentist came up with a diagnostic for the other teeth that went up to $800 after insurance paid. After going to get a second and third opinion, none of what was written on that diagnostic seemed to be neeeded. more

I tried calling for an appointment- after calling on and off all day I finally gave up. Are they still open for business? If no one answers the phone then business cannot be conducted. I also treid their website address castledental.com and the page was nto availble. Nor was it available to send them an email about this comment. more

ok for a dentist office 7/9/2006

I didn't like the idea that Castle Dental Center is a chain, as I have always frequented smaller dental practices and been happy with those. However, the two times I needed to visit Castle, it was very easy to make an appointment and I was able to see a dentist soon. Both the hygenists and dentists were very friendly and gentle, and the office staff was efficient. I would recommend Castle for people who don't have a regular dentist. PROS: easy scheduling CONS: more

Dentist 3/17/2006

I recently needed to get two crowns for my teeth. I was able to call in here and get an appointment in just two days time. On the day of my appointment they saw me on time and had me ready and in the chair within minutes of showing up. The staff was very nice and professional. The room, chair, and all the instruments and tools were clean. The dentist had to give me several shots in my mouth and was SO gental! Normally those shots really hurt, but I hardly felt these. They made impressions of my teeth for my crowns and made me temporary crowns right there on the spot. My crowns were ready in 3 weeks and they were beautiful. It was a wonderful experience as far as having to go to a dentist goes. more

Fairly quick and easy 11/29/2005

Both my 8 year old daughter and I came here to get our teeth cleaned. I suppose the one thing I did not like is that you have to have an exam before your cleaning, and that means you have to have seperate appointments, so I had to have an exam (so did my daughter) and then come back a week later for the cleaning. The cleaning itself was quick and easy. The hygenists, dentists, and office staff are all quite pleasant. I can't remember the name of the dentist, but the one my daughter saw was very good with kids. PROS: quick and easy CONS: have to make separate appointments for cleaning/exam, parking not so great more
