Best

The food here is great. The drinks are good too. Nice place for good Mexican food in a dimly lit restaurant with great atmosphere. I love this place. Only downside, sometimes ther...

Worst

ths bar is always too crowded, and it's a pick-up joint, in my opinion. the enchiladas are great, i'll say that! but that's about it. the drinks are waaaaaaaayyyy too strong, they...

great service 7/25/2003

I've never been to a Mexican resturant where the servers were so attentive. There must've been 2-3 that were constantly scoping out our needs. There's always a wait to get in (and they won't even let you inside the building, which sucks), b/c the first wait is to get to the bar, and the second wait is for your table. The food's good to okay, but what it lacks in this area, the restaurant pretty much makes up for with ambience (really dark inside; cool like a 70's time capsule), DRINKS and service. Pros: drinks, ambience, valet and Fulton lot Cons: wait is too long, won't let you inside more

great place great food 6/21/2003

I am 33 and have been going here since I was 6 years old. Great tostada salad starts your meal. The salad is the best I have had. The enchiladas are awesome as are the drinks. This is truly a fun place with great service, great food and awesome drinks!!! Pros: Tostada Salad, Service, Margaritas Cons: none at all more

Casa Vega 4/26/2003

My personal mecca. I take every opportunity to spend some time a t the bar ar Casa Vega. I have spent a bit of time under it as well. Tell the bartyenders jokes in Spanish and your home! Absolutely the best Albondagas on earth, but every dish is super!. Oh dress in black at night if you want to make the scene, and if you smoke there is a teensy terrace outside to do so. Pros: booze, women, food Cons: parking, small, closes at 2:00am! more

Too Crowded 4/24/2003

ths bar is always too crowded, and it's a pick-up joint, in my opinion. the enchiladas are great, i'll say that! but that's about it. the drinks are waaaaaaaayyyy too strong, they taste horrible. and the bar is in an akward place, right as you walk in the door...... Pros: good enchiladas Cons: way TOO crowded, bad drinks & chips, terrible parking more

Wish there were more like Casa Vega 3/3/2003

This place had the best maragritas in L.A. The appetizers and entrees are all fabulous and I am picky about Mexican food. You can't just throw cheese on something, stick it under a broiler and call it Mexican. Pros: Fantastic all around Cons: Tiny place, No reservations more

Great drinks 2/16/2003

If you're patient, it's worth the wait standing outside. My first couple of visits to Casa Vega we put our name down for a table and we were allowed right in to wait for the bar. The last time we weren't so lucky. We waited for about 45 minutes outside and we were finally let in for the last 15 minutes of our wait. We couldn't get angry about it. I'd rather stay outside than get jostled by waiters with burning hot plates. Those margaritas are tremendous and the food trails behind but still tastes great (especially after your 2nd margarita!). Service is top-notch and what I appreciate most is the unrushed feeling. Certainly makes up for the long wait outside. Pros: Margaritas, Service, Food Cons: Long wait more

Worth the Wait 2/7/2003

Casa Vega is the BEST Mexican food in Los Angeles!!! The atmosphere is incredible, the staff is very friendly and the margaritas are to die for. There is always a wait but it's well worth it! Every time I go I see a celebrity- Marlon Brando, Heather Locklear, Josh Harnett, Giselle, Jennifer Aniston & Brad Pitt, Dr. Dre. Pros: food, people watching, drinks Cons: wait, crowded more

Best Tostada Salad 2/1/2003

Before each meal, you are served a small tostada salad which is to die for. It's delicious and fresh and strictly vegetarian. The food is delicious, but it's so dark in the restaurant that you can never see it. Pros: affordable, great margaritas, valet parking Cons: too dark, no waiting area more

Bad Mex Food, but Fun Scene 1/31/2003

Compared to many other places in LA, Casa Vega is minimal at best. The taste of the food is questionable, but the drinks are good. All I know is that 3 nice guys (strangers) came up and bought $30 work of drinks for my friend and I. And we aren't even women! So friendly, yes, with good drinks and great crowd. But don't go for the food. And PLEASE don't stand around for an hour for food this carelessly prepared. Have your drinks and then get on the freeway (designated driver, please) and go to La Serenata de Garibaldi instead (or Titos Tacos in Culver City). Pros: I can walk there!, Dark and clubby, Fun crowd Cons: Mediocre food, Long waits more

WAIT OUTSIDE!!?? 1/11/2003

The last 2 times I tried to eat there we were told we had to wait outside and could not go to the bar to have a margarita??? I watch the hostess let 10 people in and she was rude and said they were going to the bathroom. Yeah right! They need to find staff that know's what they are doing! Pros: albondigas soup Cons: waiting outside more

great hang 12/12/2002

casa vega - the best place to hang hungover. Dark cool and sweet margs to get through the rough hours of the day after. waiters are fast moving and don't wait for your order but yell OH SENOR! and they seem to respond. more

Waste of time & money!! 11/5/2002

Casa Vega used to be great. Unfortunately they have gotten way ahead of themselves The prices have gotten out of hand for what it is. And they are RUDE. We went on a Sunday afternoon, 4:30Pm and wanted a booth. The restaurant was pretty empty. They refused, giving all sorts of excuses. Minutes after us another couple came in. Same thing, they wanted a booth AND GOT ONE right across from our table - to add insult to injury. The host lied by saying they were excepting another person in their party when he realized that wouldnt fly, he says ""Whats that matter, you have a nice table!"" At which point we got up and left. I guess Casa Vega doesn't care about the people who have been coming there for years and have LOTS of friends who they will share this story with. Oh well. Cons: Rude, Over Priced more

So-So 10/22/2002

Tried this place due to readership ratings - am not sure what they were thinking, this place serves AVERAGE Mexican fare. Better options are available, no doubt. Cons: Average Food, Average Service more

Fabulouso! 10/11/2002

Casa Vega is one of the greatest mexican food joints there is! When you first walk in you will think you have gone blind, but once your eyes adjust to the dark atmosphere, prepare for old world mexican charm and exquiste cuisine. The burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and enchiladas are plentiful and delicious! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The margaritas are phenomenal and you can eat a whole meal worth of chips and salsa. Pros: delicious, plentiful, fast Cons: no reservations more

Casa HELL YEEE-AHH! 9/24/2002

Casa Vega has it all: The lighting, the food, the service, the margs....it's fantastic. The wait is always L-O-N-G, but those margaritas make up for it. After a few, you may even decide to skip dinner. Check out the guacamole w/ flour chips. YUMMMMMMMMMM! Pros: Service, Food, Drinks Cons: Parking, Crowded more

Celebrity spotting 8/15/2002

The food here is great and the atmosphere is happening. Servings are huge--try their burritos and they're quesadillas! You can wait at the bar before being seated. One thing to be aware of, make sure all of your party is here otherwise those extra seats may be whisked away by the service! Few celebrities have been spotted dining with friends, varying from Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, to newest hunk Josh Hartnett. It says something about the place if the stars can't keep away. It is possible to find parking on the street if you don't want to pay valet. Pros: food, portions, busy atmosphere Cons: loud more

Just the right buzz. 7/18/2002

Dark and a little cramped, but the margaritas are worth it! Not weak but not too strong. Great for afterwork relaxation. Pros: great drinks, inexpensive valet Cons: cramped, food is only so-so more

Casa Average 6/21/2002

I tried this place and afterwards tried to figure out why it is so popular. The food was not bad, but it was far from exceptional. After reviewing the posts, it appears many talk about the Margaritas more than the food. At any rate we feel CV is OK if you are in the area, but we would not consider going out of our way to eat here. more

casa so so 6/13/2002

good restaurant overall. i think it's a bit overrated. some menu options were covered in odd cheese choices, IMHO. bit expensive Pros: good margarita Cons: prices more

Love the Vega 6/9/2002

I have been going to Casa Vega since junior high, and it seems to get better with age. Don't go there if you're starving, as you might have to wait over an hour for a table. Do go there if you are in the mood for Juan's amazing margaritas and some fun people watching. Nie times out of ten you will run into someone you know, or at least someone you WANT to know. The staff there is terrific - from management to busboys. Pros: Staff, Margaritas, Tostadita Cons: Wait for table, Over-crowding more
