ths bar is always too crowded, and it's a pick-up joint, in my opinion. the enchiladas are great, i'll say that! but that's about it. the drinks are waaaaaaaayyyy too strong, they...

remained the same 11/18/2010

Been going here since I was a youngin'. A lot of things have changed, like the addition of the annoying buzzer-thing, but the tasty enchiladas have remained the same. Same thing with the chips and salsa. That's all I really care about. more

Great place with awesome food! 10/14/2009

This place is great! I love the crab and shrimp enchiladas. The margaritas are awesome and definitely pack a punch. Really... the only problem is that it's far from my home, so I don't get to go there too often. Pros: Margaritas and Food Cons: Occasional wait more

GREAT Mexican food and a FUN atmosphere 10/11/2009

Look no further for a great time with awesome food and a festive atmosphere. I am always on the hunt for better Mexican cuisine and I've found it at Casa Vega. The margaritas are legit, fresh salsas and the food is plentiful and fairly priced. I loved it!!! more

True Jewel 10/11/2009

I had never heard of or been to Casa Vega before a friends B-Day celebration in August. I'm one of those Los Angeleno's who can be kinda snobby like the part where I've always proclaimed about my dismal discourse surrounding the wasteland known as the 818. When I got there I was immediately put into a happy place because the valet service was so damn cheap(3.50!!!!!) when two days prior I paid 12.00 bucks at BOA on Sunset or BLT Seak who keeps track anymore, them place was dark as hell inside and the vibe was retro , but in that type of way where you can tell its always been like that not cuz they're trying to be kitschy or retro chic, but because the you cant tell the place has probably just looked like that since day one. Being the tequila afficionado and margarita lover that I am I proceeded to order the house Margarita , anyone can make a good cadillac but the house is what ur putting ur name and ur reputation on. The house margarita kocked me on my ass! The thing must have an octane rating and it was tasty too! They brought us complimentary taquitos along with the prerequisite chips n salsa. The prices were reasonable I figured that there arent a lot of mex restaurants around LA with valet good drinks and killer vibe like this place. I guess if u want cheap mex go to B lettered minimall takeout places. Our server LEO was a consumate professional as he navigated us through the menu like a true salesman and not an apethic order taker like i get so many times, i eat out alot so I can spot the difference. After I left I had to really re-think my whole mindset about the valley and the 818. I cant believe I had never been to Casa Vega before, me? The ultimate restaurant goer. I recommend the burrito ranchero covered in chile con Queso I ate the whole thing in a few minutes and wondered where it went, not cuz its small but cuz it wa so damn tasty. All the places I've been to like Loteria Grill , casa, El Coyote, ciudad, El Cholo etc. etc. aint got nothin' on Vega Pros: Killer Drinks & Really good food Cons: Space @ bar more

A Valley Landmark 10/11/2009

My family has been going to Casa Vega for three generations. It is true Mexican food with extremely potent margaritas. It is crawling with celebs, hollywood insiders and Valley locals. My favorites are the crispy tacos and the dinner tostada salad. Expect a wait. Pros: authentic Mexican food, atmosphere Cons: long wait more

WAY overpriced... food just ok. 8/31/2009

I had heard a lot about this place from friends and wanted to give it a shot - I must say I was very disappointed. I had the tortilla soup, which I thought would be amazing - not so much. I also tried the burrito, the ""oven"" one that comes smothered with red sauce and cheese - not impressed at all. Now, the margaritas. I asked my waiter for a suggestion and after going over a few different ones he insisted on getting the cadillac, and of course going big. The margarita was good, however we were really disappointed when the bill came and we found out how much they were. When I asked the waiter about it he just sort of laughed and said, ""Oh yeah, I probably should have mentioned that. The other ones are half the price."" We split a meal, had one margarita each and our bill was over $70. For all that, you might as well go to Taco Bell and make your own margaritas at home! Pros: None Cons: Drinks too expensive! more

Good food, big portions! 6/22/2009

Had dinner here with a friend for the first time and we loved it. The restaurant was crowded but we didn't wait long to get a table. The food was delicious and the portions generous. i would definitely go back to this place. more

Margaritas in the Dark 1/30/2009

I've been looking for somewhere to get my margaritas-and-not-necessarily-gourmet-food since moving to Sherman Oaks. I needed something to fill the void left by El Coyote. Two of us stopped into Casa Vega for lunch on a Friday. We didn't wait, but we must have just missed the rush since it was packed just a few minutes later. The cadillac margaritas were great -- the waiter asked first if we'd like doubles and of course we said yes, which led to a little bit of sticker shock when the bill came, but they were delicious so it was worth it. It's dark wood paneled, land-that-time-forgot 70's-ish decor, and with all the high-backed booths there is a lot of privacy -- this would be a nice place for a date as well as a loud group of friends. Thumbs up. Pros: Cozy atmosphere Cons: Slightly pricey more

Worst Hostess Service EVER 1/12/2009

I recently went to Casa Vega with some out of town guests. I knew it would be crowded on a Friday night at 8pm, but we wall wanted some good Mexican food. I was told from the hostess that there was only a 20 minute wait. Myself as well as my out-of-town guests were hungry, but we could stand to wait the extra 20 minutes. After 30 minutes of waiting, the hostess told us we'd be waiting another 20-25 minutes. We left. Why tell me 20 minutes when realistically I am going to wait over an hour? Don't waste my time on a Friday night at 8pm, causing me to have to find another restaurant now at 9pm. I also refused to pay the valet, since we never ate. Stop wasting people's time Casa Vega. For this reason alone, I will never go back there and will never recommend the restaurant to any of my friends. Pros: worst hostess service ever Cons: Couldn't tell ya, never got to eat. more

ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS GETTING YOU OUT BEFORE YOU EVEN GET TO FINISH YOUR MEAL. 12/18/2008

I just had a Holiday party with my company at Casa Vega. I can not believe the hurry they were in to kick us out. We were a party of ten+ and our tab was over $500 and the waiter just came and left it on the table, we were not even done ordering. The manager then proceeded to tell us directly that there were people waiting and if we could please hurry up. We were in the middle of a conversation and we weren't even there for that long! I was so emberrassed with my coworkers because I was the one that suggested this place. I have had other incidents at this restaurant. Another time, I took a friend there and they made us move from our table in the middle of our meal because another party was coming in. Oh, they have us a free mini margarita in return :-) Okaaay, that was not enough for the inconvinience. And tonight, for kicking us out they gave me a pen shaped like a Chile...yay! I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER SUGGEST TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS/COWORKERS TO EVER GO HERE AGAIN. The food is overpriced I have had better Mexican food at Guadalajara Grill for much less. more

Casa Rip-off 12/18/2008

I don?t get it? They charge a premium for mediocre food and horrible service. My son lives in the area and has taken me there twice. The first time I had a carne asada burrito that was more bean than beef plus ridiculously poor service. Despite the poor experience I recently returned with my family for more abuse. Again the food was weak, overpriced and the service took on a new level of rude! When we asked the waiter to take a family picture of our table he responded by saying ?I don?t have time?. That?s going to be my response next time my son wants to take me to Casa Vega. Pros: location Cons: attitude of the entire staff more

burrito oven style is worth the wait every time 10/23/2008

this place is awesome, i used to go all the time (including 3 visits in one day on one occasion) when my friends lived in sherman oaks and i still make the trip from santa monica whenever i can. the wait is never as long as the hostess says and the place is fun. chips are perfectly salted, salsa is just the right level of spice and replaced by the waiters almost too often. i've never ordered anything but the carne asada or carnitas burrito oven styles, but there is no need to bc they are awesome. i have a friend who doesnt even open the menu. more

NOT GREAT BUT ALWAYS PACKED! WHY GO? 8/6/2008

This place is a testament to the stupidity of diners or the triumph of a great location over quality. Good atmosphere, average food, and prices that are not outrageously high but you can go elsewhere and pay less. Does this really sound like the place YOU want to go to? Many do...and wait for a table! To me it's no fun to find just an average restaurant. I want to rave about a place. Nothing here is exceptional...it's packed and loud. I'll go if friends want me to join them but I'd never suggest this place. more

Great Mexican food and drinks! 6/25/2008

I have been here many times. They always say the wait will be about 40 minutes (you'll see...) but I have never waited more than 10 minutes (you'll see...). The food is good, the ambiance is great, the margaritas are even BETTER! the only thing you have to watch out for is the bartenders - if you pay them in cash, they don't ring up your drink in the register - they will pocket the money. Or, if they do ring it up in the register, they will only ring up half the order and pocket the other half. So now I only pay with credit card. Other than that, it's a great spot. Pros: Great food, great ambiance, great service Cons: The bartenders are shady! more

good carne asada burrito! 4/19/2008

I was apprehensive about this place, judging from the reviews I saw online. But, the hostess wasn't bad, she even seated us without our full party (2/3 were there, so it wasnt that bad.) The waiter was dismissive but efficient. The only problem is that the tables are so close together your butt might knock someone elses cup over as you try to squeeze out of your booth (almost happened to me tonight!). The carne asada burrito rocked, (but it was almost the same as the burrito at Las Fuentes, but at Las Fuentes its cheaper and there's no wait, ambiance/shi-shi vibe). It's not half bad. Pros: carne asada burrito more

The best margaritas in a dark, comfy booth! 12/29/2007

Best margaritas in town! The chips are really good, too. I think the food is OK and have yet to discover my favorite dish there. I mainly go for the margaritas and the atmosphere. I love the dark decor and comfy booths. It's a great low key date place. Pros: The margaritas, the atmosphere Cons: Food is good but not terrific more

Don't waste your money! 11/20/2007

I just got home from eating at Casa Vega. It cost me and my girl friend over $70.00 and the food was garbage, it was worst than garbage. My girlfriend went right to the bathroom and sat on the toilet for over an hour. My dinner keeps coming up on me and I have thrown up once already. That greedy little Mexican has the nerve to charge you top dollar for that garbage just because a movie star is dumb enough to stop in from time to time. I will never return there again and they call that place a restaurant? . Pros: People watching Cons: Food more

Great food and Maragrita's!!!! 11/13/2007

I ended up eating here one night with some co-workers and it was fantastic. Their was about a 20 minute wait so by the time we got seated i was super hungry. It was totally worth the wait. The food was amazing! I loved the atomosphere and the service was great. If you like authentic Mexican food, then go to Casa Vega! Pros: maragita's / food Cons: the wait more
