Best

The food here is great. The drinks are good too. Nice place for good Mexican food in a dimly lit restaurant with great atmosphere. I love this place. Only downside, sometimes ther...

Worst

ths bar is always too crowded, and it's a pick-up joint, in my opinion. the enchiladas are great, i'll say that! but that's about it. the drinks are waaaaaaaayyyy too strong, they...

Unfair criticism 12/8/2006

I have been going to Casa Vega for over 20 years. The food and service is always great. I personally know the owner and to throw out baseless accusations against him is totally unfair and innappropriate, not to mention hurtful. If the previous reviewer is indeed a gay man I would hope that he would understand that. more

cheesy atmostphere, but good food 11/24/2006

Hate that you always have to wait an hour to get a table here...but the food is good. Embarrassed that the employees have to wear such ridiculous outfits, but nonetheless, the service is good. Prices are decent, but not great. Bar is fun and always full of people..... Pros: great food Cons: the wait more

What am I missing here? 11/22/2006

I'm confused, why all the hype about this place? The food is average at best, nothing truly new or inventive or even all that flavorful. Its definitely a place to see and be seen but other than that, its not really worth the long wait and the shoving and pushing as you try to find a place to stand and drink your drink while you wait. And yet they all come...I don't get it but I won't be back to figure it out. Pros: Good value Cons: Long lines, average food, average service more

No good 10/25/2006

I heard a lot of good things about this place but when I finally went there it was bad. First of all everyone working there looked like their puppies had all been murdered, mopy and lathargic. We ordered some appetizers and entrees. The appetizers came out but no appetizers, the waiter argued with us wheter or not we even ordered it. Are you kidding? The correct thing for him to say is, ""I'm sorry I didn't bring out your order, it will be right out and we'll comp one of your entrees."" The incorrect thing for him to say was, ""You didn't order anything, fine, do you still want it?"" You can only guess what my answer was. And to top it all off the food we ate wasn't that good. Muy malo. Pros: I can't think of any Cons: Service, parking, food quality more

Great authentic mexian food 9/28/2006

This place is so good!!! the mexican food here comes in big portions, probably enough for two people!!It's somewhat on the expensive side but you are guaranteed not to let that affect your tastebuds!!it is very dark inside so be careful coming around the corners, but its ultra private(a lot of celb sighting if you can make out their faces LOL!)I love the chesse soup that comes as an option with every meal(or you can have the meatball soup or their salad on a tortilla shell)I always order the combo plates so I can have leftovers for the next day(2 items rice and beans and one of the options I mentioned above)The service is great, never had a complaint about it at all..only thing is that you can not make reservations so most nights you have at least a 20min. wait but its worse Fri and Sat nights more like a hour wait but believe me its worth it!! OOO!! the margaritas are the best and they are strong too!!! ENJOY!!!! Pros: ambience, happy hour, service and food Cons: waiting for table, a little too dark at times more

Awesome Margaritas! 8/9/2006

All I can say is ""Wow."" The drinks are great (just the house margarita alone will give you a buzz). The food and atmosphere certainly makes up for the sometimes crowded scene at the bar. If you want to get a seat, I find it much easier to go during the day if possible, usually on a Sunday or during the week. Juan and Ignacio are the best bartenders - just ask and they will make your drinks even stronger if you want!! Pros: Drinks, Atmosphere Cons: Crowded more

Great for people watching 6/28/2006

The food is good, the drinks are good, and the people in there are interesting to watch. The only draw back is that this place seems to always be jam packed, but it is worth the wait as others have mentioned. Pros: Food, people watching. Cons: Long wait more

Amazing place to have a drink 5/17/2006

It's surprising to find such a beautiful and colorful crowd in this Studio City hole in the wall. The margaritas are expensive but done well. And the food is surprisingly good. However, you should go to Casa Vega for the crowd. It's hilarious people watching. Pros: People watching, Margaritas, Chips & Salsa Cons: Drinks Expensive, Crowded more

Great experience! 5/4/2006

We tried casa vega on a Thursday evening with a group of friends. I was a little skeptical because of some of the reviews on this site but we were pleasantly surprised. We had great service, great food and great margaritas. I have to agree with the other reviews--the tostado salad was amazing. We are looking forward to going back. more

Worth the Wait 5/2/2006

Although Casa Vega is always crawling with people, a few bucks to the restaurant manager might get you seated faster. Pros: cheap, good mexican food Cons: long wait to sit more

Tasty 3/23/2006

Great flavor. Prompt seating. They were not stingy with their portions. Pros: Good food Cons: Bit pricey more

Like being ripped off? 2/22/2006

I brought my friend for lunch. Although the margaritas tasted good, they called the drink a double (joke) and it cost $27.50 for two. The food was even worse. The pork tostada had about 5 little pieces of meat and mostly iceberg lettuce. Over all - a waste of money and time. Taco Bell is better! more

This place always makes me smile 1/9/2006

From tacky ""CV"" topiary out front to the cheesey interior, this is the place to go to let your hair down, have good Mexican food, and let go of any pretense. Too bad they added those twinkly white lights inside, a few years ago it was even darker in there. The crowd is amusing from local Valley types (acid wash jeans, gig hair) to porno ""stars"" and celebs.....time to have some fun! Pros: drinks, best mole in town Cons: waiting for table more

A Valley Favorite! 12/25/2005

Anyone who says the food here is bad, is just plain crazy. I have been going to Casa Vega for over 7 years and I have never had a bad meal! The service is fast once you get seated which can take a while on the busy weekend nights. The salad you get with the combo meals is amazing and almost addicting. The decor is kitchy but it's intended that way and what's a great meal without a unique ambiance? The dim lighting has been a favorite of cheaters and new couples alike, but it's always flattering for that first date (the dimmer the light, the better you look!). Pros: Ambiance, Food, Service Cons: Long Waits on Weekend more

poor excuse for mexican food 11/17/2005

i don't know how this place hasn't closed yet. the food is greasy and unappetizing, the service is SLOW and the prices are too high for the caliber of food that it is. the fames margaritas aren't any better than i can make in my blender at home, except i wouldn't be using CHEAP tequila to make them. and by the way, are the lights that dim so you don't see the quality of your food and the tackiness of the decor? Cons: slow service, cheap quality food more

The best chicken enchiladas! 7/3/2005

I love this place, it is one of my favorite places for Mexican food, and I am a Mexican food connoseiur! This place is not for those watching their diet however... go hungry! more

Its an institution 3/21/2005

The food is amazing and the service stinks! Its always been this way and it will always be this way! The bartenders are great and the servers at the table are horrible. The food and Margs are some of the best in the valley. The fried burrito is legendary. I wouldnt change a thing. Pros: Margs, Food, Bartenders Cons: Service, Service, Crowded more

You'll Be Hooked 10/17/2004

Casa Vega has everything going for it. The restaurant is beautiful in it's decor, exquisite art work! The bartender and wait staff are so cordiale. Look for the owner over your shoulder making the rounds and always smiling. The most delicious (and strong) margaritas and get some queso! (Out of this world!) Unbelievable chicken enchiladas and you can get it a la carte-portions are BIG! You will have a long wait for dinner I am told, but I have only gone for lunch and you can get in and out quickly. If you are lucky enough to work nearby-this is a real treat. Muy Bueno! Pros: Excellent Food, Ambiance, Fast Lunch more

Like Margaritas? 10/15/2004

If you like margaritas, this place makes pretty good ones. All kinds of flavors and all kinds of tequila. Tables are reserved for diners only and the bar area is kinda small on the weekends. Even smaller when people are coming in cause the entrance/exit is 10ft from the bar. Really more of a locals joint. Try closing your night here about 1a on the weekends. Any earlier, it's pretty crowded. Pros: Margaritas more

Fun, good margaritas, and good food 4/21/2004

Casa Vega is a little far for me to go, but occasionally I'll make the extra trip for the delicious mole. The servers have always been extremely pleasant, and once you get seated the service is almost dismayingly fast (gee, I've been waiting awhile, I'd like to linger at the table a while too). And the tasty margaritas will knock you on your butt. Parking is a serious pain, but the valet is not that expensive and occasionally you get lucky on the street. I've always been lucky with the wait - on the long side, but I've never had to wait outside. Pros: Delicious mole, Atmosphere, Margaritas with punch Cons: , Wait for table more
