Warning: Do NOT have you bike serviced by this business!!! 4/14/2012

Drove my Kawasaki Vulcan out from California. The bike failed just outside of Las Vegas. I trailered bike in to Carter Power Sports for diagnosis.\r Their technician(s) indicated the problem was an ECM (Electronic Control Module) failure needing approximately $1200 in repairs above the $100 already charged.\r I declined the repair as some quick research indicated I could purchase an ECM for much cheaper ($661) and plug it in myself ($0). \r Unfortunately, I had to rent a U-Haul van for $400 to transport myself and the bike home to California.\r At home, I examined the bike myself and it was immediately evident that the problem was two (vibration-)severed wires on the wiring harness bundle less than two inches from the ECM module plug. I was amazed their technician did not see the plainly visible broken wires as it would be obvious to any untrained eye!\r With an hour of my time and and 5-cents worth of solder and electrician's tape, I repaired the wires resulting in the motorcycle immediately firing up and running just fine! No ECM issues… \r I called their service manager as well as emailed photos documenting the before and after images of the wiring problem including a photo of the tachometer running at 2500rpm and the odometer listed at the same mileage as their shop ticket!\r He/His managment refused to admit their technician misdiagnosed a clearly visible broken wire that might have resulted in a fleecing of over $1000 of unnecessary repairs. They also refused to refund me the $100 charged for the misdiagnosis by their inept technician(s). \r Avoid this business as their repair diagnoses cannot be trusted as well as their management cannot be trusted in taking the ethically correct solution in at least giving a pitance of $100 diagnostic refund. more

Great Bike, GREAT SERVICE. Told Truth up front. 3/18/2011

Went there first and liked the attitude and customer service but wasn't ready to buy yet. They didn't bug me and gave me the total price before I left with all the "fees". I thought the fees were a little high but the sale price on the bike was good. I went to another place and they were rude and pushy but the bike price was a little lower. I was going to buy it, then when I was getting ready to sign they tacked on all the extra fees and they were WAY higher than Carter's. When I started to leave they got really ugly and pushy. I went back to Carter and the price they gave me before was the REAL price. I don't have my moto lic. yet so they even delivered it to my house for free and filled it with gas. Don't waste your time anywhere else. Even if it costs more I will buy my next bike there!! more

Gov. Inspector 11/25/2010

I usually have to purchase seasonal passes and off road tags at this location as a matter of convienence. I have also purchased parts for my Quad. The sales people in the parts department are usually lacking any friendliness and don't give the impression that they appreciate your business. This especially holds true with the females. Times are tuff economically, and they should show are higher level of enthusiam and respect for their customers. Thank god I trained my business employees to extend a much better appreciation. more

best shop around 5/23/2009

I previously reviewed blogs about all the shops in town and have came to the conclusion that most people blog when they are upset. So knowing this, I wanted to see for myself first hand. When I was ready to buy my next motorcycle, I have 3, I "shopped" around to see where I wanted to spend my hard earned money. I visited every dealership in town and came to realize only one spot "earned" my business. Carter Power Sports was the friendliest, most knowledgeable staff I have found. I told the sales rep that was not buying today and wanted time to look. He replied that his job is not to "sell" but to offer everyone a "great experience" and that the rest will fall in place. I could not believe what I heard. He showed me around we just talked motorcycles for a while. Need-less to say, I came back. The process was smooth and fun...we made some jokes and busted the sales managers balls but he made it fun as well. Great place to do business! more

carter is the best 5/23/2009

Carter is always the place to go whatever you need. I bought my bike from them in '08 and got the best customer service ever. I knew what i wanted and i did not want to play any games. I told the salesman what i expected to pay and they accomodated me. It wasn't the deal I wanted but it was close. the parts people are great and they hacve a ton in stock. i haven't went to service yet but so far so good. great shop. highly reccomend it! Pros: best customer service and product knowledge more

Watch the Costs! 5/10/2009

Went to purchase a Yamaha, with Sale price advertised as a special -- $4999. (plus costs). Little did I know after constantly asking how much costs were that it was $2700 more! Store looks nice, but beware of the hiddens if you shop there. more

Great place all around!!! 4/9/2009

I am from Cali and have been riding for 15 years and shopping at all kinds of dealerships in my day. I always find the best deals before committing. I recently visited Carter and had a great experience. I was greeted right away and not "attacked". The sales rep took the time to just talk to me and find out what I liked to do and what kind of riding I was interested in. He was very knowledgeable and polite. I was in the market for two sport bikes and to be honest I found a price about $150 cheaper. But you get what you pay for. I will gladly pay an extra $150 for the customer service I received there! After buying the bikes I got a follow-up call just to make sure everything was perfect. Top notch! Search no more for a shop to call your own. Carter is it! more

Huge markup on a bike purchase 6/10/2008

Went in to buy a popular $3500 bike. They misqoted MSRP, and then tacked on a bunch of fees, so that the out-the-door price came to over $5500. I bought the same bike in Arizona for $1100 less! more

Stay away from Carter's service department! 8/15/2007

After discovering another shop in town I would NEVER take my bike back to Carter. One of the many negative experiences I've had there: six months ago I ran over a nail and had to have my back tire replaced. Carter had the size I needed in stock but not the same brand name. They gave me a huge hassle about it saying I would have to replace both the front and rear even though the front was fine just so I would have the same brands. Eventually (after much going back and forth with the manager) they agreed to let me use the different brand name if I signed a waiver. The rear tire alone cost me about $300.\r \r Just last week I ran over another nail. I called Motorcycle City. They told me they have the size I need, it's a different brand but ""that's no big deal"" and it will be $120 including installation. Carter Powersports ripped me off completely. I had been taking my bike there for a year prior to discovering Motorcycle City. It makes me wonder how many other times they ripped me off that I don't even know about. If you need repair on your bike, go to Motorcycle City instead! Pros: Can't think of any off hand Cons: Scam artists more

Very friendly and helpful 1/10/2007

Very friendly and helpful staff... fairly young, with not too much experience, but all of the salespeople/riders have passion for biking, and it shows. Almost fun just chatting with some of them going in just to pick up some oil, or minor part. Recommended, certainly... more

Rude Parts Staff 10/4/2006

I had a satisfactory experience with the Maintenance and Service department, but the people they have manning the Parts department need a serious lesson in manners. Maybe they have to deal with some rude customers and have to answer a lot of stupid questions, but I didn't appreciate getting into a shouting match with a young girl over handing over some personal information when paying for my motorcycle service.\r \r I had sufficient proof to prove who I was and the appropriate funds were deducted from my account. Having a young punk girl get confrontational with me because I refused to hand over additional personal information was downright unprofessional. The other members of their Parts staff aren't that much better when you ask them simple questions (both on the phone and in person).\r \r The management needs to give some of these people some serious training in customer service whether they like it or not. I don't owe them my repeat business. PROS: Good Maintenance turnaround time. C more
