Canela Spa

I have been to Canela for 2 haircuts. My first visit was decent.... I was very apprehensive right away when I had to explain what I wanted to the girl at the front desk so she could translate it to spanish for the stylist. I figured it was just a basic cut and not much could go wrong so I went for. The trim was not bad at all but it felt very uncomfortable getting the work done without having any communication with the stylist at all. She really spoke ZERO english! I visited the salon again only because I could not find any other decent, clean salon in the area and the stylist seemed like she knew what she was doing, despite the communication issue. That time I got a full head of highlights and decided to go for an actual cut, not a trim. BIG BIG BIG mistake. While the stylist was applying the color she called over 2 other stylists to look at something with my hair. I of course had no clue what they were saying because apparently the girl at the front desk is the only english speaker. I was very nervous but once I was in front of the mirror and she started doing the cut it seemed to look fine. As the woman was cutting I tried to show her numerous times how my hair parts and she kept parting it back to her way. When the color, cut and style was finished it looked fine and I left. Once I got home and put my part back to where it usually is I noticed that all the highlights on that area of my hair had more than 1inch of roots. As I started looking closer and parting my hair in other areas I realized that most of the under layers of my hair were like that. The manager had me come back for them to fix it and when I went back the manager was not there and again the girl at the desk had to translate what the issue was to the stylist. The stylist's explanation was that the color wouldnt hold to those parts of my head and that she would TRY to fix it. While she was attempting to fix it she again called over 2 different people to look at my hair, and was insisting that the color just didnt want to take. She left me at the sink for a LONG time, trying to get the color to hold, while she left to work on another client. After she took the foils off she went back to her other client. After some time she went to get the "translator" and I was told that if I wanted the blow out I would have to pay for it since they were not charging me for fixing the color. I could not believe it. And to top off all of that, when I got home, there were still many areas with missing color and then other areas where she attempted to fix it were way way lighter in color than the rest of the highlights because she left them so long. I had a scheduled a hair trim and new color dye at canela spa in the bronx. The customer service that i received from the stylist and her assistants was great especially since i had to bring my one year old daughter to the salon with me. But despite that I had TWO major issues with this salon, which was that my new color came out unevenly, and their solution to this was for me to set up another appointment for a wash and set (which i would have to pay for) and they will correct my color then. The other major issue is that I was originally quoted a price two weeks ago ($85) for all the services that i needed, and when it came time to pay my bill was $100 and i DID NOT get all services that I needed all i got was my hair dyed (and that came out wrong). Also lady at the counter could not find my gift card and told me that it was invalid. After i insisted that i had never used my gift card and to continue looking (for 10mins) then she suddenly found my gift card number and at that moment informed me since i have had my $44 gift card for over a year that the balance had been reduced to $34. I left the salon feeling hood winked, i dont think i will ever return. more

My husband and I had the Couples Nirvana. we were celebrating our 20th yr wedding anniversary. I had Delfine, and my husband had Kawana. My husband feel asleep. This was his first experience at a spa. He loved it. they were both very good. We enjoyed ourselves and left refreshed and ready for the rest of our day. I would go again. Delphin is an amazing massage therapist. I sit all day in my job and told him my hips hurt and I'd like extra attention on my feet. Delphin had me like a very happy rag doll by the time he was done with me. Highly recommend Canela Spa and Delphin. Pros: Clean, professional more

Loved the massage.. Delfin's massage was soo good I fell asleep. I highly reccomend it. Manicure and pedicure was nothing to write home about. The hairdressers are top notch.. their best asset. The spa is small but cozy. more

Today I went to do my eyebrows for $10 at Canela Spa, when I got home and saw my eyebrows in the mirror for the first time that is when I noticed the terrible job they did and I tried to fix them. I have been to other places that have done a much better job for 1/2 the price. Even I could have done a better job. more

The stylist spoke almost zero english. I left and went straight to another salon to have my hair fixed afterward. I wanted a "curl enhancing cut" and the lady looked at me crossed-eyed when i requested this...I shoudve left then. I think half of the positive reviews on this website are fake because they all sound the same, and I cant believe there is anyone that people like the hair services they offer. I gave this salon 2 stars only because it was clean. I went there because of all the reviews I saw on this site, and really wanted to like this place because of it's proximity to my home. First, I entered and was told I would wait about 15 minutes. I waited 35. Then, when I met my stylist, I became even more frustrated when I learned she spoke very little English. I carefully explained to her what I wanted, which was quite simple: layers in the front and back, with side bangs. She starts cutting and right away I knew it was going to be a poor hair cut. She barely moved my hair around, she achieved the "layers" by chopping in one swoop, instead of moving the hair to different angles to create movement, depth etc as my past stylists have done. Next she cut my bangs, and instead of cutting them to the side, like I asked, she cuts them STRAIGHT, and then blowdrys them to the side. Finally she blowdrys the rest of my hair and flips the ends very dramatically (think Farrah Fawcett's signature do on SPEED), which i didn't ask for either. I looked like I was going to 8th grade prom. The style/cut was mediocre at best. I will never go there to get my hair done again. It doesn't seem like the stylists stay updated with the current trends in hair styling/cutting. But, I will say, that I cannot attest to the quality of the spa portion, which my sister tells me is actually quite good. Pros: Clean Cons: Archaic styling techniques more

I'm a spa lover so I've been to many spas across the country, around the world. Canela has the best combination of excellent customer services (the front staff are warm and welcoming), great massage services(Delfin is a wonderful massage therapist) and ambience (the decor is beautiful) and best of all its in the heart of my hometown, the Bronx. I'm so glad to see such upscale, but friendly services in the Bronx. Keep it up! And I'm looking forward to my next massage with Delphin- he's very precise and aims to make his clients happy! They also did a great job with accomodating my mom on her special day- l really appreciated that. Pros: the prices are great for the services. a little less than Manhattan, but same service and ambience Cons: parking in parkchester always a problem, but at least its situated in front of a parking lot area more

From the moment I walked in I was extremely impressed. The receptionist was extremely nice and offered me water or tea. It truly is an Oasis in the Bronx as one person had stated before. Unique is wonderful and her waxing job was amazing. She is very professional and you feel like you have known her for years. This comes in handy when you are getting a Brazilian wax. I would recommend this place to everyone. Unique also does facials and body scrubs. The only problem is that it is hard to find parking in Parkchester, however if you make your appointments early you may get lucky. more

I live in Parkchester and have been going to Canela for about a year now. It's a beautiful spa, with a very upscale appearance and good quality products. I usually get hair services- wash/set/cut etc. and I love it! I always leave feeling like a new woman. I just recently tried a massage with Delphin and it was magical. I've had massages at a lot of different spas, in different cities, and his was by far the BEST! He's very professional and has a great sense of what needs to be worked out and just how much pressure it'll take to do it. I'm an attroney and I work long hours. I always seem to have tension in my neck and back. Delphin worked all the kinks out steadily and patiently. It was incredible!! I don't usually like to write reviews, but I really love Canela and was so impressed by my massage that I just had to show my support. The tone of a friendly, warm and inviting space was set by Jennifer and Yunique (spelling?), the two ladies, who greeted me upon entering Canela Spa. I was offered tea, water and a comfortable area to wait for my massage. I have been to many spa salons throughout the New York area as well as around the country and in Europe, and the treatment I received at Canela would rival any of the spas I've been to. My masseur, Delfin, was fabulous - he was attentive, professional, and very knowledgeable about the body and techniques he used. I am a dancer, teacher, and performer and use my body quite a bit. I was very pleased with my massage and will be returning soon to have Delfin work out the kinks. I would certainly recommend Delfin and Canela to my friends. Pros: The atmosphere is conducive to healing. And, there are a lot of shops and restaurants in the area. Cons: Parking is a problem - but you'll be happy once inside more

I went in feeling tired and achy, especially since I'm a new mommy AGAIN. Sounds like I have alot of children... Not the case. Just had my second. Anyway, my husband gave me a gift certificate for a massage, since he knew I had a good experience there previous to giving birth. I went and met Delfin, the massage therapist. He asked me a routine series of questions and a few minutes later led me to the suite where I'd be having my massage. He explained the type of massage I was going to receive which was the Melting Muscle Massage. He was very professional and courteous. The massage was wonderful. I enjoyed it completely, to the point where I even caught myself falling asleep because I felt sooo relaxed. I'd recommend this place to anyone. Thank you Delfin!!!! I sent my girlfriend to Canela to get her hair and nails done. She was aprehensive about having someone new do her hair, but the folks at the salon listened to what she wanted and then made sure to get it right. They also took the time to do her nails while she waited to finish her hair. I was extremely pleased with the result, as was my girlfriend. I can't thank the folks at Canela enough for taking the time and making her look great. She felt and looked beautiful! Pros: Friendly and helpful staff Cons: None more

When I went to Canela's for the first time I was very apprehensive about it, having never been to a massage therapist, but I stuck it out, and it was good. It was relaxing and a few weeks later I decided to go again, got a different therapist and there I discovered Delfin, so to speak. I work 50 -60 hours a week, hunched over a computer...having lots of muscle pain in my shoulders and upper back. I would get migraines from staring at a computer screen all day, and I have arthritis in my legs; it was always recommended that I get a massage and now I know why. The first time I went he asked me what I needed. I told him and we went from there. It was amazing. After my first massage with him, I got up and every bone in my body cracked. There was no pain. I've gone back several times since and he always seems to know where the pain is, and works it out masterfully, applying just the right pressure. On top of being a wonderful massage therapist, he is a gentleman, always polite, and genuinely concerned with his clients well being. After going to see Delfin a few times my headaches are all but gone and while I still have shoulder pain from work, it's better,and continues to get better with each visit. Working in the "macho" world of construction can do MANY things to your body. Not to mention how it can cause you to have MANY preconceived notions about anything. My girlfriend had to CONVINCE me to get a massage... Being stubborn when it comes to getting a massage from a person who doesn't look like they can work any MAGIC is one of the WORST things I have ever done. Upon first meeting YOMAYRA my initial thought was "what can this little lady do to me?" Keeping in mind that I'm all of 6'1 and over 250 lbs.I was GLAD to be wrong! after a week of working construction , a massage from YOMAYRA is like being handled by the hands and fingers of a DIVINE being! I have HONESTLY and WHOLEHEARTEDLY taken to calling her MAGIC HANDS. My first massage with her was a COUPLES NIRVANA. I now feel a bit guilty getting a massage from YOMAYRA. May this guilt NEVER leave me. I THOROUGHLY enjoy our conversations and sessions...Anyone getting a massage at CANELA's would be HIGHLY remiss to not deal with the young lady with the MAGIC HANDS. I have been to many spas, from a quick walk-in downtown to 5 star hotel spas in Hawaii and I have to say that I lucked out with Canela Spa right down the street. I have been getting treatments there since they first opened and have tried many of their body massages. I started with the male until I was scheduled with YOMAYRA, who is the BEST, this young female massage therapist is experienced beyond her years and I have been going to her ever since. She knows and pays attention to her customers. She has good conversation, and yet knows when just let the music do all the talking. One day I was accidently scheduled with a new hire and YOMAYRA, who was technically off , was only in-house for a scheuled training. She realized my loyalty to her and gave me my massage on her day off. Now what is more loyal than that?! Satisfactory customer service at its best!!!! I have been into Spa treatments for over 20 yrs going to the best of Spas in NYC. Last yr I was intro to Canela Spa in The Bronx by my girlfriend's daughter-n-law. I've tried all the facials & spa services....incl. the hair & toes services....The staff is very pleasant offering you cookies, hot tea or cold water upon one's arrival. Unique & Delfin are the newest members to join Canela Spa~Unique she does great facial & Delfin gives the BEST DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE I've ever experienced! I've had the best massages in the US, as well as in the caribbeans. You will not be disappointed, you will find yourself going again & again....I reside in The Bronx & find this location just WONDERFUL........Canela staff please keep pleasing all your clients! thank u for GREAT services!!!!
