Once Upon a Time 8/20/2011

I went to Burke in the late 1980's and he was simply the best DR. He me, my Mother and friends so much. The kind of Doc that phoned you back asap, gave me YEARS worth of samples cause he knew I needed them. Called me personally when I was in the hospital out of the WC area. Helped me when there was a billing issue. Saw me for free after he moved his practice ! Then he had personal problems, a bad car accident etc. and all seemed to go down hill. He specialized in Lyme and was one of the best in the country. But then he started diagnosing everything as Lyme and missed serious other health issues. We left his practice. Dr Burke died this last spring. I still thought highly of him but felt so sorry for him because it was blatantly obvious he had serious problems. I still miss him. What a loss. more

Balanced Review 11/12/2010

Ok, anyone who goes to see Dr. Burke is going to wait 4-8 hours to see him, regardless of your appointment time. It's the number one complaint anyone will have about seeing him. However, people will wait that long because he will easily take 1-2 hours with each patient, reviewing tests, histories and symptoms. He is very thorough, and it is obvious he cares a great deal for each and every one of his patients. I believe some of the reviews on unfair and very one-sided on this site. Dr. Burke deals with tick-born illness (Lyme, etc) and most people who come to him have been sick for over a decade without having proper medical care because of the treatment guidelines and controversy surrounding these diseases. They are bitter, sick and angry and rightfully so. People in treatment for these illnesses that say they got worse don't understand that, like chemo to cancer, treatment for these diseases normally results in feeling a LOT worse and a new host of symptoms. The “shadowy business practices” and double billing is the result of his old staff stealing money from him and defrauding insurance companies which has probably resulted in his office being moved. He has spend a good deal of time in court over both this issue as well as going to court to fight for patients against insurance companies. Also, Dr. Burke has suffered from his own host of tick-born illnesses which have resulted in him taking sick days, being sick in the office, etc. For the best determination, make an appointment, sit in the office and talk to those patients who he has helped. There is a very real reason people wait. Results. more

Good Doc, Horrible Di 11/12/2010

Ok, everyone who see's Dr. Burke knows you are going to wait between 4-7 hours to see him. And everyone knows he will sit with you for 1-2 hours. You can't argue results. Anyone who does any research on the controversy around Lyme AND related tick-born infections knows it’s rare to find an advocate. Dr. Burke is one of the only doctors I have come across who continues to research and follow studies on medications, treatments and testing. People with tick-born illnesses have few places to go. You can’t argue with results - he has either healed or improved the quality of life for many people. Talk to anyone in his waiting room (waiting 4-7 hours and driving from different states) and they will tell you while the wait it annoying and he can be unorthodox in his strategies (what doctor ever sat with a patient for over 15 minutes?), but he cares a great deal for everyone and knows what he is doing. Additionally, he has suffered from these diseases as well, so he knows what it is like to go through the treatments. These dieses are horrible, affecting every part of your body and mind – people who come to Burke (and probably wrote some of these reviews) are already frustrated at the medical system, the money they have spent and the pain they have endured. Unfortunately, treatment for tick-born illnesses is rough – you don’t take a pill and feel better. I think it is slightly unfair to totally blame Burke for symptoms of medication, detoxing or even the fact that he has one other person on staff to help him. more

Just look at his office and ask why 10/7/2010

His office looks like a tornado hit it!! complete disarray, messy, unclean! I cant believe anyone would trust thier health to someone who runs an outfit like this! He is constantly in court battling issues that relflect the true character of this loser. BTW the address listed here is his old address and its changing again...Just ask your self Why! more

he is mentally unstable 9/14/2010

He is the worst kind of doctor. He is under the impression that he knows and can cure anything. He treated me for some time and did nothing but make me sicker. He diagnosed me with lyme disease...he diagnoses everyone that comes into his office with lyme disease. He prays on the desperate and weak who feel they have no where else to turn. He does not care about his patients. He is an narcasistic ego maniac. I have waited all day in his office before because I felt I had no where else to turn. He ruined my life and I now have a lot of health problems because of the medication he gave me. He will tell you you have lyme disease and co infections. Please beware...this is not a good man. I think he is absolutely crazy...and I don't use that word lightly! more

Shady business practices 7/15/2010

Impossible to reach by phone. Shady business practices. Be careful how you pay this man. He will collect twice, ( from you and from the insurance company) and not reimburse you for the over payment. more

Dr. Burkre 1/22/2010

I'm 25, and I have Lyme Disease, RSD, and Endometriosis. I have been to at least 20 doctors. None have taken the time to LISTEN as he has. He would go out of the way to help you. He has been helping me with all my medical conditions more then any doctor has. He knows what he is talking about instead of these so called "specialist" who pretend to know what to expect when you have these conditions. Dr Burke also found a parasite in my blood when I went to my family doctor to get the blood testing done for Lyme, also that I had it chronically. The family doctor said it was acute, and didn't even see the parasite. Yes it is hard to reach him, and you have to wait. BUT it is worth it if he can fix whatever medical problems you have than going to doctor after doctor just to even get a diagnosis. more

Mixed Feelings 6/11/2009

Good: Dr. Burke seems to care about his patients, and he does seem to be very knowlegable in regards to lyme disease. He will take the time to listen to you..in fact, to much when it's 11PM at night, and you've been waiting 5 hours to see him, and you just want him to discuss the vital points.. Bad: The staff changes,no sense of congruity in the office.Staff unprofessional, even they seemed confused.I've paid for visits, only to have him charge my insurance for same visit. Not legal. I'm owed money still. Disorganization is reason for wait, he over-explains himself, always seems 1/2 asleep, doesn't encourage any other opinions ("he's all you need".)Encouraged to not exercise while on treatment, but my muscles certainly atrophied and I'm weaker now then before my 13 wks of treatment, and no better.. Improvements: I'd like to see that the treatment he prescribes to patients work on him. Always told (on the long wait, 1/2 falling asleep while talking to you, etc) he's got lyme too. So, if he treated himself years ago (and still treats himself) and is still functioning poorly, what hope is there for anyone else he treats?. Other: I won't go back to Dr. Burke. He may be a nice man,but somethings not right there. While putting my IV catheter in,he left the room and had a nurse put one in him the next room: coming back in w/ blood on his coat, etc. In the meantime, he needed to give me more sedation to continue my procedure. He took hrs. hospital does it in 30 min.Insisted only he could do. Additionally, spirochete (lyme) live off of sugar, he doesn't encourage whole health, good eating, exercise. this seems fundamental to any illness.. more

Completely Disorganized 5/15/2009

You will not get in for several hours. No exaggeration. Has been through at least 4 office managers in 3 months so his books are in complete disarray. He has owed me $600 for 9 months and now I can't even get a call in to his office. I don't trust doctors who behave this way. more

Brilliant and Compassionate 3/7/2009

Dr. Burke is well worth the wait. I trust him with my life. He runs quite late (I plan accordingly). He spends a lot of time with his patients and listens to them. He is right at the cutting edge of Lyme disease treatment. more

I trust him. 12/29/2008

Dr. Burke is a Caring and compassionate person. I always feel like I am in good hands. more

BRILLIANT CLINITIAN 3/28/2008

Dr. Burke may make you wait a bit for an appointment, but the benefit is well worth the wait. When you are in his office, you feel as if you are his only patient, an attitude shared by most of his patients. Just call ahead and his office will let you know how far he is behind. On issues outside his specialties, he has referred me to specialists for either confirmation of his diagnosis or an alternative diagnosis. I've been under his care for over fifteen years and have recommended him to my closest friends. Additionally, illnesses which appeared un-diagnosable by others have been diagnosed and cured by Dr. Burke. more

Dr B Steven Burke 3/31/2006

DO NOT GO....patients wait 3-6 hours. My husband would still have his legs and maybe his own kidney if he had sent us out to see a specialist. He tries to keep you with him and tells you he can take care of all your needs and that you do not need to see a specialist. He is dangerous and your health will be in danger. Many things that happened I would like to forget and I have many stories that would make your mouth drop. Stay away!!!! more
