I noticed some negative review about interaction with management and those trying to book a room. My review is based on having attended a wedding there. My cousin was getting married and this was by FAR one of the best weddings I went to. The food was fantastic and the cocktail hour was beyond; with the most wonderful seafood and amazing assortments. The atrium was beautiful. A really beautiful and well run place. I loved it. As an FYI...I am not as familiar with others of the NJ area but the area where they are located seemed not the safest. However; all is done inside parking etc. and once you are in there it is one of the best catering halls I have been to. more

This is the worst run bussiness I have ever had the displeasure to work with. Several years ago I booked a reservation for their Easter buffet. I dealt with Tommy one of the ownerns that time. He quoted me a price of $28 per person for the buffet. When we arrived we were delighted by the food display, and the food was good. Then my credit card bill arrived, and I found I had been billed twice for the same meal. Once at $33 a person, and once at $35 a person. I phoned the brownstone to resolve the matter, and was told that since Tommy took the reservation I would have to speak to him. Well after 3 weeks of making phone calls and leaving messages, I had had it and threated to phone the better bussiness breau. It wasn't till then did he decide to resolve the matter. Somthing that should have been done with one call.\r \r This past Easter we decided to give them another chance.\r I reserved seating for 9 in February. Great service & amazing food 4/27/2010

We recently held a bridal shower at The Brownstone and it couldn't have gone better. The staff was extremely helpful and brought us extra tables to set up favors for the guests. They were also courteous throughout the event asking if I needed anything of if there was some way they could help. And the food was DELICIOUS! Their pierogies, penne with vodka, eggplant rollatini, and beef tips pizzaiola were incredible. The only trouble is there's too much great food on the menu to choose from! \r The Brownstone helped make my sister's bridal shower an elegant and successful event. more

WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL 1/24/2010

What a wonderful Place! Sure the location is not great but the food and service is exellent! The first person i met was Milley! She helped me with directions back home when i walked in. The food OUT OF THIS WORLD! Service great! as i sat down for dinner Luke the asst walked over to each table making sure the food was ok for everone. He took his time table by table. Making sure the meat was cooked ok for everyone. I could not finish mine so luke wrapped it up for me to go. I must say the staff was great!! I left with a smile on my face! If your ever there! ask for miley of Luke they will take great care of you.. more

Brownstone House is disrespectful 11/24/2009

Big fat gray haired guy cursed my videographer and DJ, tried to steal equipment, they were rushed out of the room for another party after only 15 minutes and they were threatened with violence. I heard noise from the other parties going on. Meal was no better than hospital food. DO NOT HIRE THESE BROWNSTONE PIGS. more

Brownstone House is horrible 11/13/2009

This place is nothing more than a factory. It looks nice - but the service and food are horrible. First off it took FOREVER to even find out if they had our date available. We made several phone calls but evidently the ONE person who checks the book was never available. I find them to be rude on the phone. We deiced not to book our event there. SInce then we have been at the Brownstone for various events. At one event, our food was over an hour late coming out and when it fianally did come out many people's chicken was RAW on the inside. The room next to us had a loud DJ which made it impossible to hear our speaker. My suggestion is to stay away form this DUMP! more

Brownstone House is 1 10/6/2009

I thought is horrible driving there and the place was pretty but not what I expected,especially the roaches in the bathroom,by the way no one did anything about not even tried to.i personally spoke to luke and I stated that i wanted to speak to caroline and I was very upset and he told me I was rude Isn't that just wonderful,so my experience there will nver be recommended to anyone I know.not mention you need a police escort to get to the place,also the stsff was so rude it was unbelievable you would think they be concerned about someone seeing roaches I mean really if they are in the bathroom they are most likely in the kitchen and luke the asst. did not even care or check, his exact words were I am only an opinon,but his is not good at what he does cause my opinon leads to another along with the Health dept,but he was rude and so was the hostess.It is a shame that people don't care about anyone but themselves more

Upsetting 4/7/2009

I had heard wonderful things about The Brownstone and when I got there for a bridal consultation, I as completely let down. Overcrowded is not the word for this place and the decor is very undesirable. The staff was unprofessional and rude! While we were meeting with the OWNER, his twenty-something relatives where cursing and telling inappropriate stories right behind us. TVs were also blasting throughout the office during our consultation. For the fear of being deemed a Bridezilla, I endured a most uncomfortable situation. No bride deserves this treatment!!!! more

These people just catered an off-site event for me last weekend and while the food was excellent, the service and management is AWFUL. Definitely not worth working with these people. They're rude and arrogant and unorganized. I'm planning a wedding right now myself (thankfully NOT here) and would NEVER recommend this place. BRIDES BEWARE! more

Banquet Manager is unprofessional... 2/25/2009

I have have been to many functions at The Brownstone, and have enjoyed the affair as well as the food. However, when I tried to book the glass atrium room for a bridal shower, I ran into some trouble. Initially, I was told the room was available for my date, and over the phone we were given a great price for a brunch event. Days later, when I was finally able to get someone on the phone about signing a contract, the manager was rude and insisted that I pay more per plate because now someone else was interested in the room for a wedding the same afternoon as my shower. More or less, he wanted to charge me more per guest because by booking my event he would lose out on a big ticket wedding - even though I had agreed to give him my business first. This was not really fair at all, but we negotiated a little. We really wanted the glass atrium room, so we agreed to pay a dollar a head more and offered to sign a contract. You should try Riverside Manor 12/25/2008

I had very similar experience as well, they are just so busy that they dont even care about getting your business. Then my friend and I went to see the grand opening of Riverside Manor last week and let me tell you,it is beautiful, elegant and much more intimate. Met with the Owners and Manager and booked my wedding for this June. The manager treated us dinner and let us sample all the food in our package. Worse Experience 11/24/2008

I'm getting married in 2010. I made an appt with the Brownstone b/c friends had told me how great they were. When we arrived there were four parties/ events going on. When we entered the office there were five guys sitting in the middle of the office watching the football game. The guy started going over the packages they have but he wasn't all into it, he just kept looking at the tv. I couldn't believe he was watching the game while he's meeting with us. Then he attempted to show us around, I say attempted b/c we couldn't really see the rooms or the garden b/c other parties were going on. I think it was very unprofessional. He should've scheduled us to come on a day where there aren't as many parties or before the parties start. And second he shouldn't have been watching the game or had people in his office watching the game while he was meeting with us. Nice building and food ok. The big problem is the noise level from other parties. They usually hold 4 to 6 events at a time. Last time I was there I heard our music was drowned out by other parties, and this was an early afternoon affair. Also parking is horrible, when they are fully booked it is impossible to find a place to park. I would agree with the above post about poor service by management. The last time we were there it was an event we held. It was a small function about 60 people and found it difficult to get calls returned by anyone. The reason they are so busy is that there are not many places like it near by to hold functions. Bottom line I would not hold an event there, I would recommend to someone wanting to hold a special event like a wedding to think twice. You may wind up listening to another party's music all night.\r \r You might want to consider The Paris Inn in Wayne. A short drive from there and had good service there. Terrible Place-owner disrespectful and heartless!!! 8/5/2007

I was told that the night I wanted for my wedding was available so I made an appointment to go in.Get there, the owner tells me that the place was actually reserved by someone who they believed would be a no-show. I was surprised to hear this since he said no such thing on the phone. Still, I loved the place and he told me the likelihood of it being available was 95%. He said by the next day noon time he would know for sure whether or not it was available for me. I was asked to call him after 2pm to find out. I explained to him how important it is for me to find out because getting the location was crucial considering the fact that there wasn't much time left. I called the next day , the day afer then a couple of days after that.....I made a third and final call. I explained to the receptionist that it was urgent that I find out if a specific date was available. She said she saw my name in the list of messages that he had already received. Great Place, Poor Location 2/10/2006

My fiance and his mom highly recommended this place to us, as they attended a few functions there and had a great time. The best part was the food. So we scheduled an appointment to meet with a banquet manager. The bad thing is that our appointment was for 9pm on a Tuesday night, and we live in NY.\r \r When we got there, there was a tricky tray auction happening. So the place was packed. However, the staff was friendly and offered us something to drink. \r \r We met with a lovely banquet manager who showed up around. I loved the various rooms, but it was just too busy for my tastes. Not to mention, I wasn't keen on having guests from NY driving through Paterson late at night. \r \r Nevertheless, the Brownstone had so much to offer at a great price. I would have definitely considered it more if the majority of our guests weren't from NY, but from NJ.\r \r However, if I get invited to an event there, I'll definitely attend. Been twice 11/10/2005

I have been to the Brownstone for two different types of events. One was a Wedding Rehersal Dinner and the other was for a Beef Steak Dinner. Both of the times were good experiences. Both times I sat in the room with all the glass windows (forget what its called). Its so nice back there, alittle chilly but nice! The food is excellent and the service is good too. Definitely a nice place have a party!!! more
