Broom Hilda Cleaning

Many times your first impressions will dictate if you want to work with a person or not, I should have went with my gut instinct and looked elsewhere! When I was first called to set up an appointment this women spoke to me in a very derogatory manner, I figured that she was mad at her boss and was having a bad day! Turns out-she was the business owner and she was rough around the edges to say the least. When asked for a quote she snapped at me and insisted that my boss knows what to expect as he has used her business in the past. A woman of her caliber (a business owner conducting business with another business owner in a close knit community) shouldn't have been so downright rude right off the bat. I did as I was directed and set up the appointment with her. When I received the second phone call from her she again did not make the phone call a pleasant one to take. Not just a little bit rude, allot rude. She was very harsh with her words and acted as if I was a complete waste of her time. Very hard to conduct business with someone when you want to slam the phone in their face. After the work was complete (a so so job that I could have hired my own teenage child to complete had I known it was so simple). The job, seemed to take no time at all altho the owner acted as if they needed an entire day. The kicker is when we receive a bill for a jaw dropping amount. I had my very own employees want to open up a business of their own to rake in the dough! They thought to themselves- WOW! With a razor blade, Family Dollar ammonia, paper towels and a bucket of water and we can be rich! I feel the hours logged was ballooned- This is no way to conduct business in a small community where people rely on one another for referrals. The owner in my opinion, needs a class in Customer Service and perhaps they will teach her how to speak to prospective customers, and possibly even tell her to change her business message! That right off the bat is a bit jarring and should be used as a warning to STEER CLEAR & continue your search elsewhere. MY Reference Note: NOT AVAILABLE FOR RE-HIRE! more

While the quality of the work is OK, the owner is rough and rude and unprofessional when dealing with clients and the price is beyond ridiculous (really--three times that of other firms). Sadly, the owner started out with a good idea years ago and now just wants to gouge people locally who don't know what a housecleaner or window washer should make. Me thinks she is laughing at Ithaca all the way to the bank. My husband did not ask for a quote up front and he nearly fainted when I told him what the final bill was. more

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. I'm a mother of four (all under the age of 15!) so wanted to give myself a break after the holiday chaos. Well the cleaning girls from Broom Hilda's arrived late, left early, and I wound up cleaning the whole house anyhow because they did such a lousy job. Seriously folks just spend the money and get a QUALITY service. Owner is unfriendly too. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Sloppy and unprofessional; YOU wind up cleaning afterwards more

They made my old house and contents SPARKLE. In these ""different"" times, it's nice to find a company that not only provides a needed service but that also really cares. I found the staff were people who I felt safe with when they were working in my home. \r \r I am very satisfied. ive used this service for 5 months, every week and they're great. I dont know what these other reviewers are talking about. THe owner has been nothing but great to me and the girls that come are friendly and prompt. the prices are reasonable too. I would definitely recommend them. I asked both the person I spoke to on the phone and the girls that showed up at my home to do a very thorough job. They were gone within an hour (they left while we were gone for a few minutes taking my son to camp), and hadn't done much more than mop the floors. They did not clean the bathtub, the bathroom mirrors or any of the fixtures. They did not dust anything in the upstairs rooms, despite the fact that I told them to focus on dusting everything. They did not wipe down the refrigerator or any of our tables. Avoid this service like the plague! more

Service and customer care have rapidly worsened in the past year with this agency, which was once one of the area's better cleaning services. Calls are rarely returned. Workers are overbooked and stay no more than one hour for a job that requires at least two. Not even the bare minimum (i.e. completely dusting the dining room table) can be expected, and the dust and dirt just piles up, especially behind and in the furniture. The company takes no pride in their work, and the workers are constantly complaining about their employer. My new appliances are completely scratched because scouring pads were used on the surfaces. Better to pay more with a quality, reputable company than to pay what you think is a reasonable price and than have to re-do it yourself. Pros: None. Cons: A total thumbs down. more

We hired this company to clean for us. You never get the same cleaners- they are unfriendly, and don't clean what visably needs to be cleaned. The owner Betsy Cleveland doesn't return calls or rectify issues.\r They don't get much worse than this! more

Broom Hilda's is inexpensive. The first few times they did a great job but it has been getting progressively worse. A few times I had to re-clean! They are very flexible for times and will willingly book in an emergency. This is exactly what they are good for, if you don't have a regular. Perfectly average, not terribly friendly. I was (mistakenly?) overcharged by the employees and have had great difficulty in resolving the problem with the owner. She essentially said that I must be wrong, and has refused to refund the overcharged amount. Pros: Responded to my request for cleaning right away, and had a crew available within 24 hours. Cons: Wrote down the wrong week for the cleaning, then overcharged me and refused to refund the excess. more
