Editorial review from Citysearch 7/5/2012

We were treated with no respect and a ""Holier than thou"" attitude. I wished I never brought my dog there. I too thought the recomendations were true and by other people who brought their pet there. I asked that he feed Harrison (my dog) twice per day, however said he feeds all dogs once per day at same time. ""Dogs don't eat much during the heat, so once is good enough. He then put Harrison in the cage, rolled down the sides (to block from sun) like he was a convict. My girlfriend picked him up only to be surprised by his attitude. NEVER EVER WILL I BRING MY DOG TO THIS PLACE. I would think twice (if you care for your pet) about boarding them at this place. Plus, no matter how early you pick them up, you pay for the whole day. Please contact me if you have any questions or want further examples. NEVER AGAIN! more

All Dogs Go To Heaven. 9/25/2011

Our experience at Briarwood Kennel has been positive from day one. We have sincere gratitude towards Dave for bringing our beloved goldendoodle Shannon into our world! It truly is a whole new world for us. The grooming facility at Briarwood is fully equipped with all the tools necessary to keep our Shannon looking pretty and stylish. Considering the longevity of his career with animals, Dave's knowledge, skill and expertise with the animals at Briarwood is A+ across the board. more

convenient and clean place to board your dogs 9/9/2011

I have been using Briarwood to board my 3 dogs since moving to the south shore last year. The place is convenient; just off rt 53 and is well maintained.Dave offers advice and answers my questions that help me to manage our pack. more

My pup Noah was raised with LOVE!! 9/8/2011

Julie and I bought a pup golden pup named Noah from briarwood kennels, my first impression of the facility was, ""this place is very clean and so full of love!"" We watched dave interact with the dogs and it was amazing how he treats and cares for the dogs. We also got to participate in the bathing and grooming part of the facility, with our very own new family member, Noah. more

Superb Kennel!!! 9/8/2011

BRIARWOOD IS TOPS!!! I've been taking my dog to Dave for the past 4 years and each time I drop her off and pick her up she is happy, healthy and well groomed. I've learned to be a better pet owner because of Dave and what he's taught me! I have referred many friends to Briarwood and will continue to do so. A++++ more

Best Kennel South of Boston 9/7/2011

We have been going to Dave for over 20 years and have purchased 2 pure bred retrievers. Dave's love for animals borders on the obsessive and we can't think of a place where we would be more comfortable boarding our two beloved dogs. His standards are extremely high and he becomes personally attached to your pet. We could not recommend him more highly. more

An amazing experience at Briarwood : ) 9/3/2011

I Called today today about cutting my 2 tuxedo cats nails and the owner suggested I bring them in to be filed instead. I went right over & Dave did them on the spot. They came out great! Dave actually gave us a guided tour. It was amazing clean! He even let out a bunch dogs for me and my mom to play with, it was so much fun! We got to give them bones which they were fetching out of their own little doggie pool which had filters to keep it clean : ) He even let us see some little tiny newborn pups which were also well cared for and inside. As for the previous posts if you say your dog had a scratch or a ""bruise"" lol. Dogs play and a sratch or two can happen considering they are well socialized there. And being scared and losing weight may have alot to do with you leaving he/she in an unknown place with someone they are not use to and if your dog has never been this stimulated by other dogs before can also be a reason. Try using a pet sitter instead next time. Thanks again Dave you did a great job with my girls, wish I would of found you before they found my carpet lol. Will definatley be back and I highly recommend Daves services more

Dave is a butcher 8/26/2011

The owner doesn't care about our pets, he just care about your money. When I picked up my dog, it had a lot of scars on his face so I didn't want to pay but Dave had the balls to show me the check. Nobody would pay after that kind of service. If my dog doesn't feel better I will sue Briarwood and Dave. more

Just disgusting 8/26/2011

Don't even bother to bring your pet here, this place is disgusting and the owner should learn how to treat pets. Even a butcher would treat them better. more

One star or less 8/26/2011

Obviously all the good reviews were written by the owner. Please don't bring your pet here and don't be fool by the good self-written reviews as I did. My dog came back home scared and hungry. I regret so much I kennel my dog here. more

Go somewhere else 8/26/2011

This place is not just disgusting but the owner don't even care about our pets. The grooming service is the worst in town, even my five year old son can do a better job. The kennel should be shut down, this guy doesn't even feed our pets and he doesn't bring them for a walk. Any other place is cheaper and your dog/cat will be happier. I will put a negative star if I could. more

Worst than the streets 8/26/2011

After five days of being on this kennel, my puppy came back home with bruises on her face and head, she lost 10 pounds and the heartless' owner of this kennel didn't even bother to give her some water or food. Do your pet a favor and don't bring it here. more

Never Again 8/21/2011

I am horrified by the way that my dog was treated at this facility. She came home severely dehydrated, having lost six pounds in five days and had gashes of missing fur under her chin and on her nose. She looked absolutely terrified. She had scabs all over her head and a sore on her stomach. She is a 7 month old puppy who was left with much larger dogs during communal feedings - I imagine she was attacked every time that she tried to eat. She was kept in a small cage with other dogs and was never walked or let into a green space (do NOT be fooled by the website). She came home filthy and looking like a stray and my always energetic and happy pupy laid down in the back of my car and barely moved. She drank three bowls of water right after she came home and did nothing but eat for two days. All of my interactions with him were uncomfortable, rude and abrupt. He tried to hold my dog down to look at the gashes after I confronted him and she ran away from him terrified. I tried to put a stop payment on my check, but Dave cashed the check right after I left. I tried to get my money back but Dave seems to think that a three inch gash underneath my puppy's chin is a normal injury. I was horrified and can't help but wonder what would have happened to my pup if I hadn't come home early. more

GREAT GROOMING 1/17/2011

I have been bringing my dog to David for four years now. He knows everything about dogs and how to deal with them. My dog can get crazy but I don't worry because David knows how to deal with him. I also kennel him there and have had no problems at all!!! more

The BEST GROOMER and BOARDER! 1/11/2011

We purchased our Goldendoodle from Dave in 2009. How fortunate we are for such a terrific dog! We became so knowledgable about Goldendoodles because of Dave. From the beginning Dave let us view the pups, which for my boys was a wonderful experience to see the newborn pups only days old. We stopped by and visited, held them and really had a wonderful experience leading up to choosing our Oliver. We are so grateful for the opportunity to experience the pups, take pictures and watching them grow so young! We go to Dave to board Oliver, he trained him early on and groom him regularly. He does a fantastic job. We are so comfortable with him and know that our dog is in the best care while there. Dave Loves Dogs, he connects with them and helps you understand them better too. He is a master! Dave has great accomodations and my dog is actually happy to go when we bring him there, he's excited when he see's his ""friends"" there, Dave's own dogs, and other boarders. Its our dog's vacation away from us! ;) His grooming talent is an art, he doesn't just cut, he knows the breeds and works hard and carefully to make them look perfect. There are many groomers who do not maintain the ""doodle"" look, not Dave. He is extremely thorough in looking at your dog as well while grooming. Just recently he recognized an issue with my dog's gland that had he not noticed would have easily become a very serious problem. We would never consider going anywhere else! Thanks Dave. more

Knows Dogs 12/14/2010

My first experience with Dave was in October of this year when I went to Mexico and had to leave my Husky for 10 days. The thing I like most about it was the fact that my dog would be with other dogs most of the time. Dave matched my dog up with a dog simular in age and energy level and they just ""have at it!"" The grooming was the best. I have been to pet smart and petco and nothing compared to the hair removal that Dave does. He has the specialty tools for the job. I leave my dog as often as I can at Briarwood even just for the exercise. I would highly recomend Dave for your pets more

Stop looking! 11/23/2010

In short: Take my word for it, I've tried just about every dog groomer and kennel business on the South Shore. Stop all that Googling and just pick this guy! Long version: When I go away for business, the dog's gotta stay somewhere. Usually I splurge on a grooming while I'm there. By the time I tried Briarwood, I was fed up with the other businesses in the area. I had high standards but little hope, and believe it or not, this business won me over. The owner just plain knows dogs. He doesn't treat your dog like he's afraid of it or like he's afraid of YOU. He's not timid. Instead, and this is refreshing, he treats your dog like he's another dog. Watching him groom my pet, I imagined him like my neighbors dog rolling him around. He UNDERSTANDS dogs, plain and simple. My dog is scared to death of nail trimmings, no matter who does it. He usually is scared for long after it's done. It takes someone like Dave to calm the dog down and get the job done as quick as possible. And he's ready to go right after! NO complaints on overnight stays either, great value. more

The Worst! 7/1/2010

This is the worst one-man run business I have ever encountered! My dog stayed overnight and was not fed or given water. The owner, Dave, was condescending and critical. The office was filthy and unkempt. Dave complained about the all the noise the dogs make when someone picks up their dog, and how he is consistently getting complaints from the neighbors. I would not recommend this business. There are many great kennels on the South Shore, use them, not this one. Cons: Many more
