The Secret to Brent's Deli 4/25/2012

The food is awesome, and everyone knows it! So it's standing room only, waiting for a table, elbow to elbow~ eh! If you hate that kind of scene, if you're a barfly, if you'ld rather sit in a plush wrap-around booth and stare at a tv over a bar than listen to everyone around you try to chat louder than the table next to them, then GO next door to the StovePiper Lounge, where they will happily order your Brent's Deli order and have it sent over. Best of both worlds! more

Also posted on YELP Molecular G. Molecular Gastronomy rocks, freezes and gels Los Angeles, CA 5 star rating 2/26/2011 Our waitress WENDEE couldn't have been nicer. Full of personality, helpful, efficient and knows her menu. She also put up with us as first timers and very picky about Deli's east and west coast. We are not easy, but can be easily pleased with Great service and food. Thanks WENDEE and staff for making this wonderful. We travelled some 48 miles each way on this blustery, raining, sleeting saturday. The place was packed, but waiting was less than 10 minutes. The service and food were exceptional. Wendee helped us decide on the whats and why's each test dish would be good. The immediate family of Phils Seafood sent us there. May G-d rest Irv. With this reference we entered sort of starving and left with memories of my youth and a carbon copy clone of Bubby Cohens Beef barley Soup, Uncle Manny's Corned beef on extraordinary double baked sour rye, Fried Kreplach with grilled onions, Knaidelech the size of a softball, delicious in the chicken soup with just like home noodles. A Doctor Browns and Diet coke finished it off. Wendee was at the table at least 7 times and her counterparts came by a few times as well. The buss boys and cashiers were great. Then the to go orders, OMG more of the same. There was WENDEE making sure our to go order was to our liking. The counter help could have been from South Poland, knew their stuff, sliced it perfectly and presented it extremely well. Like Perfect.....Perfect Rice and bread puddings, breads, bagels and what else did I nosh on long 1.7 hour in the rain drive home. BEEF BARLEY I dont usually pay attention to Zagats anything, but at least they agree for 14 years.. How about a Torrance or Beach Cities location? more

Real Drek and pricey too! 9/13/2010

I've eaten there three times over the past two years. In my judgment, this food is so lousy that it seems impossible that it could be either cooked, eaten, owned or operated by my fellow Jews. The chicken soup is unspeakably bad. The potato pancakes are overcooked with second tier sour cream. The bread is also lousy. I think the only people who eat there and "love it" are those who have never eaten real deli and don't know any better. This is clearly the worst of the long list of infinitely better deli options in the LA area.....from Canter's, Greenblatt's, Nate & Al's, Art's Deli, Jerry's, Factor's and Langer's. These guys at Brent's are getting away with murder. Imagine having an "egg cream" made with 2 percent milk or water. Ok? Get it now? They violate the three tenets of a good deli: chicken soup, bread and sour cream. If these aren't good, all hope is lost. Eh..What's the big deal...we're not curing Cancer. However, if you're desperate for food and everyone else is closed, I'd recommend it. Otherwise, hold out for MREs. more

Good food and delivery 5/27/2010

We were looking for a good deli close by -- usually we would do Mort's in Tarzana, but that's a litte far for us now. Brents had a great menu, great dishes, and nice deserts. I had a cornbeef on pastrami and rye, which was decent. The black and whites from the bakery were wonderful, top notch. Definitely a place we will keep on our go-to list. Pros: Great menu more

I've just returned to LA after 7 years 5/27/2010

and went to Brent's for the first time since I've been away. It's nowhere as good as I remember, and has gotten very expensive. $20 for a corned beef sandwich and a drink, tax, and tip is a lot of money.. more

A Pleasant Surprise 1/27/2009

My boyfriend and I are always on the hunt to find the best sandwich in this part of the valley. I had read about Brent's online and decided we should try it. It was by far the best sandwich that I've had in a long while. The french dip turkey and pastrami sandwich was to die for. Brent's is a bit expensive for the sandwich, but you'll discover it's well worth it when you take the first bite! more

Brent's...You're still the one 1/6/2009

Without hesitation I can say this is your best bet for GREAT deli fare. My family has been eating at Brent's since the joint opened, and we've never been dissapointed with the food or the service. The catering is awesome for a low-key get together. Pros: Tasty tasty tasty! Cons: Decor is stuck in 1978, but this may actually contribute to the awesomeness. more

Without hesitation I can say this is your best bet for GREAT deli fare. My family has been eating at Brent's since the joint opened, and we've never been dissapointed with the food or the service. The catering is awesome for a low-key get together. Over the years I spent many a hot Sunday afternoon waiting patiently for a table. As the minutes passed I daydream about the tasty chicken noodle soup, the succulent hot pastrami sandwich (or Monte Cristo...depending on our mood), the decadent chocolate eclair. Sometimes when I don't have the time to wait, I phone in my order to-go and bypass the line! Pros: Tasty tasty tasty! Cons: Decor is stuck in 1978, but this may actually contribute to the awesomeness. more

My friend told me how great Brent's was. 12/20/2008

My friend told me how great Brent's e was. So I went in for a quick lunch and find that the place is really packed. I was by myself so i was seated pretty quickly. I got the French Dip, and usually im always disappointed by it everywhere i go. They did one hell of a job for just a French Dip. And the potato salad is to die for. more
