Best

If you have to choose one restaurant to go to in San Francisco, it should be Boulevard. Boulevard is...

Worst

We went to the Boulevard for dinner on a Saturday night (our last night in SF). We were really excited about it since I made the reservations a few weeks ahead of time and everyo...

Excellent 7/3/2003

Excellent. The food was imaginative and beautifully presented. We tried the tuna tartare appetizer and a lovely salad with cherries, spanish almonds, and toasts with goat cheese. Desserts were also delicious - the warm chocolate cake with hazelnut cookie dough ice cream sundae, and a blackberry tart with a creme brulee filling and a superbly buttery crust. Service was good, but not outstanding, especially given the quality of the food and the prices. Pros: romantic more

A bit over hyped 6/18/2003

On our visit to San Francisco we were told we must try Boulevards. The place is nice, larger then I thought it would be. The food and service was good but the way people talked about it I thought it would be much more spectacular. I was also surprised at how some people overly dressed up and some the opposite. This restaurant reminded me of Daily Grill, an expensive Daily Grill. more

Incredible Food-CreativeMenu-Great Staff 6/16/2003

Just ate there! The hostess accomidated us no matter what we threw at her-table for 3 turned into table for 5...wanted to be seated in the back...not a problem! etc... Great food-everything from the starters (crab legs-tuna tartare-dayboat scallops-foie gras was exceptional...) to the main courses (two salmons-pork tenderloin was incredible-filet mignon-halibut) the only downside was that we didn't have a chance to order dessert (our schedule) FYI diners...I understand that people go out for special occasions...BUT DON'T TAKE UP TABLE SPACE OPENING UP PRESENTS/GIFTS! You're at a restaurant...you are holding up other diners/patrons who want to eat. You are sitting at a table-don't be so self centered as to sit there holding the table opening presents. Have some manners! more

Top-Notch SF Restaurant 5/13/2003

It is easy to see why Boulevard is a favorite. The food is incredible. For lunch, we had an assortment of dishes; salmon, filet of beef, and sole. The fish was flaky, tender, fresh, and prepared so the flavor could shine through. I didn't taste the beef, but the two beef connoisseurs at the table pronounced it one of the best cuts they had had in years. The side dishes, especially the potato cake, were very good. We shared two desserts - the creme brulee and the warm chocolate-hazelnut cake with a hazelnut ice cream sundae. Both were outstanding. The one drawback to the dining experience was the waitress. She was lovely in all respects but one; because of our seeming youth, she pointed us to the non-alcoholic drink portion of the menu. Especially at lunchtime during the workweek, this was slightly embarassing and detracted from an otherwise delightful lunch. Pros: Incredible Food, Lovely Ambiance Cons: Youth-Sensitive more

mike wong 5/12/2003

I had the fillet mignon it was the best iv eaten the soup and sand dab appetizers were the best. anyone on atkins diet would love this place because there are no rice or potato dishes Pros: great location, service, nice bar Cons: no carbohydrates, price more

The food deserves better! 3/31/2003

The Good: the food was superb. The cheese selection was interesting and presented beautifully; my lobster bisque was creamy and filled with sweet lobster flavour. My Osso Bucco was fall of the bone tender, juicy and so flavorful. I would've sucked the bone if I were somewhere else. The butterfish was sweet and perfectly flaky, served with buttery beans. No dessert - too full. The bad: valet was a must, and it wasn't cheap. The decor was really bad - two words: Cheesecake Factory. It was a heavy-handed, overwrought interpretation of Belle Epoque. Dining room is also very noisy and cramped. The ugly: The seating hostesses (condescending and snooty). Tried to seat us near 'siberia', using 'we're very busy' as an excuse (we had reservations) and rude when we pointed out that there were plenty of tables available. Our waitress, however, was wonderful. We agreed that the food deserved better. Pros: The food, The food, The food Cons: The seating hostesses, Parking, Noise / Ambiance more

AMAZING!!! 2/5/2003

We had reservations and had to wait for 45 minutes -- but it was worth it! The food was great! Excellent salad and seafood! more

you won't be disappointed! 1/27/2003

Everything I ordered exceeded my expectations by far. The menu is inventive and exceptional. The wine list is massive and my choices from it were great. My only complaint would be that it is loud and crowded, also, it may have just been a fluke but our waiter was not very attentive. While these might be major flaws at a lesser restaurant, the food more than made up for it at Boulevard. Pros: the food, the wine list, the design Cons: the service, the acoustics more

DAT at it's Best! 1/23/2003

Went to lunch for DAT and it was beyond great. I've been to other places for DAT and it doesn't even compare. I'm definitely going to have to eat at this place at full price. Pros: Food more

great place 12/13/2002

this place is great and should be at the top of anybody's trip to The City more

don't believe the hype!!! 10/17/2002

This place is way over-rated. How can it be romantic if I can't even hear myself talking? It is so noisy in there, and the food does not worth the price. If you want romantic and you can afford this place, try Masa or Fleur de Ly's. You will never have a better foie gras than Aqua's WHOLE foie gras dish. Pros: nothing Cons: noisy, not worth the price, noisy more

Boulevard is Still the Destination 9/16/2002

Boulevard is still at the pinnacle of San Francisco restaurants after all these years. Rated the number one restaurant in Northern California by Zagat, it has a lofty reputation! And it doesn't disappoint. The inside of the restaurant is magnificent. A wonderful blend of nostalgia and modernity. The food is delicious with the lamb and duck leading the way. The service is both welcoming and sophisticated at the same time, which is rare these days. The wine list is strong. The dessert menu is good but perhaps a little pedestrian. Reservations, often made several weeks in advance, are a must because Blvd. remains ultra popular. Pros: delicious, popular, super service Cons: crowded, noisy more

One of the City's Best 9/13/2002

Everything at Boulevard's is top notch...from the service to the fresh food. The daily specials are a sure hit and the dining main dining room offers great views. more

Too noisy - nothing special 9/12/2002

Had a much more crowded feel than should be for a restaurant of this reputation. Hard to have a conversation with your companions. Way too noisy. Food good but not anything special. Wouldn't go back. Gary Danko much better. more

Hungry... 9/12/2002

The experience left me hungry, with all the pomp and presentation Boulevard had fallen short of my expectations, the food was good, the ambience nice...this is what I would call a first date place to show off and take a date. But if your looking for cosy and down to earth portions and prices for that matter this is not your haunt, pretty good wine list, though I must say the service and ambiance far exceeded the food. Pros: Nice Ambiance, Valet Parking, Great location Cons: Expensive, Small Portions more

Upscale treat 9/8/2002

Came here twice with friends and both times left happily satisfied! Try the oysters in a half shell and the lamb...SUPERB. Ambience is cozy, intimate, and classy...definitely a romantic and gorgeous surrounding. It IS a bit pricey, but what isnt in San Francisco?? Great treat. more

Above and Beyond 8/26/2002

By far one of the best restaurants in the city! It goes above and beyond other good restaurants nearby. If you enjoy fresh seafood, you will be in heaven. more

Taste and service. 8/20/2002

Excellent. Firstly, I will address the food. The presentation was simple and elegant. Delicious, yet unpretentious. The service was impeccable. During my dinner I noticed a fellow diner leave the table and immediately a serving dome was placed over the plate. My fellow epicurean was not back in his seat 2 seconds when the dome was whipped from the table. This sort of server attention was a constant factor throughout the night. Impressive to say the least. You cannot put a price on flavour and service of this caliber. To do so would be vulgar. The ambience is very nice. Well lit, with an attractive interior. In all, Boulevard is top notch and should be a regular destination on your dining travels. more

A little bit of Paris... 8/20/2002

This restaurant is continues to be one of the best in the city. The food is always superb, the service attentive and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere, particularly the detailed mosaic design in the bar area, elegant. Whenever I want to impress someone from out of town - I take them here. I've been with large groups, and just myself and one other person - and I've never been disappointed. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Excellent cuisine and service 8/8/2002

Must try the foie gras appetizer - excellent. Great atmosphere and location. Highly recommended! Pros: Good Service, Great food, Location Cons: Expensive more
