Best

If you have to choose one restaurant to go to in San Francisco, it should be Boulevard. Boulevard is...

Worst

We went to the Boulevard for dinner on a Saturday night (our last night in SF). We were really excited about it since I made the reservations a few weeks ahead of time and everyo...

Much ado about nothing 9/4/2006

Even with a reservation we got seated only 15 minutes later. more

good food, but below average service 8/16/2006

I guess I had very high expectations from this restaurant. I was expecting a ""dining experience"" like at Gary Danko or something but instead it was an expensive, loud and crowded restaurant with below average service. Pros: great location for view and pre/post-dinner stroll, easy parking Cons: service more

Rushed Service - Tiny Portions 8/6/2006

In the past my sister and I have always thoroughly enjoyed our dinners at Boulevard. This past Friday we had a reservation, arrived on time, and were looking forward to another great experience. Unfortunately, this was not the case. We felt quite rushed as the moment we finished our salad the main course was placed in front of us. Our portions were tiny and for an expensive meal we were in and out in one hour and still hungry. I doubt we will return. more

Not sure about all the fuss 7/26/2006

I'm not sure how this restaurant wins the best restaurant category year after year. Not that it's bad but it's surely not the best. The food was good, but it's not anything special. The best part was the appetizers: we had creamed corn soup with shrimp and abalone. It seems a bit ridiculous to pay $40 for filet mignon when it's not prepared any differently than I might have at home. With the same amount of money, I'd rather spend it on Michael Mina or Fleur de Lys or Gary Danko. Pros: great service, nice ambiance Cons: not great quality or value for the money more

Great romantic night out! 7/18/2006

Great romantic place!!! The seating makes it very cozy and the food was excellent!!! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Great place to eat before you grab a show!!! Pros: Great food and ambience Cons: Must make a reservation! more

Avoid the fish 7/6/2006

It's been several years since we've been back to Boulevard and I was so looking forward to the food. This is one of the most well-staffed restaurants in town. No less than 10 chefs on the line in an open cooking arena, and our bus boy and wait person, Liz, were very attentive. She was so pleasant and nice that it just made for a good dining experience. The organic salad with blue cheese, candied walnuts and a poached pear was fine but I expected more for the $13 price tag. Would recommend ordering the foie gras with rib eye appetizer instead as it was very good. The pan-seared Calif sea bass arrived at the table smelling fishy and bland tasting. What saved the dish was the mushroom risotto with truffle shavings. The lamb with about 2 chops was good with greens and potato. Dessert was worth trying. The Meyer lemon brulee was a thin layer of brulee over a berry crusty cobbler that tasted like a tart. It was very refreshing and had just the right about of tang to it. The berry custard cake was good but I prefered the Meyer lemon brulee. For entrees that were well over $30, I expected the sea bass to be better, but the rest of the meal was great & the employees were friendly even tho' they had over 260 meals to prepare that day. Pros: ambience, good service, well-staffed Cons: parking, avoid the fish more

Died & Gone to Heaven 6/29/2006

We dined here a few months back and I keep forgetting to review it. Pros: EVERYTHING was perfect (how often can you say THAT about a restaurant???) more

Nice place 6/29/2006

This is a pretty restaurant. Reminded me of NY for some reason, maybe the entrance. Anyway the food was great, and the desserts...yum yum. I had a dessert trio platter or some such nonsense. The whole experience was great, including the service. more

Great service, fresh ingredients, great wine list 6/10/2006

Great dishes using such fresh ingredients! Every dish had such wonderful flavors that infused with one another in a perfect manner! We enjoyed especially the scallop appetizer, as well as the crab salad. The wild salmon entree was exceptional, poached to perfection. One of the best salmon dishes ever. We dine in New York City quite a bit, but Boulevard definitely is among the top places in our list now. Very lively, and a bit too noisy around the entrance/bar area, but other than that the service was quite impressive, we almost forgot how noisy it was.... Must go if you are in San Francisco! Pros: Great service and fresh seafood Cons: Noisy if seated close to the bar area more

Great, great, great! 6/3/2006

My husband and I were lucky enough to get a table here on a weekday at the last minute for dinner. I thought the food and service were exceptional. The portions are just right and the flavors marry perfectly . . .nothing bland, nothing overdone. I can see how this place could get crazy on the weekends, so I would recommend going on an off time if you can. This was one of the best meals we have ever had. Pros: Food, Service more

Ohh la la 5/15/2006

I went to Boulevard a couple of months back, and it was a great dining experience! my boyfriend and I (both New Yorkers) were visiting SF and we were thrilled to have reservations there for our last dinner in town. the only drawback would be that we felt out of place because we were younger (early 20's) than everyone else there. even one of our servers said a friendly, ""Hiiiiiiiiiiii"" instead of ""Hello, how are you doing tonight?"" we thought it was funny and laughed it off. we loved our food and will definitely go back when we're in SF again! Pros: food, service, ambiance more

Maybe we expected too much... 5/14/2006

Maybe we expected too much...we read about how wonderful this place was supposed to be, so my gf took me their for my birthday, and we were utterly disappointed. CONS: The service was average...our waiter appeared to be having trouble ringing up someone else's bill, which caused him too disappear for extended periods of time. Not once did he apologize for his late/tardiness. The food was below average...I had the filet mignon, it was tough and chewy...my gf had some sort of fish, it was flavor less. PROS: The bartenders were freindly, the busboys (or secondary waiters) kept our water glasses full and kept plenty of bread on our table. The Chicken Fried Steak appetizer was above average. more

Was wary about all the hype but---Oh. My. God. 4/17/2006

Finding ourselves in SF on Friday night, tried to make reservations but they were booked (of course). They said, though, that they sometimes can accommodate walk-ins without reservations so we stopped in and they were able to give us a cozy ""bistro"" table in the bar. We hesitated because it was in the bar but we went for it and it turned out, to my surprise, to be a fun place to be. The food was, in short, incredible. One of the best dining experiences I've had from start to finish. The service was a little rushed but we *were* in the bar and it was an extremely busy Friday night so I'm willing to give them a pass. It was quite expensive, but we spent about the same the next night at Shanghai 1930 for a much, much lesser meal. I would go back to Boulevard in a second. Pros: Great food!, Ambience, Fun Cons: Heavily booked more

Over the years, great service, great food 2/8/2006

Been there 3 times for dinning. Loved the food, loved the service. 4th time - large group - two tables of 20 people. Still extremely good service and good staff. After several years of going love the food and the desserts are great. Not a big fan of the Sea bass dish. Just not great but everything else was great and all the other dishes I have had over the years have been amazing. Another fellow diner did not care for the dish either. But boulevard is my all time SF favorite. They are professional and the best in every aspect. Pros: Food, Service , Presentation Cons: Sea Bass dish, busy more

Over hyped 1/9/2006

Before I went I heard Boulevard was supposed to be one of the best restaurants in SF. I was sort of dissapointed I was expecting the food to be exceptional but sadly it was 'ok' nothing awesome. I didn't get that 'satisfied' feeling that I usually have after I have a great dinner. Don't believe all the hype. Pricing was reasonable for special occasion dining or business lunches/dinners. I wouldn't dismiss going there once though, in the end everyone has their own opinion. Pros: ambience, friendly staff, quick Cons: food more

Delicious!! 1/5/2006

I went to Boulevard, and had a fabulous dinner! For an appetizer, we ordered quail. For dinner, we ordered fish & steak...all of our dishes were fanastic, and the wine was delicious. Some of the cons were that the food came out very fast...we were done with our meal very quickly, and felt a bit rushed. Although the service was friendly and knowledgeable, it would've been nicer to take our time. Also, we sat in the middle of the restaurant where the view of the water & bridge was limited. Overall, it was a nice experience. Pros: Good Parking, Knowledgable Staff, Great Food Cons: A tad loud, A bit rushed more

Wonderful 12/22/2005

Boulevard is now one of my favorite restaurants - service was awesome, very friendly waiter, great service. Food was delicious, I ordered the filet mignon and the meat just melted in my mouth. Dessert was the best dessert I've ever had...I ordered huckleberry something..don't quite remember what it was called. It was a little noisy but the interior was beautiful. I loved it and would go again and again. Just make sure you make reservations Pros: Service, Food Cons: Valet parking more

Great Place! 11/28/2005

I love this place. I had dinner here a few weeks back while I was in San Francisco on business. I sat at the counter and watched the chefs prepare food in front of me. Very cool. I would recommend a reservation. The food was very good so was the service. Nice size portions. The bread is to die for. Highly recommend! Pros: Great service, Great bread Cons: Busy more

food WOW service ATTITUDE PLUS 11/6/2005

the food here is incredible... the service on the other hand leaves alot to be desired. ve Pros: fabulous food Cons: snotty service more

RUDE waitstaff 10/25/2005

We went there for my birthday. There were 12 of us and we had reserved the semi private room. The ambiance was really nice and the food great. I thought it was just me, but my friends and parents also noticed how rude our waiter was. We were pretty courteous and friendly towards him hoping for at least a smile back, but he seemed like he was having a bad day and wanted us to know it. As we were celebrating my bday, I didn't appreciate his bad attitude, esp the way he talked to my parents. He also forgot about my dad's dessert and didn't even apologize. Pros: Amazing food, cozy private room Cons: VERY rude waiter more
