Good,but not great 4/24/2009

If you never had Hibachi before, this is the place you should consider. Food is not bad but nowhere close to high quality. Service is okay, not all chefs are truely Japanese. more

All Around Excellent 8/11/2008

The food is delicious and the wait staff is very courteous. It is a little pricey it can run around around $100 for dinner for two but it is worth the splurge. I would just like to say for the idiot below my review that had this huge birthday bash and was supposedly treated poorly by the valet staff, so you know for future reference the valet service is contracted and not direct employees of benihana. If you are dumb enough to inconvenience your whole son's birthday attendees you must have your head in a different place. That is comparable to taking a lousy cab to a hotel and canceling your hotel reservation because the cabbie was rude. Aside from that person I highly recommend trying the place it is excellent service food and scenery. Pros: Great food Cons: A little pricey more

Totally terrible attitude. Avoid! 1/17/2008

We had a reservation at Benihana's tonight for my son's birthday. As a student of Japanese culture, this was a special treat, planned weeks in advance. However, the valet staff was so rude and obnoxious that we walked in, cancelled our reservation, and left. What a terrible attitude. Everyone in our party agreed that there's no excuse for their behavior. more

Worth going one time but not the second time 2/1/2006

Unless you come with a party of 8, otherwise will be seated with strangers. I ordered the Rocky's Choice ($23.95) with fried rice ($2.25 extra), a side of saute shrimp($7.50). My husband ordered Seafood Combination($33.95). The chef was good and had showed a few tricks. The onion soup was ok, the house salad was below average, lettuce is too cold and dressing was too sour. The side order of shrimp saute totally rip off, you get only 3 extra shrimps which the meal already comes with. Although not extremely delicious but the fried rice is worth the try. The hibachi steak was very tender, highly recommended. The portion of the seafood combo was quite small, not worth the money. My suggestion, it is worth going once in a lifetime just for the experience. Go for the show, but don't go if you expect tasty food. The bill = $80.00 Pros: great show, friendly staff Cons: pricey more

Great Sushi, Great Service and Unique View 1/24/2006

I think this is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to sushi and sashimi to be found in the Bay area. Why? Well I've been eating here about 10 years regularly. Obvioulsy throughout that time the staff have changed, the menu has changed and their fish suppliers have probably changed too. What hasn't changed is the quality of the food, the friendly service and the unique view. If you are an aviation and sushisashimi buff you can sit at the sushi bar and watch planes take off and land - very cool, and it's a waterfront view to boot. Another great deal is the luncheon special..they have an all you can eat menu which for me translates to an feast of great sushisashimi. Try the Ikura and Quail egg, very tasty. I hope you don't tell all of your traveling friends about this place! Pros: Good Sushi/Sashimi, Excellent Service, Reasonably priced Cons: It's in Burlingame, Can be busy at times, have to drive here more

Good show--but overpriced 10/31/2003

I recently attended Benihana's on a Saturday evening for a bachelorette dinner we had. The restaurant was packed and our party of 6 did not make reservations prior to arriving and they were still able to seat us very promptly. The chef at our table was quiet and ninja-like and performed well and marveled us with his tricks with the food. However, the quality of the food just didn't cut it. The sushi was not fresh and the drinks were watered down. I don't know about you--but the presentation doesn't mean anything to me, unless the quality is just as good. I would not recommend this place for a dinner of economical value. Go for the show if you have never been there before, but it is definitely not a restaurant to patronize often--especially if your budget is tight. Pros: Chefs=entertaining, Wide variety of food Cons: Overpriced, Too crowded at times, Sushi not fresh more

nice concept but food lacks pizzaz 8/18/2003

Our chef was a bit of a moron. He was new I guess and his tricks sucked. But he was trying hard to make us laugh. The food is pricey and small portioned. The famous fried rice was not all that, sushi was just as good as anyplace else. Steamed salmon and chicked lacked flavor but the steamed veggies and soba noodles were good. A good place for large groups but ask for an experienced and outgoing chef! Expect to stop at McDonalds afterwards to fill your tummies after you empty your wallets! Pros: new concept Cons: price, portions, inconsistency more

Go eat here! 12/30/2002

Cmon guys! I saw the bad reviews here and had to register on Citysearch and give my thoughts. This is Benihana! Everyone knows it, it's great food teppan-yaki style, a bit overpriced, but a total classic. Pros: A classic!, Good food more

It's all the same... 9/6/2002

It's all the same, Benihana is all flash and show with no substance. The food is less than mediocre and the ambience is totally contrived and artificial. Cons: Contrived setting, Poor food more

Benihana sucks!!!! 7/15/2002

My friends and I had no reservations weren't seated for 20 minutes. The place wasn't full! Our chef didn't talk to us or perform any ""tricks"". We got very few portions of appetizers & fried rice. Other tables had heaping bowls of fried rice. While cooking our meats, he forgot some items in the kitchen. It took him quite awhile and our meats burned. He refused to cook new ones. We showed the manager what happened. She looked at the meats and said ""they're not burnt that badly. It's still edible."" She expected us to eat burnt meat! We asked a worker why our chef didn't entertain us. His reply was ""There are new chefs that won't do any tricks. Sometimes if you're lucky you might get a chef who's experienced and will perform."" If you're planning to go to this location, make reservations and ask for an experienced chef. Pros: good food, nice view of airport, chefs that do tricks Cons: bad customer service, too expensive, chefs don't do tricks more
