Everything is bland 8/20/2008

This has probably got to be the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted, other than Del Taco.\r The salsa is warmed and tastes just like tomato soup, the beans are bland and tasteless.\r The servers snap at you when you aren't ready,\r and the owner is loud and seems very angry.\r Hate this place. more

BEWARE!!! DO NOT BUY OR TAKE YOUR RV HERE FOR SERVICING!!!! BEWARE!!!! 7/16/2008

It's own class of mexican food: a local fav 7/9/2008

I admit it, I love this place cuz it's american mexican food. The shredded beef is like none other and I love to get Raspberry Peach margaritas every time I come along with the salsa (which I buy in pint size and take home) I love the scones but hate the really dark I think it's a green room (no natural lighting) and they always try to seat parties of 2-4 in there and I have to be bratty and ask not to be seated there. It gets pretty crazy at lunchtime or the weekends and is a great family place. Pros: Local place, it's own kinda mexi food Cons: Lighting, waiting for a table, you always end up waiting to pay or put your name in more

Dry as a chicken bone! 7/9/2008

Ok, I did the lunch buffet a couple of weeks ago with friends and it was mediocre, and I decided to go back for a ""real"" meal hoping it would be better. Wrong! All I ordered was the curry chicken and ended up waiting for 20 minutes for bone dry chicken covered in the oiliest curry sauce I had ever tasted. I don't see how they keep getting the accolades they seem to get. Pros: Interior decor Cons: Everything else more

best mexican food ever, and great service 3/30/2008

El Matador is the most amazing mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The service was excellent. we visit at least twice a month, and have always have had the best service from the waitresses (and waiter haha) and the hostesses and even the owner. The food is the best and i highly recommend the chili verde! El matador is family friendly and I highly recommend it to everyone!! Pros: Great service and food Cons: non more

Great Mexican!! Always fresh! 3/24/2008

I don't know what happened with the person that wrote that review below me...? But as you can see, El Matador is well loved for its great food, atmosphere and prices. The food isn't the most authentic...but it is still delicious. I have never had a problem there with the food, service, or quality. The sweet pork burrito is to die for...and the chips and warm salsa with melted cheese is so yummy! Our family favorite! Pros: Great food, great prices! Cons: So busy!! more

Worst I have ever had! 3/22/2008

Where have the Utahan's been to for good Mexican food, that they choose to give this such a high rating? I would guess never to Mexico or Texas for that matter. I have traveled to both and do not see anything tex-mex or Mexican about this restaurant other than the name. The beans I had, tasted as if they had come out of a can. And the sauce was not Chile Verde as I have known it. To travel from Logan or Layton or downtown Salt Lake City to get Mexican food at El Matador is not traveling far enough, I have been to Mexico, and Texas, and Colorado for really good Mexican food. Sorry folks this just doesn't quite cut it for me. Pros: Lots of Parking Cons: No kick to the sauce, not authentic, the food tastes as if it came out of a can and warmed in the microwave! more

AMAZING Mexican!! 3/14/2008

El Matador has the greatest Mexican food in Utah! My family lives in Logan, UT and we will drive the hour and a half to Bountiful at least twice a month for El Matador! There just isn't a Mexican restaurant that compares. The food is fantastic, the prices very reasonable, and the service is nothing short of the very best! We've visited the Ogden location before and it just doesn't quite compare to the service and quality of the Bountiful location. The food is always HOT, and all of the sauces and flavors are authentic, and you can tell that the quality is most certainly home made. I love the fajitas, but I often ask for the meat to be cooked in lime or lemon juice--sometimes they are a little too greasy for my liking, and they are always more than willing to accommodate me! A friend had her daughters wedding dinner there this past week and the food was delicious! They decorated the room so nicely and everything was just perfect! El Matador is a memorable experience that you'll want to repeat over and over again!! Pros: Fantastic food, service, quality!!! Cons: ....? more

Best buffet, chicken, cauliflower dish 3/9/2008

We enjoy the buffet and the different dishes. The chicken is great. I love the cauliflower dish and I take many co-workers there. They love the variety of the buffet. we go a couple times a month and are never disappointed. Great food at a reasonable price. How can you beat that? more

If you are Indian and used to flavor run away 2/11/2008

I attempted to eat here once more after reading a few more ""positive"" reviews and was equally disappointed. Sadly those having visited NY once in there life and not being Indian consider ""Indian"" row true Indian food. Here is a brief lesson in Indian cuisine - ""Indian"" row is not Indian but Bengali and by no means the true ""Indian"" food experience in NY. For those who can look past the tourist traps and have an open mind the true Indian restaurants are easy to find and there a plenty of wonderful places if you are looking for true South Indian or North Indian cuisine. Taste of India continues to be a sad experience for those who are Indian, have been to India and UK and tasted some of the best Indian in the world. If you are looking for something more than greasy overcooked curries and overfried appetizers I would stay away from this place. Pros: service Cons: food more

Favorite Mexican for years 1/16/2008

El Matador is my most favorite Mexican restaurant of all time. Even when I moved out of state for a time--I always looked forward to visiting El Matador as soon as I was home. The customer service is awesome. My wife and I went there once and she didn't like the chicken on her salad. We returned a week later, and the owner actually brought out her salad, and the chicken had been changed to a very lean, moist chicken that tasted amazing. They have the best salsa hands down. I can't imagine a person thinking negatively about this fantastic restaurant with cheap prices and the ultimate customer service. Pros: EVERYTHING! Beautiful new location. Cons: Nothing! more

Best Mexican EVER!!! 1/4/2008

El Matador has always been my absolute favorite. The food is delicious, always hot, always fresh. The service is just the best there is. I love the waitresses fun dresses and the food is just so fantastic. The boss is so very kind, he is always coming around to make sure everyone is happy. The only con is that sometimes it's a little too busy on the weekends, but well worth the wait! I highly recommend El Matador to people of all tastes and ages! So so so perfect! My favorite are the shrimp. They are HUGE and so delicious! A must try! Pros: cheap prices, incredible food, great service! Cons: it's always so darn busy! more

FANTASTIC Mexican food. 11/13/2007

El Matador, in my opinion and all those that I know, has the greatest food and service of any Mexican food establishment in Utah. I will agree that at first, they had a few kinks to work through. However, this is entirely excusable due to moving to a location 3 times in size. After the first few months, everything has been back to par. The food is outstanding, the service impeccable. I have yet to understand how a person could have a negative thing to say about this restaurant? The service is the best in Utah--and the owner and manager will personally attend to a situation if necessary. The shredded beef is the best I've ever tasted...like tenderloin in a burrito. And the salsa and enchilada sauce are their trademark! As far as these other comments...I'm convinced the critics must have been intoxicated. El Matador is absolutely the best! Pros: Two thumbs up! Phenomenal foor and service! Cons: It's always so darn busy! more

Be sure to order from the menu! 10/20/2007

I had been to this restaurant several times with other Indian friends for the buffet, and was at first disappointed at what passes for real Indian food in the Twin Cities. HOWEVER, when I've visited in the evenings and ordered from the menu, I've very rarely been disappointed. One tip, however, is to stick to meat dishes unless you are ordering the saag or shahi paneer. The appetizers are great (I love the paneer pakoda). Pros: Satisfying Tandoori dishes, good meat masalas Cons: The buffet, some veggie dishes more

Avoid the Castle Rock store 9/21/2007

Very bad experience - My truck had no alignment issues for years until I drove about 300 miles on dirt roads late at night about 4 weeks ago. After that I had a slight pull to the right. I took it to the Castle Rock shop for an alignment. Once completed the truck pulled even harder to the right - I had to fight the steering wheel vs a slow drift. I took the truck back and asked them to look at it again. After I picked it up I no longer had to battle the steering wheel but the truck was all over the road - it wouldn't hold a straight line. I then took it to another shop. They looked at it and decided there was something wrong but couldn't identify what it was so they drove the truck to another shop. This shop spent about 10min. looking at the truck and found that the front wheel bearing was bad. Once they showed me, you could visibly see the wheel move. The second shop did not charge me for their work or transporting the truck\r \r I telephoned SWIS and asked for a refund (approx $140.00). They said they could give me some credits for part of it but would not provide a refund. I told them (honestly) that I am moving out of state and probably wouldn't be able to use the credit. They told me that was all they could do. So - give a partial credit to a person who is leaving town for work that was absolutely wrong - and then say tough cookies. Not someone I want to do biz with when there are so many good biz people in Castle Rock. Double D ended up identifying the problem and doing the work - this truck steers like it did when it was new! more

OH MY! 7/17/2007

I don't know how anyone could say this food is garbage. It is probably my favorite mexican resturant. The chicken Fajitas with a little bit a tapito sauce is heaven. I also love their hamburgers. My dad loves the shredded beef tacos with beans. My sister and my mom love the chicken or shredded beef chimichanga.... honeslty if you have one of those dishes i don't see how you could not like the food. I love it and highly recommed it. Pros: Good service, Good food Cons: Long wait on weekends, no reservations more

good food 4/9/2007

good food. It takes some time to get it but its worth it. When they say the plate is hot, its HOT, my husband got burned by the plate. more

Best indian buffet 3/19/2007

I'm not sure what the reader above is comparing it to, I've had Indian in NYC and it's not that great. There were no Indian people in the restaurants on Indian Row...just a bunch of white people. Really. But you will find a lot of Indian People at Taste of India. The place is packed every weekend brunch, many aren't from taround these parts. I've seen Indian families book half the restaurant because it's so good. They are much better than Bombay Bistro, Taj of India, Udupi, the place in Central in Northeast and those two miserable places in uptown. Why? Because they are so busy- which means the food turns around fast and doesn't spoil. The servers are actually pleasant. The place is family friendly. They have a great following. Just go. Pros: The best food. Cons: Lots of kids and babies more

Real Indians beware 11/30/2006

I do not know who these people are kidding by calling this Indian because I think they got their receipes from Betty Crocker. Having moved from NY I was craving some really good Indian food. I stepped into this place and received decent service but then I made the mistake of ordering. The appetizers were overfried, bland and hard. I ordered paneer and it was drowing in spaghetti sauce in which they threw in some chili powder to give it that ""Indian"" flavoring. I think the only thing I could swallow was the naan. If you have ever had real Indian food do not come here, this is truly an insult especially being Indian myself. Pros: prompt seating Cons: terrible food more
