Let me start this way. I know Italian food, was raised and grew up with it!! I tried this place , because friends kept telling me to go there for dinner. Pros: good wine list ...

Average fine Italian 12/27/2009

We had a party of 8 in their private wine room. Many apps were ordered including the cheese and meat tray, and pork cheeks. The pork was excellent. Cheese variety ok, however very small portions. The proscuitto tasted a bit rancid (fat portion). Ordered the shimp, octopus, and lobster salad. Very good. Primi, I ordered the king salmon and my wife ordered the gnocchi with castlemango cheese. The salmon portion was small (3 oz) with very little taste. The potato fries are not a good choice for this dish. All of the homemade pasta was excellent, including the pumpkin ravioli. Our waiter started off great, but as the night progressed, got continually a bit more surly. I would not return to eat at this establishment as there are much better options in and around Denver and Boulder. Pros: Great Location and pasta Cons: Over priced wine and food more

Worst and expensive italian food 2/22/2009

Let me start this way. I know Italian food, was raised and grew up with it!! I tried this place , because friends kept telling me to go there for dinner. Pros: good wine list Cons: no good italian food, too expensive more

Good but not great 1/25/2009

We had a great server. Risotto and gnocchi were very good, strip steak tender but very salty. Great wine list. Food was good but not knock you sock off I need to go back soon great. Crowd seemed to be older and snooty. Owner was making the rounds but never bothered to talk to us. Pros: parking, service more

Barolo Grill -don't waste you time or money! 1/10/2009

Barolo is a very nice environment but way out of line for the quality. It is a great location and has nice ambiance, which is why they can get away with criminal prices. We took some dear friends there for dinner for their bi rthdays. What a disappointment. Trust me, I have dined at the some of the finest in the world from the UK, France, The Mesa Grill in NYC, Marie Elaine?s in Scottsdale and have never been so insulted as at the Barolo Grill. First the scallop appetizer (1 scallop) was average for $10.00. Then I had the blue marlin (over cooked on a bed of carrots). Come on, we spent over $500.00 for a dinner for four and I had to make something decent to eat when I got home. The wine list was a bit intimidating but we picked a nice Barolo at $100.00. I have tasted better wine at $24.00 a bottle. Please save your palette and go to Zengo, Vita, or The old neighborhood restaurant in Arvada for a better meal at a much better value. Pros: Nice ambiance Cons: Poor quality for the value. more

Great food, good service but not perfect. 10/4/2008

Food was delicious and they always kept the water full which is seems to be rarer and rarer these days even at good restaurants. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about wines and unlike most didn't sound condescending about it all. Which is always a huge turn off. Just because I have never heard of some grape from Chile that is only grown in two vineyards doesn't make me an idiot. But I digress... the wine was good but I wish they would have had more moderately priced bottles on the menu. I think they had 5 bottles under $40 but 5 pages of bottles that were over $100. Also the server ""recommended"" that we order way, way more food than was necessary, and people in America have hard time understanding why they are fat. You can have a half order of a Insalate e Zuppa and a half order of Primi Piatti and that is plenty of food for any rational human being. My biggest complaint though and it may be a little thing to some but this really bothers me. The pasta I ordered was supposed to have heirloom tomatoes in it but it had those flavorless little grape tomatoes in it instead. I guess they can assume that 99% of their customers wouldn't notice, but for that reason alone I would be very reluctant to return. Pros: Good service. Cons: Misleading about ingredients being used. more

Best Fine Dining in Denver....I agree...Nothing I would Change 5/30/2008

Wow!!! There is not a single thing I would change about this restaurant. That is rare for me to say. Usually there is something that missed. This restaurant is PERFECT!! Let's start as we get there. Complimentary valet parking...as we were trying to find a spot, we saw this and were excited. Little things, you know. We get in and we were missing one of our party (who didn't make it) and without missing a beat, we got sat at an appropriately sized table. This was just last night. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Best Northern Italian and fine dining in Denver 5/5/2008

This is the best Northern Italian restaurant in Denver. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful on the inside other then the somewhat ugly sound proofing on the ceiling. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and the wine list and recommended two excellent wines that paired very nicely with my meal. He and the chef were accommodating when another member of my party asked to have an entree heavily modified. The bread-sticks on the table are pretty good but a bit dry. They serve them with an olive dipping sauce that is quite good, if you like olives. The rosemary focaccia bread is very good but they only give you one small piece for each diner and you have to ask for butter and/or olive oil. The Antipasti Assortiti appetizer is phenomenal, with a wonderful assortment of three perfect tasting meats. For a main course, the braised duckling is rightfully their specialty. The portion is actually quite large and a good value at the price. The duck is excellently seasoned and braised with a highly complimentary olive based sauce. The accompanying small square roast potatoes are divine. The creme brulee is an excellent desert and is enough for between 2-4 people to share, making it a good value. I will definitely recommend this to anyone seeking the best high end dining experience in Denver. Pros: Excellent Food, Knowledgeable and accommodating wait-staff, Beautiful ambience Cons: They don't give olive oil/ butter with bread unless requested more

Great Dining Experience. Great Food, Excellent Service, Knowledgable / Friendly Staff 4/30/2008

I took my girlfriend out for a romantic dinner just because we hadn't been out in a while. We sat right in front of the fireplace at my request. Every course was delicious. The wine list was HUGE, and they had several experts on hand to answer any questions you had concerning the the list and helping to guide you in the right direction. Pros: Food, Service, Staff, Atmosphere Cons: A little pricey more

Just GREAT ! 11/7/2007

Always consistant and wonderful...way to go guys...keep it up! more

Indulgent Meal 4/22/2007

We gathered here on Friday night around 6:30 for a meal together with friends. I must say, the environment is to die for, and the staff is very bright and knowledgeable. Wonderful service. We took our time, stretching dinner for almost 2 hours. The appetizers, including homemade breadsticks and a rosemary roll, were so phenemenal, I'd go again just for drinks and appetizers. The salads and first courses were also superb. The entrees tended to be a bit too salty and were outdone by the previous courses, but what an event. I wouldn't say that the main meal was to die for as far as tastes go, but twas saved by the whole experience of the courses beforehand. more

Make a Reservation Early! 3/5/2007

This is one of my favorite places to go with friends - the food is consistently good, the atmosphere is fun and the service is impeccable. HOWEVER, you must make a reservation early in the week as it is highly popular!! The duck entree is to die for.... Pros: consistent good food, good service, valet parking Cons: often fully booked so you need a reservation! more

Great food, service, nice atmosphere 2/4/2007

We first tried Barolo for wine and dessert a few years ago and were very happy. We just never made it back until it turned out to be an emergency stop last night after a bad experience at Luca. The staff were very friendly and accomodating, the food was fantastic (especially the quite interesting octopus terrine and their braised duckling), and the ambiance was nice, particularly the fact that even in a crowded restaurant, you don't necessarily feel on top of the other diners. Pros: Excellent regional Italian food, good wine list, delicious desserts Cons: Can be busy for walk-ins more

One of the Very Best in Denver 12/5/2006

Just Googled Barolo and was amazed that the Google average was 3 and a hlaf stars. (Not so here on Citysearch). So I felt I had to comment. This is one of the finest restauants in Denver. My wife and I take out of town friends here all the time. We also dine there occasionaly, and sometimes stop without a reservation to have salads and appetizers at the bar (like many others do). Pros: An exceptional dining experience Cons: Can't get a table if you don't have a resevatin - dine at the bar more

Exceptional... 11/20/2006

Barolo offers an exceptional dining experience for any occasion, but really can't be beat for a special romantic evening. The food is wonderful, the service outstanding, the wine list flawless, and the atmosphere unique, especially in this seemingly loud and raucous trend in so many establishments. Blair Taylor the owner is usually on hand and very approachable, in fact he'll probably check in with you first! Pros: Great food, exceptional service, wine recommendations, private dining, fireside dining, romantic, private room for large groups Cons: Can't think of a one more

Great Service, Great Food 11/16/2006

We just moved to Cherry Creek and noticed how busy it always was at Barolo's, so we thought we would try it. You definitely want to make a reservation, unless you go in after 9pm. We were seated promptly and had great service. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable about everything on the menu and every bottle of wine from their 20+ paged wine list. The menu is changed weekly and is set up with the typical Italian 3 course meal. The Gnocchi was delicious, they found the recipe in a small town in northern Italy. It is made with a cream cheese only found in that part of Italy. Could be the best Gnocchi I have had since I went to Italy 4 years ago. The staff of Barolo's actually travels to Italy every April for 2 weeks to discover new recipes and get the essence of the country. The atmosphere has a cute italian theme, we were seated in front of the fireplace which made for a very romantic evening. Go There!!! Check it out!!!! Ask for suggestions!!!!! Pros: EVERYTHING!!!!! more

Birthday dinner 8/6/2006

My fiance and I recently dined at Barolo Grill to celebrate my birthday. This was our first trip to the restaurant and we found that we were greated promptly upon arrival and seated immediately. Our waiter was very informative and had some very good recommendations. We recently returned from Italy, so we were anxious to compare our experiences. We were very impressed as they definitely tried to keep it as close to Italian dining as possible, with a slight deviation here and there. The only downfall to the dining experience is that at the booth we sat at, we felt very far apart and perhaps the table was a little too large and the atmosphere was not overly romatic, but rather peaceful. We will return. Pros: Great italian food Cons: Parking somewhat difficult more

Great Date 7/9/2006

My boyfriend and I went to Barolo Grill on Friday night--I had been there before (a long time ago) and he had never been. I remembered the place as romantic, with wonderful food and service, and I was not disappointed. Our server, Andrew, was attentive but not fussy, and although I didn't take his wine suggestion, was able to bring me exactly what I was looking for in a half bottle of Chardonnay. The mussels were perfect, and my date commented that he could've had a whole meal of the mushroom pasta. We were late to our 8pm reservation, but it was not a problem, and was handled extremely well. If you are looking for an absolutely smooth evening out, in a romantic room, THIS IS THE PLACE. Cons: Parking is awkward-we took a cab more

Great Dinner 2/28/2006

My wife and I just went to Barolo for dinner. We went on a Wednesday night, so we arrived at the time of our reservation and were seated immediately. We had a great waitress who made us feel like we were the only customers there. We did the four course dinner which was incredible. This is one of Denver's best restaurants and it really makes it nice that it isn't part of a nationwide chain. I've seen the wait on the weekends and it looks like a mess, so just avoid it and go on a week night. Once again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Pros: Food, Service, Wine Cons: Parking more

One of our favorites 8/23/2005

Reading other reviews on citysearch about Barolo from a few years back, I can hardly believe people are writing about the same restaurant. I've been to Barolo on a few different occasions, my birthday, when family was in town, etc, and each time it has been superb. The waitstaff has been friendly, prompt and knowledgable, and the food amazing. The tasting menu (5 courses of food with wine) is a great way to go to sample lots of great things. I would absolutely recommend Barolo to anyone looking for a great meal with all the bells and whistles. Pros: Great Service, Great Food, Great Ambiance more

Romantic Surprise 7/31/2005

My wife and I celebrated our 4th anniversary here. Upon arriving here with our 6PM reservations we were treated like royalty. Good fortune smiled on us when we were give table #20 (fireside) without even asking! This was our second visit to Barolo's and the great times started as soon as we took our seats. Waiter was promt and VERY knowledgeable with wines. Our delicacies arrived and were spectacular in presentation and taste. A great balance of texture and flavor contrasts. My wine was paired wonderfully with the chef's selection of my food. Highly recommended for any occasion or even just if your hungry for AUTHENTIC Italian food with an upscale and comfortable ambiance. more
