BEST VET EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD!! 7/4/2013

After reading the other reviews I almost didn't go to this clinic, so let me begin by saying how pleasantly surprised I was! I'm a critic at heart, so was just looking for something negative to write about, but couldn't find a thing. I have a small, 17 year old dog, and have found as he ages most vets and assistants seem to have a less than friendly attitude. It's as if they find old, stinky dogs distasteful. NOT SO AT BANFIELD IN HICKORY! From the friendly receptionist who complimented my dogs coat, to the nice tech, and exceptional vet, Dr SAWDRY, my old guy and I were made to feel welcome. Dr Sawdry even went the extra mile to help me, and the tech was nice enough to cut up my dogs pills, so that I wouldn't have to later! Hickory is lucky to have such a nice place for their furry friends!. more

Very bad service! 7/18/2012

very bad service!! First if all i never usually write reviews i just read them but today I took my 9 weeks old shih tzu there for a well visit and the vet was very rude! The vet tech seemed nice though. The lady at the front was not very nice either :/. The vet tech listened to my dogs heart checked him all over even gave him a rectal temp and he didn't mind BUT when the vet finally came in she just picked him out of my daughters hands and put him on the table without even talking to him..might sound crazy but they are kinda like a baby they need to be soothed if they seem scared. But no she just put her hands around his neck and tried to open his mouth. Well he didn't like that very much and he started squirming..she said "you need to start trying to put your hands around his mouth bc I'm not even touching him and he's freaking out" she was trying to check His soft palate. She just kept saying how he was "freaking out" so then she said I'll need to take him to the back and have someon more

Banfield - The Pet Hospital (not really) 5/22/2011

We have been taking our "furry family of four" to Banfield since March 2008. Dr. Dunning and Dr. Matthews were both wonderful vets. However, since they both left, Banfield's service has suffered. \r \r They claim to be "Banfield - The Pet Hospital." In May 2011, we encountered a case of Pyometra with our lab. She almost died and the only thing "Banfield - The Pet Hospital" did was take $250 worth of x-rays and refer us to an actual pet hospital. We had an absolutely amazing experience at Veterinary Referral Hospital of Hickory and I am happy to report our lab is doing well now. \r \r However, Banfield didn't even follow-up to see if our lab lived. I went back to Banfield 10 days after surgery to discuss special food for our lab (sensative post-surgery stomach), since Banfield was our regular vet. Two different Banfield staff told me that because they didn't perform the surgery, they wouldn't be able to talk to me about our dog's food. I explained that the vet ER that performed th more

If you want cold, disconnected doctors Go to Banfield! 1/4/2011

I have taken my pets to Banfield for over 2 years. Dr. Dunning and Dr. Matthews are gone now!!! The were both knowledgeable, caring, and informative. Dr. Dunning took my dog for a walk through Petsmart to teach me how to correct a behavior problem. Dr. Matthews was gentle and patient with my other very timid dog. And now, I have been back twice since they left. Once, the doctor never even came in the room! The vet assistant came and took my dog to the back and gave him his shots, then came back and said "everything is fine. See you in 6 months" The second time, the doctor came in for about 2 minutes, never looked at me or the dog. He read the computer screen and recommended some services that Banfield offers, then he and the vet asst. took the dog to the back to examine him. I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN! more

The nurse Susan 1/1/2011

That nurse Susan is a total jerk. I have been taking my pets to Banfield for 2 yrs now and I had the unfortunate experience of meeting her this past week. She was rough with my dog and did not sound like she knew what she was talking about. What she had told me and what the doctor had told me when I asked them questions were completely different. Very unsatisfied with that nurse. She is horrible. more

Business going downhill. 11/15/2010

When Dr. Dunning and Dr. Matthews worked at Banfield, we had the BEST experience. Since they both have left and their corporate people have taken over, this place has gone downhill. We used to love bringing our pets to Banfield, but now it just seems like a burden. With the exception of the few original nurses and receptionists who still work there and still treat us like people and not "clients", we have been unsatisfied with the other service. In the past 2 months we have seen a different doctor at each visit, some who have never worked at that particular clinic before. There appears to be no stability at all. The employees are burnt out- it's obvious. I feel bad for those who have been faithful to the company and are being treated like crap since their corporate has come in. I know some of them have already left, but hopefully the other great ones will be able to "escape" soon enough. It's pretty sad that I have to put it that way, but it's the truth. more

Great service! 5/19/2010

Great service! Very helpful. I did not have any problems. The nurses I have dealt with have been fine with my animals. I don't think I have had to deal with that nurse, but I will keep a look out whenever I go in. Thanks, Banfield, for doing such a good job with my pets! more

Same experience! 4/7/2010

I had the same experience with that nurse! Her name is Susan. Very unprofessional and degrading to the doctor right in front of me! The rest of the staff is great. more

Great except for one of the nurses 3/22/2010

The doctors are great. There is one nurse I was not satisfied with- I believe her name is Susan or Suzanne? She was very rough with my small elderly dog. He has hip problems and arthritis and I did not think she handled him properly. Other than that, I saw Dr. Dunning and he was very helpful. Very good doctors, but that experience with that nurse was unfortunate. The rest of the nurses are very friendly and gentle, and are also very knowledgeable. more

Great practice! 3/22/2010

I have taken my pet here for a few years now, and they have been great. Dr. Matthews and Dr. Dunning are excellent doctors and are very informative. I agree with the previous comment about Dr. Robinson- he is horrible, and his so-called clinic is a joke- no pet should have to go through that. His practice is "first come first serve", so if your pet needs emergency care, you have to wait for the dog in front of you getting his rabies shot. Ridiculous!\r The staff at Banfield are some of the most caring, loving people I have ever met. They are very compassionate about their job. They are also very informative and have been trained well. They give you the CORRECT information, unlike Dr. Robinson and his "staff". more

WONDERFUL CARE AND STAFF 3/10/2010

I have had a wonderful time with Banfield. Dr. Dunning, Dr. Matthews, and the staff have always done a great job with my pets. The entire staff is very informative and caring. I took my pets to Dr. Robinson ONCE- and it was HORRIBLE. I mean, come on, the guy works out of a one room practice in his HOUSE-- If your doctor did that, would you really trust his quality of medicine?? Cheaper isn't always better. Since then, I have taken my pets to Banfield and have been VERY satisfied. All of my pets are on Wellness Plans, which gets them the best treatment and saves me money. I have no problem getting an appointment, and when I need to drop my pets off, they are perfectly willing to work with me and my schedule. I used to have a concern that they are a little pricey with some services, BUT they have no control over their prices since it is a corporation- and I understand that completely since I have worked with corporations before. Besides, like I said before, cheaper is not always better. more

Won't be getting business from me! 1/22/2010

I will never take another pet here again! The first pet I took here was a 2 week old puppy who had accidentally been stepped on. The puppy was in real bad shape and honestly should have been put down (his head was squished to one side). The puppy was crying constantly and turning in circles ( I later found out that was part of a seizure) Banfield did NOT tell me the pup was having seizures and simply gave him something for pain and sent us home with a $123.00 bill. Later that night (2am) he started having full out seizures and we took him to the emergency vet and eh was put down. They were the ones who informed me the circles was seizure activity and said the pup should have been put down sooner.\r My second experiance with Banfield was with my Dachshund who had Pyometra (infection in the uterus). They gave me a list of things they wanted to do which added up to over $1000.00. They explained to me I didn't have to do all of it but she did need the surgery at a cost of around $4 more

Banfield Animal Hospital is looking at profit only 10/13/2009

The corporation doesn't not care about the animals. I used them during 1999/2000 the first time they were in Hickory and they CLOSED the office with NO warning. Imagine....driving your sick pet to the vet office for help and finding a CLOSED sign on the door. Not just closed for the day... CLOSED the practice!! I don't trust them to do it again since they returned to Hickory for a second time. Someone commented they are different people now - WRONG! Banfield, the corporation, owns them now that closed the doors with no notice the last time they were in Hickory - same location. The vets were great the first time, but what good are great vets when Banfield, the corporation that owes the them shuts down the clinic? more

Helpful clinic 10/9/2008

I enjoyed taking my pets to Banfield. The doctors were helpful and seemed to really care for me and my pet. They remembered us by name. My only complaint would be the urgence to join their health plan and they also seemed to be overpriced. Not so pleased with the corporation, but happy with the staff and doctors. more
