Nothing but good things to say about Banfield and the care our miniature Dachshund, Abby, has received over the past 3 years. We've had the ""pet insurance"" policy and it provides comprehensive care during sickness and preventative maintenance. Staff always friendly and they have always worked Abby's appts to accomodate my work schedule. We had one emergency visit year and I was very impressed with the quick actions and diagnosis by the vet that I feel saved Abby's life. They always follow-up with a personal phone call after treatments. Shot records are always faxed to our boarder without issue. Thanks so much! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/13/2014

I have my dog on the Banfield Health insurance plan. I took my dog in for a routine yearly check-up and shots. She was in great health and they called me to pick her up. I was sick and had my husband go get her. She was brought out from the back in the nurses arms. She handed her to my husband and said she was a little sore from the shots and to carry her. I myself would have not left the store since she HAS NEVER been sore from shots and has had these same ones for many years. When they get home and he puts her on the floor I discover she is not able to walk at all. Her back legs are wobbly and she is not even able to stand. I call Banfield and they are closed. I took her first thing the next morning and was furious. My dog went into the office fine and came out and could not walk. The doctor listened to me went in the back and ""had a talk with his team"" and came out and told me she may have slipped on the exam table and put her back out of place. He told me she may need surgery that was upwards of 2500.00. He put her on medication to help her gain her balance and promptly got us out of the office. We came back the next day as she was not doing much better and he said to come back in a week. We went back and my dog was getting slightly better but not herself. The owner and original doctor was on vacation and the other doctor that saw her again said she had slipped on the table but did not need surgery and charged us and put her on more medication. He said to call corporate as he was not the owner and was not willing to listen to our story. We did call Banfield Corporate and they said this Banfield was a franchise and they were not able to help. The fact is they hurt my dog and could have killed her and they are not willing to do anything but lie about what happened. The customer service there is terrible. more

STAY FAR AWAY - THE SCAM CONTINUES! 3/1/2012

AS AN UPDATE TO THE 7/30/11 POST - I decided this was not worth fighting over and paid $127.80 by check # 1070 on 7/31/11, with ?Full and Final Settlement of all Sums Due? in the memo line. $127.80 is the monthly Wellness Plan amount for the months of May, June, July and August 2011. This amount cleared my account on September 12, 2011, with ?Banfield 8502 CA BFCALCTR? in the description on my on line bank account. The harassing letters & telephone calls stopped, so I considered the matter resolved. But today, 3/1/12, and 6 months after the settlement check cleared, I received a letter from the Brentwood Banfield ? signed by Dr. Coffeen and office manger Ashley Ring - stating the last payment I had made was on 4/5/11 and that I owed for 5 months. They offered to ?settle? by my paying $159.35 and FAILED to acknowledge the $127.80 I already paid. Pros: null Cons: null more

STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!! 7/30/2011

I started using Banfield in 2007, signing up for one of their Wellness Plans when it was $16.95 per month. After being advised it would be better to upgrade the plan for some dental work needed in 2009, I was assured I could cancel at any time to take advantage of the upgraded plan savings. I did not, until 2011 when the cost increased to $32 per month (not to mention the hundreds of dollars I would spend each visit - where is the savings??). Therefore, I made the decision to cancel in April. That has turned into a NIGHTMARE with my husband and I getting harassing letters and telephone calls to our home - including today (Saturday) ALTHOUGH I AM AN ATTORNEY (and am mindful everyone thinks we are rich but assure everyone I am NOT) AND ADVISED THEM IN WIRTING MANY TIMES TO CORRESPOND WITH ME TO MY OFFICE IN WRITING!! They are VULTURES when it comes to the monthly wellness plan fee. I have even received a personal letter authored by three of the vets there more

Excellent Vet 1/11/2011

I adopted a puppy a few months ago from a local rescue. He came with pretty bad case of kennel cough and I felt horrible for him so I made an appointment at a well reviewed vet in Spring Hill. They were nice enough, but I was herded in and out like cattle. The vet grabbed my puppies skin to show me how to apply flea drops and made him cry out in pain. It was over $100 and I never went back. more

Bad! Never would recommend! 11/10/2009

I actually work along side of Banfield in PetSmart for a little while now. But I will NEVER take my animals there! They try to up sell you on every little thing. They do NOT see the animals or the owners best interest. The vet ONLY sees $$$! I see how they treat the animals the store takes over if they are ill and he is more likely to put the animal to sleep rather than treat it.....then charge you an arm and a leg! I would never trust these vets! They are unethical, rude, and ignorant! Just stay away, Far Far Away!!! Pros: Location, Convenience Cons: Unethical more

a $1500 misdiagnosis 6/25/2009

Dr.Coffeen was CONFIDENT my dog had a torn ACL and wanted me asap to cough up 1500 bucks for this emergency surgery. Thank god I went else where. Come to find out my dog has fine knees and actually has hip issues and I would have undergone unnecessary surgery, 1500 bucks, hurt my poor dog, and subjected him to 3 months of physical rehabilitation for nothing. Not only that, but being that Dr.Coffeen was under the impression my dog had a torn knee ligament they sent him out completely drugged up after their "inspection" to where he was falling all over the place and could barely walk. My dog is 80 lbs.. now does that make sense for a vet thinking a dog had a busted knee to let the dog out all drugged to where they could damage it even further? I went to Battleground Animal Hospital instead. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM... they actually care and know what they are doing. more

Dr. Coffeen is the ONLY vet I prefer to take my dog to 5/5/2009

I've taken my dog to Dr. Coffeen since she was 6 weeks old and after 9 years, he is the ONLY Veterinarian I will take her to. He not only has 3 decades of experience, but has the doctoral instincts to boot. If it weren't for him, my dog wouldn't be alive right now. After consulting with the pet's owner, he performs only the necessary tests so as to not run up the bill. He has not only the pet's, but also the owner's best interests in mind. Pros: Excellent care and Personable service Cons: Sometimes the wait time is like at a regular Doctor's office more

Avoid This Veterinarian At All Cost, He Made News Headlines Not In A Positive Way! 8/6/2008

This veterinarian, G. Patrick Coffeen has no business practicing Veterinary Medicine. He was caught performing surgery while intoxicated. This was on the local channel 4 new a few years ago. I know this man personally, in fact I worked for him and was sickened by his work ethics, I have no doubt that the news story was acurate. I do not understand why this man is able to practice medicine today. I suppose when you have money and have a big corporation behind you, you can get away with anything. I have been a registered veterinary nurse for over 20 years and have worked with the best. I am also sorry to say that I had worked for the worst as well, G. Patrick Coffeen, it does not get any lower then that. Pros: Clean Facility Cons: Animals are placed at risk who are left in Dr. Coffeen's care more
