As a former student at Aveda, I have incredibly mixed feelings about the Chapel Hill institute. On one hand, staying busy with back to back clients during my time there left me b...

The place for style 4/19/2010

I've been going to Aveda for several years and have been pleased with every cut. They have worked with me to help find the cuts and colors that work with my faceshape and hair texture, while also keeping me looking "trendy". Pros: educated stylists, helpful, friendly, price Cons: time more

Dr. Stewart 4/12/2010

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Aveda Institute. I had a relaxer, and the student quickly identified where she might need a little extra help and got it so that my hair came out beautifully! The instructors came by twice to make sure things were progressing. I felt very comfortable asking questions and making requests for the care of my hair. I especially enjoyed the complimentary facial during the hairwash. To top it off, was to only pay half the cost for the service that I would have had to pay at a full-service salon. more

Wonderful experience 4/9/2010

From the minute I stepped into the Aveda institute, I knew that I would be back. The service was exceptional from the front desk staff to the student who gave me my cut and color. Small perks such as a complementary mini-facial during the shampoo will definitely have me coming back for future services. Pros: inexpensive cost for quality service Cons: lengthy appointment times more

Great Inexpensive Hair Salon 4/8/2010

I have had GREAT results at the Aveda Salon. I have been going for about 2 years now and have used several of the students (usually advanced) for all-over color and cuts. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Students graduate so need to keep changing who you use more

Best deal for pampering 4/7/2010

Well I live in Winston Salem, NC and drive about 75 minutes to get here every 6 weeks. After paying $60.00 for the worst haircut in history by a girl who looked 12, I started on a 'stylist' search. I had heard from friends who live in Chapel Hill about the Aveda Institute and all they have to offer so I thought Id give it a try. I have never been disappointed and its been almost a year. I have gotten mostly stylist who are in the last few weeks of training. They usually recommend someone else for the next cut if they will no longer be available. I have also had a few new stylist and it just takes longer since every few cuts must be approved. However, how wrong can you go with 2 people working on you? I am always offered facials when they wash my hair, I was given a message once while waiting for the stylist to finish up. and Im never charged extra so there are no 'hidden costs' .They always call me to let me know if there is going to be a problem and to also confirm. Pros: very professional, nice stylist Cons: none more

Waxing 4/6/2010

When I go to Aveda I usually get the waxing services simply because they're cheaper than any other salon. The waxing is always a pleasant experience, however, be prepared to spend a lot of time at Aveda. Since the students are beginners, they are not as fast as someone who waxes as their profession is. With that being said, I have always been pleased more

Fantastic Spring Highlights 4/6/2010

I recently had my hair colored and highlighted by Sara. She did an amazing job! My hair looks fantastic-just in time for spring! Thanks Aveda! more

Tali 4/6/2010

I've been to the Aveda Institute for haircuts many times and have always had a great experience. They really do take the time to get to know you and what you want to do with your hair and are always very precise. It's a great deal! more

Attorney 4/3/2010

I usually request a student who is pretty far along in the program and I have had fantastic hair cuts and color. It is a very nice experience, with complimentary tea, hand massages and facials. I would definitely recommend it. more

Client 4/3/2010

Aveda in Chapel Hill is so Spa......I relax, Get pampered and loved the service! They are friendly, competent and cutting edge with great styles and prices! I wouldn't go anywhere else more

Good value 4/3/2010

I have visited the Aveda Institute twice since moving to the Chapel Hill area. My first service was the Caribbean body therapy, both the student and the service was wonderful (and the hour was just $50!). On my next visit, I got a pedicure. I had a new student this time, and she was so nice, but definitely not great at the actual service. There was very little massaging involved even though this was part of the service description. I was definitely a little disappointed. Both times I have visited, I have had at least a 30 minute wait, but the prices have justified these small issues. And of course the Aveda products are a plus as well. I am returning for my third service in a few weeks. Pros: Prices (you can't beat them), cleanliness, aveda products Cons: Slow service, students can be hit or miss more

Great Experience 4/3/2010

I have been going to the Aveda Institute for four years. I have short hair and get my hair cut every six weeks. i have had only one questionable hair cut in all of those I have had over the years. The students are very nice, listen well and are very confident. I feel certain that if they can handle my short, curly, thick hair, they can handle most any hair cut! In addition to the low prices I also like that you don't tip the students. You can tip for a cause to many great charities or choose not to tip at all. The only downfall I find is a haircut, without being styled, usually takes my stylist at least an hour. I have recommended this place to many friends and I will continue to do so! Pros: cost, location, no tips Cons: takes more time than other haircuts more

Fabulous highlights! 4/3/2010

I was skeptical to get my hair colored at Aveda because it is all students. I have gotten my hair cut there numerous times, but usually do my hair color myself. I needed to go lighter (after going super dark for winter) so I definitely did not want to do it myself. I did not want to pay $150 or so at a fancy salon so I decided to try it out. Emmy was great (too bad she was graduating the next day) and gave me several ideas. She also grabbed her instructor who had the same idea. It took about 3.5 hours from start to finish, but I am super happy with the results. I want more blond so I am going back in a few weeks! I would highly recommend getting a more advanced student -- I am guessing it would take longer if the student was brand new. Pros: Great recommendations for my hair and fabulous outcome. Cons: Takes longer than usual more

Best Bang for Your Buck 3/30/2010

I have been going to Aveda Institute for 2 years and have never had a bad experience. The prices are great, the staff is professional and everyone I see leaves there looking happy. There is no other place that provides such excellent results for the value. Pros: great prices, variety of services Cons: takes a little longer than most places more

Great Experience 3/10/2010

I have been to the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill twice in the past 4 months. Both times I got partial highlights and a haircut. The students were very knowledgeable and confident in what they did. I loved my highlights and haircut and got a lot of compliments. Everyone working/studying at the Aveda Institute that I have come in contact with has been very courteous, helpful, and professional. I am very impressed with the Aveda Institute and will continue to go there for haircuts and color. Pros: Knowledgable staff, well-trained students, great price more

Love Every Experience 3/1/2010

I have been going to Aveda for every haircut I've gotten over the last 2 and 1/2 years. I have never had a bad experience. I have heard of some people say that it is "hit or miss", but the only reason I could imagine they might think that is if they weren't specific or clear with their requests. I believe that all of the students are great. They are so eager to learn and want to do a good job. Styling hair is what they enjoy and are attending school in order to perfect. I have also received a pedicure from Aveda, which was another good experience. I was very impressed by the students willingness and attentiveness in all aspects of spa thearpy (I know I wouldn't want to mess with my own feet, haha). Pros: Affordable, Enthusiastic Staff Cons: None that I've ever experienced more

Great affordable place to get your hair cut! 2/24/2010

I am a college student and always looking for affordable services. I have been getting my haircut at Aveda in Chapel Hill for about a year and have always been very satisfied with my experience. Regular hair cuts range from $19-22 and tips are in the form of a donation to the charity they are supporting at that time. The staff is great and instructors at the institution are very good about coming around to check the students work. Overall I would recommend Aveda for an affordable haircut with good recommendations on how to bump up the styling of your hairdo. Pros: Affordable and Stylish Haircut Cons: Stylist are still in training more

great place for hair services 2/20/2010

students are supervised by thei instructors, they do a great job Pros: good haircuts and color services at inexpensive prices Cons: can take a little long more

Great service and products for cheap! 2/10/2010

The students at Aveda have always done a great job for me, I have been here many times. It's an amazing deal for the wonderful products they have - especially if you color your hair. They may sometimes take a little longer but it's worth the wait! Pros: Quality products, cheap prices, nice people. Cons: Can sometimes take longer than other salons more

Good job, low price 2/9/2010

I went in for highlights and a cut and ended up there for three and a half hours and didn't get the cut. However, in the end, the highlights looked great. Pros: Stylists do a good job, very reasonable, use quality product Cons: Slow service more
