As a former student at Aveda, I have incredibly mixed feelings about the Chapel Hill institute. On one hand, staying busy with back to back clients during my time there left me b...

Great place 3/7/2013

Once again I have to say I Love, love, love Aveda! My stylist, Jackie, was great and attentive. She made me feel comfortable and helped me leave a lot more relaxed than when I came in. I can't say enough about aveda the place is great and their products are amazing! If you don't have time to get your hair done at least go buy some shampoo and immediately your hair feels and looks healthier! more

Value, value, value! 1/28/2013

Aveda is world famous, and this is where Aveda specialists are trained. So you get the benefit of their expertise for a very reasonable cost. Everyone is very helpful and well-bred; and you get services at an unbeatable price. What's not to like? more

I loved having my hair done here. 10/8/2012

Aveda Institute Chapel Hill is a great place to have your hair done. I chose to be the first client of a student and couldn't have been happier with the experience! more

Aveda Instiute....a must try visit! 6/15/2012

I went to Aveda Institute for a partial highlight. Ana who has been doing my hair the past couple of months did another fantastic job. I especially loved the styling tip she gave to me for my curly hair. In all my 30 years of curly hair, I have never had a stylists show me how to make my curls look different and curlier. Instead of the the scrunched up look they normally have, In a matter of minutes she showed me a simple technique to make them look like natural ringlets. All this was done in less than 10 minutes and with the simple touch of my own finger! That's right, no curling iron and very little product. I left with a bounce in my step. The staff was very friendly and professional. more

Worst Hair Experience of My Life!!!! 3/10/2012

This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life!! My hair is ruined! I know that you have to sign a waiver because they are students, but I also THOUGHT the supervisors would be there to check on things regularly. This was certainly not the case!! My hair is totally ruined and I would never recommend this place to anyone! It will cost me a lot more money than I saved by going here to ever get my hair damage fixed. It will probably have to grow out to really ever be fixed. If you have to go there, don't see anyone but a senior student, and even then, it's a real risk! I don't feel like they are on the side of the consumer at all there, but out to make all the money they can. Pros: null Cons: null more

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE 8/16/2011

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, anywhere else!!! i can appreciate that it is important to protect and care for your students, but what about your clientele? the management at this location is under the impression that being rude and condescending is an appropriate way to treat their paying customers. After receiving a piss pour pedicure where I slid around in my chair everytime my student moved and having my soak in a bowl full of cold water, I wanted to tell the management that it was irresponsible to have the students double over their clients. they will hurt their backs, etc... the receptionist asked me how my experience was and when I began to give my "constructive criticism" she cut me off and started tlaking to someone else. I told her after the other client left that she shouldn't ask if she didn't care. push come to shove, i asked for the manager who was even more rude. he told me that nails aren't a priority and that it's below his students b/c they pay 20K a year in tuition! Well guess what? i'm a dentist and my tuition was more like 50K a year and I had to pay for 4 years, so sorry if that doesn't impress me! i'm never going back. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE ELSE!!! more

Aveda 11/10/2010

I've gone to Aveda for years now. I've always enjoyed it. This last time was a little off. I didn't get offered a complementary facial - maybe they don't do that anymore. That used to be a nice addition to the haircut.. more

Happy with the Results 8/23/2010

Aveda Institue offers great service and value. The quality of its services is far better than many salons that I have visited. The student stylists are patient and the instructors will guarantee the quality. You will be happy with the results. more

Manicure and Pedicure awfull! 8/16/2010

My experience at the Aveda Salon and school was a very poor one. The technicians were unprofessional and their skill level was of the poorest quality. The techs continually spoke to each other and anyone passing by. They were not prepared with the items needed to perform the services. They were actually hurting my nails by scraping the surface. The shaping and polishing of nails and feet was uneven. The polishing looked as if it were done by a five year old. The nail area was very dirty. The techs attitude was one of disinterest and certainly not geared to good service. I will never have those services there again. The instructors checked the techs work. They are either suffering from poor eyesight or did not care about the student's work. Horrible experience. more

Very Good Value 8/11/2010

I have been going to the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill for the past several years for haircuts and partial highlights. I have had a great experience every time I have visited. I have always gotten compliments on the cuts. The stylists are knowledgeable and do a great job on my "mind of its own" hair. They also have been very good at honoring my instructions that my hair has to look great without any assistance from me or "products". I do not do hair and frankly am a klutz at at. Keep in mind that it IS a school...and the stylists are learning so it does take longer than a regular salon as the work is checked by instructors, who will intervene if necessary. The little extra services - the mini-facial, the teas, the mini-massages or make-up sessions are a nice and welcome bonus. On the rare occasion that I misjudged how long the appointment would take, a staffer was kind enough to go out and feed the meter. The pricing is very reasonable. more

Satisfactory and sometimes very good 8/8/2010

The important thing for everyone to understand is this is a school. Not only are the students slower, they have to stop periodically and have instructors check their progress. It can take several minutes for the stylist to wander around the salon trying to get a teacher to help them. Be prepared that it may take several hours and if you are typically an impatient person this may not be the best choice for you. I agree the salon needs to be redecorated, the price for nail services needs to be dramatically reduced, something needs to be done to explain the issue of time, and that the students are over worked (and not allowed to accept tips). But the hair services are mostly great. Definitely better than going to cost cutters or some place like that. I like the students because they really want to do a good job. They arent yet jaded. Give it a try but just make sure you have a free schedule and lots of coins for parking. Before you schedule a hair color or cut, request a student to give more

Aveda Institute of Chapel Hill worth checking out 7/12/2010

The Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill is the best service for price. While those performing the services are students, they want to do their job well, and they are required to be reviewed by their supervisor at least after doing the service but oftentimes prior to starting what they have discussed doing with the customer. I definitely recommend going here, especially for the more spa-like services. more

Best deal in town! 6/25/2010

My husband and I have been going to Aveda for haircuts for about 2 years now. We always request an advanced student, and have been very pleased with the results all but once. The complimentary mini facial or hand massage is a nice treat. Aveda is definitely the place to get a trendy haircut without breaking the bank, and we will continue to patronize it. more

Great job 6/16/2010

I have already been a client at Aveda Institute for about 2 years, and practically every time it was really good. Especially I liked the work done by my first stylist Mr. Jay Felton (who is an instructor now) and who I liked very much due to his high quality work when I was his client during my two first visits, and I also liked quality of my recent partial highlights done my Ms. Mal-Seiik under his supervision (moreover she is a charming person). I am planning to return to Aveda again and I would recommend this salon to all my friends. more

Good for Highlights 5/11/2010

I have been getting my hair highlighted at Aveda Institute for almost two years. I have always been very pleased with the service and products. It does take a little longer compared to a normal salon, but you cannot beat the price. I have thoroughly enjoyed my hair color and always receive compliments from friends. more

Definitely Recommend 4/30/2010

I've been about 5 times to get a haircut, and each time have been impressed by the cut. I've gotten a trim once, about 2-3 inches taken off a couple of times, and once gotten about 6 inches off. It takes about 2 hours to get a cut, since the stylists are students. You can ask for a student that is about to graduate, in which case your cut should take less time. The teachers are constantly walking around and check on your cut 2-3 times. This helped me feel confident, as I knew the student had to do their best. Once, I had a student that had never done my type of cut before, and the teacher was with us 75% of the time, which worked well. I would definitely recommend coming here! more

Great Experience 4/28/2010

I really enjoyed my experience at the Aveda School Salon. I was uncertain as to what I would find when I first walked in and was pleased to see the wide array of students and the instructors walking around to assure that quality was taking place. Pros: Extra time taken Cons: Takes longer than a normal salon more
