We went here on a Saturday with an 8pm reservation and had to wait over an hour until we were seated. The host was incredibly rude rather than apologetic. Once we were seated it t...

Great view of the city... 8/1/2006

I must admit, I was surprised by the fabulous service we received from Asia de Cuba! We were expecting maybe rude or difficult reactions when we asked to be moved from our table near the back to a table open at the front. They were VERY accommodating and the evening only continued to impress. The menu is expensive (with a minimum charge per person) but worth it. You would never imagine right on the other side of the glassed in room resides the hardest bar to get into in Hollywood. Pros: View, Food, Ambience more

Wonderful City View and tasty, tasty, expensive food. 7/26/2006

Our reservations were for 7:30 on a Wednesday night ... I definately recommend the outside patio table - ask for city view - it is beautiful. Even on a smoggy, hot summer night - the patio was very nice and cool. Even though we were 15 minutes late, we were seated after 10 minutes, our waiter was friendly and had great recommendations. The Tuna Tartar was excellent, butterfish was delicious, and order the highly recommended lobster mashed potatoes and the plaintains fried rice with avacado! The lamb was slightly bland and did not compare to our other dishes - but everything else was excellent! \r \r Expect large portions of food - served family style - there's always enough to take home. Pros: City View, Great Ambiance, Delicious Food Cons: Price more

Terrible attitude and service 7/23/2006

I made reservations for a dinner party one month before my birthday. They are so unaccomodating and snobby. Dinner was good, but so not worth it. The staff has a serious attitude problem and very unfriendly. Get over yourselves!!!! There are plenty of restaurants on LA. DO NOT GO HERE. Spend your money on a restauant that will serve you kindly and treat you more graciously. Cons: Attitude and Snottiness; Food is so-so; Terrible Service more

HORRIBLY DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!! 7/8/2006

Worse night ever! Had reservations for 8:30PM, got there on time, clueless hostess could not even tell us when we can get seated; finally seated at 9:20PM. Still tried to keep good spirits despite the long wait then dinner came along, our waitress was horrible, only attended to us twice during the night, left us for a long time then when we asked for help, some rude waiter (who was her substitute) attended to us with typical Hollywood attitude. Our side orders came long after we had finished our entrees then worst of all when the bill arrived, we were overcharged for ""flat water"" which we did not even drink(among other items) and automatically charged a 20% gratuity which was very undeserved. Will never go back to this place and will tell our friends not to waste time and money! Although great atmosphere, definitely average food, poor service and even worse attitude!!!! Pros: good atmosphere Cons: average food, plenty of attitude, poor service more

Best Vegetarian Dumplings! 7/4/2006

The view is magnificent! The dumplings were so delicious...I can taste them now! The fried rice with plantanes and guacamole was really good too. The tofu salad is okay. The desserts are GIGANTIC! You can feed 8 people with those things...beware! Pros: Great view, Great food, Great service Cons: Expensive more

Worth all the $$$$ 5/29/2006

Yes the place is pricey but as soon as you get your table on the patio and look out over the city you forget about price and you enjoy the experience. The thai beef salad was delicious, we ordered the duck and were brought the wrong plate by mistake, maybe my own mistake for mumbling. Our server was awesome and she comped our drinks and dessert in apology. Portions are large and you will take some home so the $200+ you'll spend for 2 feels about right for the whole package. Drop by Skybar afterwards and you'll have a great night out in the city! Pros: Amazing view, Great ambiance, Tasty concoctions Cons: Price, $12 Valet! more

A pleasant Wednesday evening 5/12/2006

I had made reservations for my birthday here almost 2 months ago, & when the night finally came, it was extremely packed due to a video game convention. Reservations were a little behind but the 4 of us ended up with prime seating outside on the patio. The heat lamps made everything comfortable, & our server Michael was very helpful with his recommendations (chicken skewers, plantain fried rice, pan seared ahi tuna, miso cured alaskan butterfish, cuban chicken & palomillo of marinated lamb) & the staff was quick & discreet with removing our dishes. We not only got a couple of comped drinks, but also free desserts (bay of pigs, & a large birthday slice!). Also big thanks to doorman 'Dustin' @ the SkyBar who let us in without prior reservations. Was expensive, but for a special occasion, this made turning 30 less painful. Will return when I turn 50. Pros: view, atmosphere , great staff Cons: expensive more

What a night 5/2/2006

Although its a little pricey, Asia de Cuba has the best food. The service was great and the setting was perfect. Great for a special occasion. Pros: Great food Cons: Pricey more

Still Dreaming of Lobster Mashed Potatoes! 4/17/2006

I had dinner at Asia de Cuba over a year ago, and I still cannot stop dreaming about the delicious mouth-watering lobster mashed potatoes. Oh wow. Worth going to dinner just for them! To-die-for. What a great restaurant! Highly recommend it... excellent food, great service, beautiful view... of the people and all of LA... and just an all-around wonderful evening. Great place to take a date! It's swanky and very trendy, yet even if you're not a celebrity, you get treated with impeccable service. I cannot say enough good things about it. And, once again, order the lobster mashed potatoes! : ) Pros: Lobster mashed potato, Service more

One of the best in L.A. 4/4/2006

my husband and i enjoy amazing restaurant experiences... it's one of our hobbies together. this one did NOT disappoint. it is on our top 10 best restaurants ever. the food is above exceptional, the wine fantastic, the service couldn't be more together and friendly, and the view is outstanding. i tell everyone who comes to visit that this is a must-do before leaving. it's pricey but well worth it! Pros: great view, great wine, great food Cons: expensive valet more

Class without the attitude! 3/10/2006

After having worked in the entertainment industry for 10 years (yes, movie studios..what else is there to do around here?) I've seen my share of the good and not so good in terms of restaurants. Asia De Cuba is GREAT! We were an hour late for our reservation on Oscar weekend, and they still got us a table after waiting less than 10 minutes even though the place was PACKED. From the hostess to the wait staff, there was no Hollywood ""attitude"" from anyone--if anything it was quite the opposite. I was not expecting such HUGE portions of food ( usually served at chichi restaurants), everything was delicious and made to be shared by everyone at the table. It is a lil high-priced but well worth it! Thanks Asia De Cuba for giving me a great b'day dinner! Pros: service, food, celeb spotting Cons: parking, more

Wonderful.... 1/4/2006

You will not be disappointed!!! Food, ambience, service...and did I say food??? The best in all catorgories!!! I have not one bad thing to say about it. And that is rare. Pros: Food, City View, Ambience Cons: Expensive more

great every single time 1/2/2006

I have eaten at asia de cuba over 20 times this past year and every single time its great! i have never had a bad experience here! the food is always perfect, no matter what you order it is going to be incredible! I have taken many people here and they love the food and the experience. go here for a perfect evening out and an amazing dinner! Pros: ambience more

interesting and unique food 11/13/2005

we just came here over the weekend and had a good time. the food is interesting, a fusion of asian and cuban foods. the crab-cake-like appetizer was amazing. since the portions are huge, we ordered several for the table and shared. the seafood pad thai wasn't bad, the short ribs were great as was the butterfish. pass on the sticky-rice, it's jsut that, rice and sticky. unfortunately the lobster mashed potatoes we ordered never arrived. desserts were pretty good (lemon cheesecake and flan), but not exceptional. the mojitos were also very good. Pros: interesting food, good service Cons: expensive more

Great Food 9/24/2005

It's all about the calamari-banana salad. You can't go wrong with any of their shelled fish dishes. This Asia de Cuba beats the one in NY & SF. Pros: Service, Food, Quality more

The Perfect Date 7/9/2005

My boyfriend took me here on our first date. It was an absolute dream! We went on a Sunday evening so it was not very crowded (I don't know if it is any different on a busy night). We sat outside overlooking the view which was amazing and well worth the wait. The service and food were exceptional. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive and had a great sense of timing in terms of when to come over and when to give us space. The food was beautifully presented and inventive. We loved the crab croquettas starter. The entres are made to share which added to the romance. After dinner we went over to Sky Bar which rounded out an absolutely amazing dining experience (it's no wonder i accepted a second date with the guy!). Pros: food, view, service more

Great Time 7/6/2005

My friend and I had lunch at Asia De Cuba this past weekend, and I thought it was really nice. We had these lobster rolls for an appetizer, which was sooo good. For lunch I ordered the lobster club, also delicious! And it came with fries. My friend had fish(I forget which kind) but it was also good! The champange was great also, of course we had to get a bottle. Oh and we had dessert, it was chocolate but I forget what it was called, kinda a coffee flavor! I recommend sitting outside in the patio by the window for the city view, very nice! Also, if you're looking to people watch, this is the place, the hotel guests were very interesting, lol! We also saw Lional Richie dining, he was sitting right next to us, that was cool too. Oh, the servers were very friendly also! Pros: View, Scene, Lobster Club(mmmmm) more

Very Enjoyable, but Pricey for What You Get 6/29/2005

I loved it. The atmosphere, the people, drinks, etc. were fantastic. Patio seating is the best. Food was delicious, but extremely over-priced (three chicken skewers for $50). The prices were quite laughable. Quite shocking, really, considering the food is similar to other less expensive, yet just as tasty, places. I guess you pay for the view and the FABULOUS service. If you want an excellent dining experience as far as being pampered by the management and waitstaff go to Asia de Cuba. They are the best in town. True professionals. Fun atmosphere as far as the crowd. Worth an evening out. Bummer is selective entrance to adjoining Skybar though. Pros: Excellent Service, Fabulous atmosphere, View Cons: Price more

great people-watching; terrible food 5/1/2005

I had been wanting to go there for a l long time because of all the hype. Definitely interesting for people-watching. We got a nice table by the window. Would probably recommend going to the patio instead (it looked very cool!). The food was terrible. I was shocked by how bad it was. I don't understand the calamari salad at all. The salmon tasted too fishy and the beef was tasteless. At least the dessert was delicious. I highly recommend the cuban opera(huge enough to share). Pros: people-watching, view, dessert Cons: bad food more

I Love Asis de Cuba! 3/20/2005

I live in West Hollywood area, and my boy friend and I love dining out. Asia de Cuba is one of our favorite restaurants with great fusion food. It has nice decor, amazing view of LA city, great hospitality, and awesome food. I especially recommend its appetizers such as grilled shrimp served with mango cocktail, fried calimari salad, and tuna tartar. I have tried about 6 different entrees (steak/sea food/duck), and I like them all! Don't forget to try Asian style fried rice with guacamole on top as your side dish. Also, the flan from this nenue is delish. I am not a big fan of flan, but I just can't resist ordering flan there. If you like creme bulee, ask your server to caramelize your flan a lil bit. You'll love it! Pros: Nice View, Great Service, Good Drinks more

  • The restaurant at the uber-sleek Mondrian hotel is a white-on-white fantasia packed with expense accounters, hotel guests and pretty people on dates. Philippe Starck cuckoo clocks line the stark walls, while hundreds of tiny lights create a warm, romantic glow. The patio, with its surreal giant clay pots, ficus trees and panoramic views, is one of the loveliest dining spaces in town. Caribbean-Latino-Asian dishes are served family-style. Crab croquettas are a lighter spin on crab cakes, giant Asian pesto grilled shrimp with wok-charred coconut-pineapple is flavorful and the pan-seared ahi is a favorite with its mashed potatos topped with crunchy wasabi peas. Desserts are elaborate architectural concoctions that don't sacrifice flavor for height: The Bay of Pigs banana split is a humongous tower of chocolate, coconut, ice cream and yes, more than a few calories.
