We went here on a Saturday with an 8pm reservation and had to wait over an hour until we were seated. The host was incredibly rude rather than apologetic. Once we were seated it t...

nice! 3/1/2005

we had reserved a suite in Mondrian, yet because of the bad weather during our stay were ""forced"" to eat at the sea bar instead of al fresco as we had hoped. Though Sea Bar serves the same food as ADC and the athmosphere is nice, I guess you need to do and be more than a hotel suite guest (paying $500 a night) to dine at the real place. Food was excellent, although I always wonder why it is that when mentioned recommendations servers are always instructed to sell up the low-food cost items (butterfish, averages 5 dollars a pound), a $33 appetizer and a $8 bottle of VOSS. We had a great night with good service and well prepared food. Pros: service, food Cons: upselling more

heaven on sunset 9/6/2004

I've dined at quite a few ""hot"" restaurants in L.A. and Asia de Cuba exceeded the hype. The restaurant is absolutely GORGEOUS and the staff, from the hostess to the busboys were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Even after requesting to move twice, our hostess, Stephanie, was a sweetheart. If possible, procure seating as close as possible to the windows, which offer amazing views of L.A. We couldn't read our menu because the wind made it impossible to keep a burning candle, so we relied on our server's suggestions of the shrimp skewers (to die for!), butterfish (melts-in-your-mouth delicious), and lobster mashed potatoes (interesting and tasty. My date and I lounged on the patio after a few strong drinks and enjoyed our entire evening. A wonderful location with beautiful views and decor, and scrumptious food. And you've got to love the huge pots of trees. Pros: food!!!, decor, location more

terrible service 8/27/2004

I went there ordered my food and somwhere down the line they forgot to tell the cook about my order. Later a waitress comes back and wanted to take my order and I said I ordered about 30 mins ago and I have not even got my drink. The only good thing about this place is the airheads waitresses on high heels and sexy dresses. This is the kind of place that if you are not a celebrity, a man with a six pack stomach or a beautiful young woman you do not worth nothing for them. For the prices that you pay in this joint they should treat like a king, no matter who you are. Pros: good view, sexy waitresses, sexy waitresses Cons: , airhead servers, careless staff more

GREAT ATMOSPHERE 7/13/2004

If you can keep your eyes off the view from top of the hill over the LA basin, you'll see the great decor of this uber trendy restaurant - trendy, yes, but still elegant and tasteful. And the patio is just spectacular. The food didn't disappoint, either. Huge portions and they tell you it's family style, but you really wouldn't want to bring kids here... The wait staff was actually very helpful, friendly and not very pretentious. Overall quite a pleasant dining experience. Pros: Ambience, Service, Food Cons: , Trendy more

Great food but what a price! 5/17/2004

The food is excellent but the ambiance leaves much to be desired. We sat on the patio and unless you're at one of the few tables right next to the glass overlooking Hollywood, you won't get much of a view. Plus the tables are so tight together we spent much of the evening sliding our chairs in so that the waiters could get by. My husband and I spent $250 for dinner, drinks and dessert. The food was great and if there had been an amazing decor, it may have been worth it. I wouldn't blow that much for what we received. more

fusion that WOWs 2/13/2004

the view is amazing, as is the intimate atmosphere with a ritzy old-Havana feel. Everytime i've gone, they've been running behind their reservations, but I've never had a problem just waiting at the bar with WONDERFUL mojitos. Lobster mashed potatoes and calamari salad are both musts, as ADC uses high quality interesting ingredients (hearts of palm, bananas and citrus vinagrette in the salad, semi-sweet potatoes make up the mashers). It's great for groups, as there are tropical communal drinks other than just wine. It's a good value as the family-style servings comes out to roughly $25 per person for the food. One bad thing: parking... even with validation, the mondrian charges at least 15 bucks for valet, and there's hardly any street parking... Pros: food, view, atmosphere Cons: , wait with reservation more

Excellent! 12/27/2003

I've have been to Asia several times and each time I like it more. The food is great, the drinks are strong, the service is wonderful, and the crowd is upscale. Reservations are easy to get, even on a Saturday night, and seating is prompt. The only thing I don't recomment is the sushi...any of them. Pros: Easy reservations, Food, Ambience Cons: Sushi, Parking is expensive more

Romantic 12/20/2003

The perfect romantic and fancy spot for couples. With excellent drinks, and a flexible menu, you're date will be more than happy. I recommend ordering something that is not on the menu, especially if you're vegetarian or vegan. They may be able to make you something that is a lot more interesting. Pros: Drinks, Service, Ambience Cons: A Little Expensive more

The Truth 10/17/2003

It is a cool place. I have come here 4 times. Twice with some rude friends of friends and the staff handled them well. I got what I paid for and will continue to go back. Food is good as are the drinks. Give it a try, just check over your bill as it sounds like some waitresses are trying to save up for a new handbag. more

Interesting to the Palate 8/25/2003

Had lunch with a girlfriend and took advantage of their special $20 3-course lunch prix fixe. Very worth it! The food wasnt excellent, but tasted really interesting. The view wasn't all it was hyped to be though, as there was a building blocking it. Service was really good, though, and the interiors were very sleek and modern. Drinks were a bit pricey though ($5 for a glass of pineapple juice, $13-15 for martinis). Pros: Nice interiors, Interesting Taste, Reasonable Prices Cons: Nothing exceptional more

$$$$ not $$$ but Good 8/4/2003

From the valet to drinks to food to wine its $$$$. The menu changes a bit over the year, but the signature items remain the same. The food is very good and unique (but better suited to mixed drinks than wine), and it is served in large portions for family style dining. People watching plus city views provide plenty of entertainment. The crowd has plenty of BP, nouveau riche, working girls/women, The Biz and SkyBar types all mixed in with those whom simply enjoy good food. Pros: Food, City Views, People watching Cons: Price more

Barely Warm 7/30/2003

Seated promptly, but had a long wait for the food, which was then served cold. Pros: Parking, Crowd Cons: Crowded, Food more

Good thing it's got views.... 5/16/2003

I'd say that the location for this restaurant is to die for. Set atop a hill overlooking the valley, it's decor is a dream come true for a minimalist. We spent some time at the bar and had a creation called Te Cubano, which was really good. The drink prices were a prelude to the dinner.... The waiter suggested that the three of us order two entrees for sharing since the portions are large. Don't believe that for a second. I'm used to large portions but this was an exaggeration. We had only water at the table with our one appetizer and two entrees and I ended up spending $156 not including the bar drinks. Pros: Location, ambience, drinks Cons: prices more

A Classic 4/7/2003

Very hip, very posh, always incredible. the lamb is to die for, and the calamari salad is great too. the beef satay will rock ur world!!! adjacent to sky bar, it is great to either get there early to have a drink outside or stay after the meal for a night cap. the prices aren't too bad. great for a group or a date. this restaurant is a classic! Pros: great food, posh decor, adjacent to Sky Bar more

Ambiance on Sunset 2/16/2003

This is a great place for a date. Good looking crowd and a very beautiful ambiance. Service was a bit slow, but friendly. Menu was ""different"", but if fusion food is your thing, then definitely try this place. Save room for dessert and have the ""Bay of Pigs"" banana split, you won't be dissappointed! Pros: Ambiance, Good date place more

Enron de Cuba 2/3/2003

Lying waitress ordered double of each appetizer without telling us. When the bill came we checked it over and saw that we were billed for 8 appetizers instead of 4. The waitress said that she wanted to make sure we each got a piece so she ordered double of everything. I guess they don't have knives in Cuba. In addition, she charged us $100 for a $65 of wine. Asia de Cuba should go public. They will fit right in with all those corrupt corporations. Pros: Good Food Cons: Lie to Make More $$$ more

good eats... 1/16/2003

the ecclectic mix of asian and cuban cuisine was pretty good. try the fried fish with sauce...and the various martini concoctions were actually very interesting, not to mention the interior lobby of the mondrian hotel. Pros: food, mondrian hotel, atmosphere more

overpriced 1/15/2003

$75 per person for a quantity that barely qualifies as an appetizer. Atmosphere as stark as In 'N Out Burger. more

the worst service in town!!! 12/13/2002

(1)poor reservation system-message only and never rutrun your call. (2)beatuiful watiress and waiter with terribly attitude. (3)the food is dry and tasteless. more

In the Middle... 12/2/2002

I really wanted to try the tasting menu and didn't realize it was 6 courses! i was completely stuffed by the end of the evening. i thought the beginning courses were best. the dessert was ok. but the menu changes often. the ambience was awesome and staff were really great and very helpful. i'd definitely go back again but will probably opt for the calamari salad next time. Pros: great views, great ambience, very good service Cons: expensive, paid parking more

  • The restaurant at the uber-sleek Mondrian hotel is a white-on-white fantasia packed with expense accounters, hotel guests and pretty people on dates. Philippe Starck cuckoo clocks line the stark walls, while hundreds of tiny lights create a warm, romantic glow. The patio, with its surreal giant clay pots, ficus trees and panoramic views, is one of the loveliest dining spaces in town. Caribbean-Latino-Asian dishes are served family-style. Crab croquettas are a lighter spin on crab cakes, giant Asian pesto grilled shrimp with wok-charred coconut-pineapple is flavorful and the pan-seared ahi is a favorite with its mashed potatos topped with crunchy wasabi peas. Desserts are elaborate architectural concoctions that don't sacrifice flavor for height: The Bay of Pigs banana split is a humongous tower of chocolate, coconut, ice cream and yes, more than a few calories.
