Colorist ruined my hair 2/28/2012

I have been Going to the salon since it opened. Their hair cutting services are outstanding. But, my recent experience with the ""senior"" colorist Amalia has more than disturbed me. Through a number of mistakes ( or just lack of knowledge) I spent an entire day (11-5) having my hair colored a greenish-brown ( I was suppose to be blond). 'trying to correct, or extract the color - my keratin treatment was extracted by using a shampoo that should not have been used, and re-coloring it - to the point of extreme damage. I had to return the next week to have my hair cut short to remove the damaged hair. She should not be allowed to work in this otherwise excellent salon. more

GREAT JOB 10/20/2011

Araceli had been doing my hair a while back and I recently returned to her. She knows her stuff and explains the process before she does anything to your hair. Very professional for her to do that. Definately recommend. Wil definately be going to her more often :). Go and experience it for yourself. more

Really bad haircut 6/20/2010

I'm not a fan. I paid over $70 for a very bad haircut that I needed to get fixed. When I told them I was not satisfied with my haircut, instead of trying to remedy the situation, they told me I could book another appointment with the same stylist for another $70 (ummm I don't think so) to fix it. Naturally, I went elsewhere. I feel bad outing a specific stylist, but she was one of the pricier ones, so I had expected much more. This was definitely the biggest waste of money. My hair looked boxy and awkward when I walked out. I'll never get those $70 back, but you can be sure I won't throw more money down the drain by coming back. Perhaps a different stylist here would have done a good job, but I had a really bad experience that I was very upset about. I expected so much more after hearing good things and judging by their prices. Cons: Ugly, boxy haircut, Bad customer service more

Alice didn't really listen to what I wanted done, she kept telling me how busy she was, and overall rushed through the haircut faster than imaginable. I was almost in tears when I saw how much hair she cut off when I was going in for a ""trim"". I looked like a middle-aged washed up politician when I left. Unless you want to feel like a walking money symbol and not someone being taken care of, don't go to Alice or this salon in general. Pros: pandora station playing? Cons: rushy hairstylist, pretentious workers, awful! more

Great cut and color 7/11/2008

I've been going to Art and Science in Evanston for nearly 3 years to get my hair cut and colored. Every single time Brady has done a great job with my highlights--he creates a very natural color that all blends together and still looks great growing out. Very friendly too! I've had several different women cut my hair (which I always keep chin length or shorter), and with only one exception I have liked my haircut every time. The exception was actually one of their more experienced and more expensive stylists--she cut my hair uneven but I went back and they were nice about fixing it for free. In general I go with the newer stylists--they're rates are lower and they are just as talented as the more expensive ones. The clients include women of all ages and some men too--overall a friendly and professional atmosphere. Pros: Cheaper than Chicago salons, friendly staff, talented stylists more

The staff at Art + Science were extremely rude and acted as though I was wasting their time. My stylist was dressed completely unprofessionally and she didn't listen to anything I asked for. This place rocks 3/20/2006

Compared to most other salons in the area Art and Science is for sure on the edge. The staff has really fun ideas for hair and take the time to do a full consultation before getting started. They recomended proper shampoo and conditioner to maintain my new color. I had a really great experience and cannot wait to come back. I arrived early for my appointment and my stylist was right on time! I have been back several times and have not had to wait. I feel all the staff are very professional and caring. It is a really busy salon so there is always a buzz in the air. I like that if people are there something good must be going on. Pros: good price, open late, garage nearby more

art + science is my favourite chicago salon . upbeat atmosphere , well trained staff and about half the price of my old salon downtown . i read the "" 3 ring circus "" review and i just don't get it . i've seen clients in the salon , from 18 to 80 yrs and everybody seems to be having a great time and looking great. if you want a more old fashioned experience, pick just about any other northshore salon (they're all pretty much in the L7 ilke ) and you should be safe . Pros: price, quality, atmosphere more

i've been coming to this salon (as well as my brother and mother ) for seven years and i love it. the atmosphere is fun, the cuts and color are great and the staff has a great attitude. there is no salon on the northshore who is the the same league as far as the quality of the work and the prices are reasonable compared to the oak street prices i used to pay. i love the fact they don't try and be all new age, like most salons/spas these days ( i love the upbeat vibe ). i did a couple of semesters in london when i was in school and this place reminds me of the salon i went to there, give it a try. Pros: great cuts, great color, cool vibe Cons: driving to evanston more
