Good... Not great 8/29/2011

That was my wife & I's take of Anthony's. While the views and the Wine selection was great, that is where the greatness ended. Service was good and could be great if you kept the waiters in the Burgundy vests (head waiters I am guessing) over with the snobs and let the regular waiters in the black vests do their jobs. The regular waiters were great and very easy to talk to and get recommendations from. As far as the food goes, it was good... no real complaints other than price. Again, Good not great. Also, we are not fans of open floor dinning, one big room with tables lined up. It is like eating in a church set up with tables; a nice building, just not where I like to eat, the other diners are to close and to loud. I take customers to dinner fairly often and this is not somewhere I would take them and try and talk business. more

what a memorable experience 7/16/2010

we went there for my 69th birthday, my boyfriend is in a wheelchair and the madre D let us park right outside the door as the handicap parking was full, he then took the wheelchair out of the trunk and pushed him himself into the restaurant. that nite we got engaged he proposed on bended knee right in Anthonys, They gave us a complimentry baked alaskan for my birthday the food was outstanding... Anthonys staff made this the most wonderday event of my life. Our captain Paul was warm friendly, professional and knowledgable dont miss this place its Great. Pros: service wonderful more

A wonderful place 5/29/2009

My husband and I went there for our wedding dinner and the staff was so amazing they treated us and our guest like we were royalty!!! The whole staff came to congratulate us which just added to the friendly atmosphere!!!! This is such a romantic set up the pianist plays such classical music for such a perfect setting!! The food and appetizers were so delicious!!!! It was the best time I had in my life!!! We were given a complimentary bottle of wine that we had ordered and my husband and I saved it to open on our one year anniversary to remember the great day that we shared with our friends and family and the wonderful staff that made all this happen. If that wasn't enough they gave us and our guest a complimentary desert that was over the top!!!!! The views are so amazing the dinning area which we sat was so beautifuly decorated and looked out to the beautiful mountains and the city. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!! Thank you all for such wonderful service and making our day so special!!!!!! Pros: Amazing service and Staff/ Breathtaking views more

An amazing place...especially for a special occasion!!!! 3/7/2009

Anthony's in the Catalina's Tucson is the PERFECT place for a special event! My boyfriend proposed to me at Anthony's and as soon as the wonderful staff at caught wind of what took place...they treated us as though we were royalty. After we were given some time to enjoy our moment...we were congratulated by the ENTIRE staff on duty. Even the chef came out to greet and congratulate us!!! We were given a complimentary appetizer...which was the best LOBSTER tail I've ever had in my life!!! Our entrees were soooooo delicious and we were given more than enough food to last us for DAYS!!! As though a complimentary appetizer was not enough...we were also given a complimentary dessert. Even the other patrons at Anthony's were super friendly and added to the already welcoming atmosphere!!! One outgoing waitress even offered to take us outside for some post engagement photos!!! The scenery outdoors is amazing...a view of Tucson, a large fountain, white twinkly lights, etc. The indoor atmosphere is equally as beautiful. There were beautiful decorated mantles, a piano player and a very swanky tablescape! I can not say enough good things about Anthony's! My fiance and I even agreed that no matter where we end up in the world we would fly back to Tucson solely to enjoy another dinner at Anthony's. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!! Pros: Breathtaking indoor/outdoor atmosphere, wonderful service, scrumptious food, great prices for what you receive more

Dont Bother 3/2/2009

If all you care about is good service, then this is your place. To be honest, the appetizers were good, but the main dish was terrible. It wasn't just me either, all of us at the table felt let down. The best thing the owner could do is remodel a blah atmosphere and scrap the menu. I can't recommend this place to anyone. more

In this economy... Anthony's is too little for too much. 12/21/2008

Anthony's is perhaps the most overrated restaurant in Tucson. The entrees are overpriced. One could find better quality at various other upscale restaurants for about half the price. The staff is condescending and the service style is overwhelming. As a guest you are forced to remember which staff member you need to ask for a particular thing. For instance, if you want a cocktail, you have to talk to the cocktailer. Any of the other waiters, the captain, front waiter, back waiter, waiter's assistant, busboy, wine steward, etc cannot help you if you want a refill on that gin and tonic. Apparently they have the most impressive wine list in the universe, but in this economy, who has the cash to dig into that cellar for an ultrarare $500 bottle of bordeaux? Especially when you could find it at a good wine store or special order yourself for a fraction of the price? Atmosphere is lacking as well. In addition to the brusqueness of the staff, the acoustics in the place can be maddening. Everything from other tables' conversations to the maitre d' barking at the waiters in the kitchen echos through the dining room. On a crowded evening it sounds like a cafeteria in there. For the same bloated prices, one would do better paying out for more creative dishes served from the kitchens of Hacienda del Sol or the Ventana Room. Pros: Top Notch wine cellar Cons: Pretentious staff, lack of tranquility, overpriced menu, unimaginative entrees. more

Well not so bad, but no as good as most think 9/30/2008

The food was Ok for those who have dined around the world. For Tucson it is definitely above average. But seriously it isnt saying much. There are quite a few new restaurants popping up that really are going to push Anthonys to stop playing around. Their prices are insane, the servers are average at best. The views are great. But that cant be all there is. Anthonys has had a good run, we have enjoyed them for years. But its time to catch up to some of the newer restaurants in Tucson, Oro Valley, etc. Pros: Great VIews, Ok Food Cons: Super high prices, low value, not very good service for what you are paying more

Wonderful Restaurant 9/29/2008

Anthonys is actually the only DRONA (Distinguished Restaurants of North America) restuarant in Tucson. And it shows! The service was the best you can get in Tucson. The food was amazing and the views are beautiful! A great place to go, one of the best in Tucson!! You will not be disappointed, can even be compared with some of best in NYC, which is hard to do around here. So do not listend to this TucsonJoey character, he must not know what a an upscale restaurant should be like. Pros: Fantastic Food, The best you can get in service, beautiful location more

HUGE WAST OF MONEY 9/26/2008

The employees uniforms were absolutely filthy! Food was average. Wine glasses smelled like old bar rags, Vintage Champagne ordered from wine list was not what what Solmelier brought out, yet he didn't bother to mention it. Had to point it out to him! This once good restaurant is way passed it's prime and belongs on Kitchen Nightmares! Janos is a way better choice. Pros: None, because the only dining room used had no city view. Cons: Worn out! Dirty uniforms, loud and obnoxious waiter, wrong vintages, smelly glasses more

The Ambience is out of this world 7/5/2008

I had a really great experience at Anthony's. I found the restaurant to be extremely romantic. If you like wine, the wine list is absolutely amazing. We enjoyed wine on the front porch, while enjoying a sunset. I really loved the live music they had that night. The dining room was impressive, as you could see Tucson and the mountains from all angles with the huge panoramic windows. The service was excellent. My lobster bisque was probably the best lobster bisque that I ever had. I ordered the duck au poivre, and I was actually disappointed with that. I found the sauce to be somewhat gross. The duck was decent. My boyfriend's veal was delicious, though. We enjoyed our desert. I found it to be a little over-priced, but then again, you are paying for a beautiful environment, live music, terrific service, as well as some compliments of the chef. If you don't mind paying top dollar, then you would enjoy Anthony's. This is the perfect place for an anniversary or special occasion! Pros: Service, Ambience, Wine Cons: very pricey, small menu more

Excellent food preparation and presentation. Wine Spectator Grand Award for wine speaks for itself. Exceptional, detailed service. 6/30/2008

My wife and I visited Anthony's last week for the first time during our week-long visit to Tucson and experienced wonderful food, wine and ambience. Our first impression, the bar, was excellent. The dining rooms are impressive in every detail (with or without the stunning views of both the mountains or the city!). As a quirky observation, even the pianist was well versed in popular favorites and classical repertoire - a very refreshing detail. Anthony himself came to our table to greet us and made an exceptional recommendation pairing our double lobster tail appetizer with the Jarnum Pinot Grigio. The half bottle of Amarone Speri complimented our entrees perfectly - The roast duckling au poivre is as good as anything I've eaten anywhere, including Paris. The head waiter, sommelier and assisting wait staff were as efficient and helpful as they were engaging and courteous; increasingly rare, even at many fine dining establishments that we have visited. After dessert (try the Chocolate Mousse cake!) we were treated to a special after dinner drink comprised of a special Italian lemon liquor mixed with prosecco, a perfect way to end a fabulous dinner. I highly recommend Anthony's. Looking back, the only way we would have enjoyed it more would be to have friends and family there from Las Vegas to enjoy it!! Worst Customer Service Ever 5/15/2008

After hearing so much about the place, we were really looking forward to the experience. We sat down and ordered a $60 half bottle of champagne. We then waited 15 minutes for anyone to come to our table and inquire about our food order. The waiter came to the table and was extremely rude when we suggested that we would like to order some appetizers to go with the wine and asked some questions about the menu. He did not come back again. There were only 6 other tables in the restaurant (Monday night). After 25 minutes without anyone taking our order, we asked for the check for the champagne and left. We went to the Arizona Inn, where we were staying, and had a wonderful meal. I would never go back to Anthony's again. Pros: Beautiful Setting in Foothills, Nice Facility Cons: Really Poor Service more

Great place 5/16/2007

I can't say enough about this place. Now, I can't say it isn't pricey, but you do get what you pay for... more

Mediocre 1/14/2007

Although the service was good and the city views are great, the food was really mediocre. My soup du jour (beef barley) was so salty I did not eat the tiny portion that was served. The Lamb Wellington was flavorless and tough and the fish dish was a tad overcooked, in my friend's opinion. We were seated relatively near the kitchen from where we could hear rude comments from the servers, including a comment from an apparently annoyed trainer to a busboy that, ""you have to keep one hand free at all times (when you are carrying a tray?) so that you can pick your nose!"" I am not making this up. We considered walking out at this point. Don't waste your $. Pros: City views Cons: Mediocre food more

Best wine selection in town. Food is out of this world. Veal Marsala is the best in town. 11/21/2006

From the minute you walk through the doors you are taken straight to Italy with the atmosphere, wines, great food and attentive staff. The views of the town are spectacular at night and enhance the dining experience beyond belief. Prices are a little higher than other Italian Restaurants but well worth it. Pros: City Views are spectacular. Enjoy any wine you can imagine. Outrageously good food Cons: A bit on the pricey side but well worth the money more

good, but overpriced+ service needs a little work 5/2/2005

Food was good but we've had better. Seemed overpriced. Service was overattentive. Asked if we needed sommelier and we said no, but he came anyway, and definitely put pressure to sell. Towards the end (10pm) The service was removing tablecloths and silverware in our presence, and we could hear the conversation in the kitchen. They were obviously in a hurry to get rid of us, so we obliged and didn't even stay for dessert Pros: ambiance Cons: expensive more

The best Tucson has to offer! 1/13/2005

Most people with class know that an attentive staff is the cornerstone of any fine dining establisment. Anthony's in the Catalinas excels when it comes to prompt but not rushed attentive service. The menu features copious indulgences that will make the snootiest epicurean's mouth water, with a wine list that is second to none. The staff is polite and knowledgable, and it is apparent that they care about the guest's dining experience. I would highly recomment Anthony's in the Catalinas to anyone who is fond of the finer things in life. Pros: Valet Parking, Wine Cellar, Reservations more

Not a good value 12/27/2002

Anthony's has decent food, but nothing spectacular. Given the cost, you can do much better. The location is great, and service can be impressive. Overall however, you can get better food at better prices in many Tucson restaurants. more

Stellar! 11/21/2002

Not only have I had many unforgettable meals at Anthony's, it has been the precursor to countless romantic evenings with my mate. It has remained our favorite way to reconnect and indulge in fine dining, a spectacular view, excellent food and service, and ultimately, each other. Pros: Intimate, Fantastic Views, Delectable Menu more

at home at anthony's 7/19/2002

i was suprised with a romantic dinner here and was absolutely impressed with not only the quality and timeliness of service, but the views were amazing and the food was delicious. I have since then recommended Anthony's to many friends Pros: wonderful views, excellent service, superb cuisine Cons: bad parking more
