*Breathtakingly* expensive. If you're not prepared to part with 4 figures don't risk making the appointment. Get estimates for *everything* up front. I really liked Dr. Pilny...

All I can say now is that I wish I chose Cornell in Stamford over The Yonkers Vet Specialty Center. At the time I was 50-50 as to which one to choose. Unfortunately, for me and my cat, I chose wrong and his cancer was missed. We still ended up at Cornell but by then it was too late to help him. Wish I would have gone there from the beginning because we would have a different outcome right now. I saw the care provided at both facilities and can honestly tell you, that Cornell is the better place to take your sick or injured loved one. more

My husband, myself, but most of all, my poor dog, received uncaring, unprofessional, and arrogant service from the doctor, with whom we dealt with.\r \r For just having dared to voice concerns about my dogs' possibly receiving too much anesthesia, along with the long waiting time, we were treated with vindictive rudeness, by Dr. Heuter. My poor dog had a scheduled appointment for a nasal infusion of ant-fungul medications. My husband took the day off of work, woke the dog up early so she could have her last drink of water, and went through great lengths to prepare the dog for this uncomfortable procedure. When he got to the office, Dr. Heuter said he wouldn't treat her, because I wasn't there. \r \r Then after my husband pleaded for him to do the procedure, as my poor dog has been so uncomfortable, and needed it so badly, Dr. Heuter finally said he'd do it, but only if my dog waited in a crate in the back room by herself for over 2 1/2 hours, without my husband being allowed to stay with her. \r \r Again, my husband tried to explain that she is an old, and nervous German Shepherd, who does not like people, and is very well behaved and soothed by him, while she waits for the procedure, but Dr. Heuter, refused to allow it.\r \r My poor husband and dog, left the office, and we have rescheduled with another hospital. This doctor wasted a day's pay, a sick day, much aggravation, but most of all another weekend in which my poor dog has to be uncomfortable with a bad fungal infection in her sinuses.\r \r Dr. Heuter's behavior was unconscionable, unprofessional, and downright cold hearted. Do not go to this hospital, if you can avoid it!!!! more

Don't go there! 9/24/2014

it's a ripoff!\r Money first, animal second!\r don't go there if you have any choice.\r they are overpriced, they make you pay for services you don't need. if you leave you pet there you have to pay from midnight to midnight. and they will not tell you about their pricing policy in advance. more

it's a ripoff. they don't only offer all the services they listed here they make you go for all possible services they have in the clinic. we came there in emergency and agreed for 2 days treatment. Our dog did not get better and we had to put her to sleep on the 2nd day. They charged us for 3 day and explained that their billing policy is from midnight to midnight. more

Leading edge tec & Doctors plus best in class care and compassion 6/6/2014

Leading edge technology and Doctors combined with best in class care and compassion. Our dog Riley was like a child to us. He became very sick very suddenly and after many test could not conclude the cause our Vet suggested we see the Animal Specialty Center (ASC). ASC immediately saw us but unfortunately Riley was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was devastating for our family to hear the news but being at ASC in our time of turmoil with expertise and caring of ASC was a great comfort. The level of caring immediately was evident. The tumor had taken Rileys’ sight so he was scared if it was quite. I brought a radio for Riley when he was staying overnight but the nurse told me Riley would be ok that they played soft music for the dogs since studies showed it helped healing and Riley could stay where he would hear people walking.\r I immediately started a search across the US and even into Europe for top experts and the best care possible. I found top research programs in the brain tumor area at the University of Minnesota and UC Davis. I consulted both directly and with the help of Dr. Richard Joseph from ASC. These top experts confirmed for me that Dr. Josephs’ leading edge CyberKnife was the only viable treatment path. In fact, it was one of the only few practices with such technology and expertise in the country.\r Unfortunately, god had other plans and Rileys’ tumor was too aggressive and fast for him to stabilize enough for the procedure. For my wife, children and I it was one of the most devastating times of our lives as Riley was only five. Dr. Josephs and ASC did everything possible for Riley. At each decision point they clearly outlined multiple alternatives and the cost with each alternative. ASC never pushed us to spend extra money and in fact as the inevitable was clear and I refused to acknowledge it, I spent more money on treatments than what ASC recommended. We were in a very vulnerable state but ASC kept Riley and our interest as top priorities and help inform us and guide us for good decisions.\r I cry as I write this but the day all too quickly came for my wife, daughter and son to give Riley final hugs and kisses. This was a devastating day but ASC helped us through with love and dignity. Though Riley was very sick they had him comfortable on cozy blankets and pillows. We had a lovely room to talk with Riley, hold him, kiss him and love him. The ASC staff constantly came in to give Riley treatments. Riley needed to go back to the treatment room. We decided Riley was moved enough so we went to him in the treatment area. I was very scared to see what it would be like but was shocked at how great it was. It was bustling with staff attending to many animals. It was high tech and gorgeous. Riley was in intensive care but made so comfortable. Every staff member even in their busy routine stopped to check on Riley and support us. I could not imagine a more loving and secure environment. \r So should you go to ASC – YES. It would be easy for me to be bitter but what I have in my heart is love and thanks for the care and extreme measure they took for Riley. This has been extremely difficult for me but I find great comfort knowing Riley was in the leading edge care of the entire country and everything that could have been done was. I also take great comfort knowing that ASC showed Riley the love and attention he needed to be happy in his final days.\r more

Thank you Dr. Joseph! \r Today our 11 year old Black Lab, Teddy, had the cyber knife stereotactic radiation procedure for a meningioma (brain tumor) at the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, NY. Teddy’s doctor, Dr. Richard Joseph, was fabulous, as was the entire staff at ASC. Teddy was diagnosed with the tumor at NC State (we live in NC) and we traveled to NY because ASC is only one of three facilities in the US that has cyber knife. Instead of weeks of radiation treatments, only 1 or 3 treatments is required. And, happily, Teddy only needed one treatment. My husband and I are so glad we chose ASC for Teddy’s cyber knife treatment. \r \r As an aside, as we were waiting for Teddy to finish his treatment this morning, a couple brought their Dalmatian into the Animal Specialty Center. It turns out that the two year old dog had suffered a 60 foot fall and had broken his back in April and was brought to the ASC for treatment since it was such a serious situation. Today was his final re-visit as he bounced around the office at full speed! About a dozen staff members and doctors came out to hug the dog and the owners goodbye. Some had tears of joy in their eyes because they were so happy that the dog had done so well. This Center is full of people who truly care about the animals they treat…\r more

Bless you Dr. Jeanne Budgin\r \r 4 years ago Molly, our beloved English Pointer, suddenly developed strange red spots all over and at the suggestion of her regular vet, put us in the hands of Dr. Jeanne Budgin whose specialty is dermatology. I made the appointment and it was a match made in heaven for all! Dr. Budgin spent an enormous amount of time collecting information about Molly- we were with her for over 1 hour and while she thought she knew what the problem might be needed to spend a little more time investigating to exactly what Molly had – and she did. Over the course of 1 ½ years we met with Dr. Budgin and her nurses who were always welcoming and kind– the prognosis was spot on and her honesty how to “cure” Molly’s skin problem and what we could expect with the medical protocol was accurate. Molly became spot free and remains that way today.\r \r Jeanne Budgin is a warm, caring, and compassionate doctor with a wonderful sense of humor and she is incredibly bright. She gave us confidence that Molly would get better and we knew that we had made the right decision to see her. Each and every appointment with her Molly received the same care and attentiveness as the first time we met. Dr. Budgin always took the time to respond to emails even after Molly got better – she just really cares about her patients and their ongoing welfare.\r \r Dr. Budgin’s “table” side manner with Molly put us at ease but most important put Molly at ease. She is a true professional who treats each patient with love and great care that only a great doctor can do.\r \r In a few words – she is simply the best.\r \r N & J – Rye, NY\r more

I have two dogs that have had serious health issues through the past 4 years . I am confident that they could not have survived through their ailments had it not been for the amazing professional care of the doctor's and staff at ASC!\r One of my dogs has an auto-immune disease that almost took her life a few years ago but thanks to Dr. Jeanne Budgin, and her very competent & caring staff (especially Catherine McNeely, who is one of the most wonderful people I have every met ), my dog has not only survived this disease but has also been happy and healthy under Dr. Budgin's care. I am, and will be, forever grateful for the compassion, love, and care in which Dr. Budgin showed me and my dog and for her continuous effort in giving my pet the best quality of life in these past years. I have nothing but respect, praise, gratefulness, and the highest of recommendations for Dr. Budgin and her staff! Also, a special shout out to Dr. Mary Buelow who performed oral surgery on my dog's problematic teeth and eased her discomfort. \r My other dog had two knees with serious issues and she was in constant pain. She had reached a point where she could not stand up with her hind legs and could barely walk. Thanks to the amazing Dr. Dennis Ting, and his wonderful staff (especially his assistant Eric Zamora who was so loving and caring of both my dog and myslef), my dog is now pain free and able to walk and run and enjoy her life! Dr. Ting performed two knee surgeries that successfully changed my dog's life to that of a healthy & happy pet. I cannot be more grateful enough for his care and for all the time he took to meticulously explain everything and walk me through the surgery procedure and healing process. \r I feel so lucky and grateful to have found these wonderful skilled professionals who have made my life and both of my pets life's so much healthier and happier. Thank you, Dr. Budgin (and Catherine)! Thank your, Dr. Ting (and Eric)! We would have never made it without you! And thank you to all the staff at ASC, receptionist and accountants, who have also been so courteous, caring, and professional throughout the years. \r more

Dr. Jeanne Budgin, dermatology specialist at ASC, made the last several years of my cat Olive's life the best she ever had. Olive suffered from chronic skin allergies that a series of vets had been unable to diagnose and that caused her aggravated itching, discomfort, and fur loss across her face. Dr. Budgin began a very thorough course of diagnosis and treatment for Olive that included lab work, dietary testing, interim steroid medications, a customized allergy serum, and finally the gradual introduction of a life-saving drug, Atopica. After Dr. Budgin's careful adjustment of dosage, Olive experienced the first consistent relief of her symptoms ever. All her itching ended, she regrew full facial fur and elegant whiskers, and in her later years she was calmer and happier than I had ever known her to be. \r Throughout our years of working together, Dr. Budgin and her staff at ASC showed amazing skill and thoroughness, flawless follow-through, and (perhaps above all) total concern and affection for Olive. I always felt Dr. Budgin's professionalism in equal measure with her loving compassion, and I would recommend her without qualification to anyone needing a superb specialist. She's the greatest, and I know Olive would agree.\r more

My sweet Cody was screaming in pain when we took him to Dr. Joseph at ASC. The MRI showed he needed immediate surgery. From his first moments at ASC to his release, Cody's care was exceptional. The front desk staff, technicians, aides, interns, residents, they all were professional, caring and sympathetic. I even received a text photo of Cody after surgery to soothe my rattled nerves. Dr. Joseph is lauded for his diagnostic capabilities and surgical skills. He must also be recognized for a compassionate bedside manner that is too often missing in veterinarians. I cannot say enough about how positive my experience was at ASC. How indebted I am to Dr. Joseph and his colleagues. And most of all, how strongly I recommend the facility and its staff. more

Our oldest dog Juliette started having seizures in April 2011. Upon having her examined by our vet in Greensboro,NC, she was referred to a local specialty center. She was diagnosed as having a cystic meningioma, and it was estimated that her life would end in two months or less without some type of treatment. Due to her age which was 14 years and 2 months at the time, the recommended treatment was chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Upon further investigation, we discovered that she would have to undergo 16 to 20 radiation treatments within a period of four to five weeks, each time under anesthesia. We ruled out this type of conventional radiation treatment because in all likelihood she would have never survived that many times under anesthesia, and we were very concerned about the side effects of the radiation. If she had somehow survived all of this, the best case scenario was a survival time of eleven months. Our situation seemed hopeless. We desperately searched for an alternative and discovered radiosurgery. Then, we found Animal Specialty Center, the only veterinary hospital in the world with Cyberknife Radiosurgery. Dr. Joseph was frank, yet hopeful about Juliette's prognosis. We drove from NC to Yonkers, NY, and she received one treatment on June 15, 2011.There were no side effects whatsoever. On August 13, 2012 we returned to ASC for a follow up MRI which showed that the tumor was of similar to slightly reduced size, the best news possible! She also had a minor surgery while under anesthesia for the MRI. more

monicas mobile grooming 4/29/2012

Nice experience! Needing to change groomers can be a nerve-wracking experience; everyone wants their 'babies' to feel stress-free and comfortable. Monica made both Candi and Soxie feel right at home, making sure to be aware of their individual needs and problems, and the grooming results have been wonderful! It's obvious that Monica cares a great deal for her animal clients, and it shows in her work and makes their families happy too! more

DISASTER FOR BIRDS PLEASE STAY AWAY!!! 11/9/2011

We brought our Parottlet bird who couldn't move and was leaning forward upon recommendation from Laurie Hess an Avian vet who couldn't care much for the birdie because it was the 4th of July, and her birthday..Well..I don't care. There was no Avian Vet in this outfit, and the staff was clueless. We thought that the birdie would get TLC and feeding, but was put in Oxygen, some heat, and four hours later only there was an attempt to feed him, which may have killed him by feeding through the wrong pipe, since one of the staff member didn't even realize when we came to visit that a bird is not lying on its side, unless it is dead!!! He kept knocking on the glass thinking that it is alive!! The worst experience, and neglect. Looks inviting from the outside, but horrible service for birds. It would have been much better just to keep him with us, and give him the love during his last 4 hours. more

Excellent Care for our pet! 10/5/2011

We had a fantastic experience at ASC. One of our dogs was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. Our regular neurologist referred us to Dr. Joseph and he was more than accommodating answering all of my questions. His team was fantastic from his techs to the front office staff. There was one over night tech I was less than happy with but over all the experience was a good one. Our dog went in for Cyber Knife treatment. We spent a week at ASC and our regular vet was amazed at how good he looked after the procedure. They took very good care of him and called me in the AM and PM every day with status updates, and someone was always available to give me a status update when I stopped in or called. We could have taken him over over night, but I thought it might be best to keep him at the hospital during the week. They were always more than accommodating. I also witnessed them with a lot of other patients while hanging out in the waiting room and they did a very good job I thought, and we've spent A LOT of time in ER rooms and vet hospitals. more

DONT GO 9/17/2011

New to the area and having pets we asked many people in neighborhood what was the best place to go and were surprised that they did not recommend Animal Specialty Center. Sadly we tried ourselves and were very disappointed in the lack of caring, could not get a Dr on the phone, and lack of communication for care when we left ( we did get alot of care when we paid). The overnight team was terrible as our pet looked half dead in the morning. The place looks very modern and well equipt but bells and whistles do not make a caring pet hosptial. Appears the warnings about this one specific Dr. who is not liked are all true. We would not recommend this at all. more
