Editorial review from Citysearch 6/15/2013

On 6/15/2013 I called and explained to the girl that I had a emergency with my cat who has been throwing up and not eating and drinking for the last few days and asked if i could work out some type of payment plan due to my hours being cut at work. She was a little abrupt in her response that we don't do payment plans and full payment is due at services rendered and I explained how sick my 3 year Persian was and that I just lost my mom and this was her cat and I couldn't handle another loss this year. I felt her compassion towards myself and my cat was lacking any warmth and definetly heartless. How does someone work in such a heart felt field and lack compassion?? Well this place is a prime example of it and should have their doors locked and closed down by the ASPCA. SHAME ON YOU FOR BEING SO HEARTLESS!!!! more

VERY rude and cold staff. The doctor was going to admit my cat overnight because she was dehydrated and throwing up for 3 days repeatedly, but once they found I couldn't pay them with anything but a post dated check for the same week because I got paid on Friday (it was a Monday night) they actually had the nerve to make me call my family and friends for 1/3 of the bill up front. I had been unemployeed for 6 weeks and just started a new job and don't get paid until Friday. Then after a friend agreed to pay the money to get her admitted, they decided that they would not keep her overnight and they turned us away with nothing but a script for amoxicillan. Next day, my cat went into ketosis and was unresponsive and almost died. Oh, and now I owe my friend $170 for NOTHING. These people do not care about animals at all. They care about money and that's it. And since the office visit should have been $85 and they weren't going to admit her overnight, where in the heck did they find it necessary to charge $170????????????????? CROOKS!!\r \r Thank goodness I went somewhere else. They actually did an examination and found that she had a piece of dental floss or string under her tongue which probably led all the way down her digestive track. They are keeping her overnight and doing a barium xray to find out if it will be able to pass or if surgery will be involved. She didn't need an antibiotic in the first place, first and foremost she needed people who cared and an IV full of fluid and medication to stop the stomach spasms. The people at the Animal Emergency Clinic are rude and don't know wtf they are doing and just want money. I was so insulted by their behavior and phrases like ""this is not a charity"". I DIDN'T ASK FOR IT TO BE FREE, I ASKED IF I COULD POST DATE A CHECK FOR FRIDAY. I DON'T THINK THE CAT WILL LIVE UNTIL I GET PAID AND SHE NEEDS IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY HELP.....DUH! They didn't care. Oh and besides a wrong diagnosis, they double charged my friend's debit card which caused her bank to overdraft and checks to bounce with multiple fees. THEY HAD BETTER PAY HER FOR THIS. CROOKS! They didn't want to help me or my furbaby. I will never go there again. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there to treat their pets in an emergency. more

Awesome Staff 4/21/2012

I just took my 6 year old chihuahua to the clinic because she was attacked by another dog. They staff was excellent. They were very caring and considerate. We ultimately decided to have her euthanized because of the extent of her injuries. They offered a cast of her paw and offered to let us be with her. Everyone of the staff was concerned for us knowing how much she meant to us. They even placed her in a small casket so we could bring her home for burial. Can not say enough good about all of the staff and Dr. Hoeft. Pros: null Cons: null more

Have a difficult time understanding the negative reviews 12/27/2011

I really have a difficult time understanding any negatives. We've never had anything but a good, professional experience here and would totally trust them with our precious dogs' lives. Tonight was our third or fourth experience here and again, just very impressed. more

Traumatic Experience!! 1/29/2011

I took my cat here b/c he had just stopped urinating on a Friday night. He has never had any problems before. He would try to go, but couldn't. I immediately took him to the hospital. They kept him until Monday morning at 6am (my pick up time. The hospital praised me on how early I noticed it. Well, when I went to pick up my cat that Monday morning, he was not ready. I waited & waited. It was now about 8am. The doctor told me that they had been unable to give him his medicine the whole time he was there b/c he was a "handful" and that I should have the regular vet (that I was to go to after I left there) to give him the meds ASAP. Shouldn't they be experienced with this? My cat is scared & timid around strangers and in a strange environment. He was an indoor cat and never around other people or animals. But he did go to his regular vet who has given him all his shots & neutered him. The vet had no problems handling him. The attending physician was Dr. Toni Bannister. So I told them I h more

The doctor told me that they had been unable to give him his medicine the whole time he was there b/c he was a ""handful"" and that I should have the regular vet (that I was to go to after I left there) to give him the meds ASAP. Shouldn't they be experienced with this? My cat is scared & timid around strangers and in a strange environment. He was an indoor cat and never around other people or animals. But he did go to his regular vet who has given him all his shots & neutered him. The vet had no problems handling him. So I told them I had to go b/c I had to start a new job that morning. They told me that my cat was covered in his own feces and they have not cleaned him yet. I told them I would have to take him that way & pay to have the vet wash him. Why they would let that happen I do not know. Then I was at the checkout & there was 1 gentleman in front of me. They explained to him that his bill was going to be $200 more b/c his cat had pulled out his catheter. then I was up & the same lady said ""Guess what? You're cat did the same thing! They must have been in together on this."" So I also was charged another $200 making my total bill right under $800. I did not like the joking on her part. And what are the chances of both cats doing that? I was also not happy with the meds not being given & my cat covered in his own feces. I feel that they were mean, rough, and neglectful with him. I dropped him off at our regular vet & they called me a short while later and informed me that my cat had passed away. They said it was from Cardiac Arrest. I know my cat & he has NEVER had a problem at the vet office. This hospital & it's employees should not be in business & should be accountable for their actions. These are not just disposable animals...they are members of families and should be treated with the same respect as humans. They are incompetent and I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I would drive to the Spartanburg hospital before I went here again. And on top of it all they overcharge people. I did call them & told them what happened & what my feelings were. They were very nonchalant and really didn't seem to care. But they were glad to take my $800. My family vet sent me a lovely sympathy card. \r more

Thanks, But I Hope I Never See You Again! 9/23/2010

Late saturday afternoon my dog gashed open her side. She wasn't bleeding but It was big & nasty. When I got to the clinic, the place was packed! I filled out the paperwork & waited my turn. While waiting I saw sick & not so sick pets & hurt & not so hurt pets. I watched the receptionist skillfully juggle phone calls, paperwork, questions, check outs, & incoming emergencies. One lady came in & caused a scene about the "obscene" cost of the office visit & how they were gonna "let her pet die". I was really upset about this until she reached into her coach bag, pulled out her droid with her ring covered fingers, cussed into the phone & peeled out in her rover. I still ffelt so sorry for her pet. I was getting nervous waiting but the receptionist explained how more urgent things had to go first. I was a little mad but I know that if my dog wasn't able to breath or was in really bad shape, I wouldn't want one of the not so sick dogs to go before us. The wait had nothing on a person ER (ive more

Don't go here. 4/29/2010

Great Vets Indeed for Pets In Need 1/27/2009

The middle of the night and your dog has bloat and requires surgery. Saturday afternoon and your dog has ingested a medication she shouldn't have You thought that chocolate cake was far enough back on the table but your dog managed to eat the whole thing. All these happened to me and my saving grace was Animal Emergency Clinic. You will be required to pay at time of services but it is so worth it AND the staff is wonderful. Pros: excellent staff - full hospital, surgical and er services on nights and weekends Cons: payment at time of services more

If your pet gets hurt - this is the place to go! more

Emergency Vet 12/7/2005

I am a pet sitter and I took a dog to this vet clinic at the beginning of the summer I believe. It was around 11 or so at night and I was really worried. The staff there really were helpful and put me at ease. They got the dog back right away and examined her. The receptionist was super helpful and the Dr. explained everything to us in terms average people could understand. They only down side was the cost ,but that is worth it when something needs to be done fast. more

Very happy with their services 12/3/2005

My parents and their dog came from FL with their dog for the Thanksgiving holiday. During the drive here, they noticed the dog's side of his head getting swollen. Figuring he got bit by a snake or something before they left. By Sunday morning, their dog was not acting himself and his face was still swollen, we decided to bring him here. The staff and doctor was so friendly and caring. The surgery went well on what turned out to be an abcess and the dog was released a few hours later with clear instructions on cleaning, follow up and medications. I would not hesitate to drive again from Anderson to Greenville to bring my own animals here. more
