Would not recommend 11/13/2013

I wouldn't recommend. My 18-year old cat was there on a Saturday with a suspected UTI. In just a few hours I had incurred about $800 in bills. I was advised to let them keep cat overnight for additional $1,000 and tests. Then on Monday, they would do a cardio work up for $600+. I had to keep mentioning this cat rebounds after antibiotics and fluids. I was given options, none of which were to put cat down or take her home. I took her home with fluids. Also, they gave her antibiotics as a pill. I tried to get a shot as giving a cat pills is hard but they didn't recommend it. In the end, I was not able to get her to keep pills down and my own vet eventually gave her a shot. I feel the emphasis was on padding bills and not being realistic about treating an 18-year-old cat that I know better than they do. more

Best ER around!!! 12/6/2012

Everyone who has written a review is complaining about money. This business is an ER. They are going to be much more expensive than your regular vet.\r \r I had an outstanding experience at the PetEr. I brought my golden in and he was diagnosed with IMHA. This is a fatal condition if left untreated. I was completely sadden to see Riley so sick. They doctors explained in much detail what was going on with his health. The nurses that worked overnights when I visited were so kind and understanding. I don't know what I would have done if it wasn't for the great doctors on staff though that week my boy was there. My bill was about 5,000$ having an animal is like a child. If you can't support them, don't have one! I'm baffled that most of these reviews are saying "I then went to Falls road and magically my animal was fixed" I feel as if they are fake... With that aside. I was thoroughly impressed with the standard of care my pet received! more

My Pet ER Experiernce 2/5/2012

I have had two experiences with them over the past four years, rejected their care in a third; both cost between three and four thousand dollars each and in both instances the pet did not survive the experience. They were kind and attentive to my pets, but they didn't know what they were doing. I know that Chesapeake Vet is in the same space, I paid for consults with them on both occasions, both times it didn't matter. \r \r The first involved my 12 year old yellow lab who had neuropathy that caused her esophagus to collaspe. My vet should have put her down when I carried her into her office in the am. Desperate to not let go of a longtime companion, my vet did a tracheotomy to her and sent me to pet er. My dog spent two days struggling there at great expense before I let her go. In this case I feel the tests they did were useless, they did offer a complicated 12k operation to her (chesapeake) that she probably wouldn't survive, this was after 2 consults. I feel in hindsight the more

Emergency Euthanasia 1/23/2012

Last Saturday I came home from work and found my 14 year old cat, Lizzy, breathing hard and panting...I rushed her to this Pet ER and from the moment I walked in and burst into tears- to the end when I was crying and taking my empty carrier out the door- these folks were super attentive, professional and genuinely caring. The young man at the front, Brent? was super sweet. The Vet tech that came rushing to get Lizzy- again super sweet. The Vet herself, and sorry can't recall names, very professional and caring. I could not be there for the euthanization because I faint- so thankful for the people that put my baby girl down so she would no longer suffer. I know that part of the job must be so difficult for them to do- so the biggest THANKS for making my sweet girl be peacefully at rest. If you all were not there, she would have suffered miserably until my Vet. opened on Monday- way too long. For an emergency euthanasia on a Saturday night-it was $177.00- very reasonable. I know it is ex more

great experience, wonderful care 12/31/2011

Our 1-yr old husky recently went on a rampage that involved consuming and unknown amount of tylenol and a ton of chocolate. We took him here, he was instantly seen and treatment was started. The staff is awesome, the front office staff and techs are always friendly and available for questions. Drs. Johnson and Alcan were especially great, we felt very assured with our dog in their care. It is pricey, but it is an ER afterall. You're also paying for round the clock close supervision and monitoring, which in our opinion is worth it. We were told that his treatment would be between $3,000-4,000 and required a $2300 deposit to begin treatment. Our bill ended up being less that the estimate so we were pleased. We would definately recommend this ER and will use it again if another emergency arises. more

Would definitely go back 12/24/2011

First of all, to all those who say this place is expensive, it is an emergency room afterall. I also took my cat to my own vet as an unscheduled emergency, and they charged me MORE for the emergency visit than Pet ER ($125 vs $75). The three times I have used them they have been very kind, urgent, and informative. They actually put down our neighborhood stray cat FOR FREE. I would definitely recommend them and go back to them. I took my cat in there at 4:30 in the morning because he was having seizures and they took excellent care of him. more

The Pet ER, Towson MD 11/7/2011

over priced, and the people arent caring. i understand they are a business and need to make money, but they take it to a whole new level. 75 $ just to be seen, and god knows what theyre going to charge you for after that! if you cant pay, theyre going to tell you that if you dont, they are going to a collection agency. so i said, "what are you going to do ? keep my dog and never give him back?" the women was like, "well let me go talk to the doctor". she came back, and took 3 medications and another charge off of my bill...that my dog didnt even need, i later found out i could have paid 4 dollars for the same medication at target!! theyre just a joke, it was my onlly option unless i wanted to travel for an hour, but i will do everything i can to make sure i never have to deal with these people again. more

CRUEL AND HEARTLESS! 9/26/2011

These are the most heartless and insensitive people I have ever encountered! Unless of course your loaded.... \r We bought our 6 year old Rotty in on Saturday evening suspecting she had bloat, which if you know anything about the disease is a dire emergency. $940 later they told us she did in fact have it and the surgery would be an additional $3000. Well, since it was Saturday night, it was needless to say a tad difficult to come up with that kind of cash. However, Monday morning it wouldn't have been a problem. They said she had only 6 to 8 hours to live and REFUSED to do the surgery unless we paid upfront. We offered to even let them keep the dog until we paid the bill because again, Monday morning we could have done so. So we had to pay them to euthanize our baby to keep her from dying a slow painful death.\r My qustion is, why in the hell would these doctors spend all the time and money on schooling when they could care less about the animals> It's all about the $$$$$$$$ and n more

The worst vet experience. 5/30/2011

Awful. These people are horrible. My dog was bleeding from a wound to its ear. They made it wait for 7 hours before getting to it. When they finally did, he escapes out the back. THEY DID NOT CALL ME AND TELL ME ABOUT IT! I called them to ask if the procedure had been done. When I arrived they told me he had been gone an hour! The head vet was an arrogant jerk. I found my dog an hour later bleeding from the era and a poorly run I.V. tube in his leg. he was overheating, almost suffering heat stroke. We managed to cool him down, and get him sedated. he was in dire need of fluids and the operation to close his wound. They did the necessary work - which I reluctantly agreed they should. DO NOT bring your pet to this place. It is a nightmare run by morons. It took all of my will power to not pursue a lawsuit. more

Will NEVER return here again, hundreds of dollars for a misdiagnosis 4/21/2011

First, I have never supplied a negative online review, but I am so unhappy with the service and the response at PET ER that I feel the need to share this.\r \r Please read all of the reviews and carefully assess the negative ones. I wish I would have done so before taking our dog there.\r \r We brought him in with an injured leg on a Sunday hoping for correct diagnosis and treatment. We hoped for too much.\r \r After 4 hours and $330, they had xrayed him and said he had a broken toe. We were offered the choice to spend $400 more and put on a splint or spend $1000s and schedule surgery for later that day. We declined both options since we had limited funds available to pay the extra fees and preferred to take him to our normal vet the next day who could work with us on a fixed income.\r \r Thank goodness that we did... our vet showed us the xrays from Pet ER which clearly showed that it was his front LEG not a toe that was broken. Even a 5 year old could have clearly seen the fracture along hi more

If you want to spend $4000, come to this ER 1/7/2011

Having one bad and expensive experience at this pet er you would think we would have never gone back but unfortunately we were told to go there by our regular vet and had no choice. We brought our very sick dog there and three days and $4000 later, she was no better. The first vet that examined her missed a large abcess on her head but that first day still cost almost $2000. By the third day we had enough and moved her to the the pet er in Catonsville off Frederick Rd. which is where we should have gone in the first place. We've always gotten wonderful care there. So, avoid this place at all costs, and I mean costs. There is no question in my mind that they performed unneeded tests. We would spend anything on our animals but we don't like to be taken advantage of when we are in a situation and in my opinion, that is what this place is all about. more

MS 12/22/2010

I HAVE JUST HEARD A HORROR STORY FROM MY CO-WORKER, LISA DREYER, ABOUT THE HORRIBLE TREATMENT SHE received when bringing in her very sick dog to your facility at 9pm last night. The dog was burning up with fever and was having seizures.INSTEAD OF RUSHING THE DOG IN AND BEGINNING TO TREAT HIM, THEY BEGAN TELLING HER IT WAS $75 DUE BEFORE THEY WOULD SEE THE DOG.\r IN THE MEANTIME HE WAS SEIZING....YOU THEN TOLD HER YOU WOULD ONLY TREAT HIM FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SHE HAD IN HER POCKET. \r YOU TOOK HER MONEY AND WOULD NOT EVEN MEDICATE A SICK AND POSSIBLY DYING DOG. \r I DO NOT UNDERSTAND? DO YOU PEOPLE EVEN CARE ABOUT ANIMALS?\r I SHOULD REPORT YOU TO THE SPCA...\r IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.\r I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW HOW BADLY SHE AND HER POOR DOG WERE TREATED.\r AND IF HE DIES...ITS ON YOU! more

Quick, Professional, Affordable and Caring 5/1/2010

What more can I say? My experience was what I would want and ER visit to be. I've never been to an ER where the staff was more on top of things. I'd use them again in a heartbeat but hope I don't have to. more

Love Love Love This ER!!! 5/1/2010

Ok as far as I can see there is only one valid bad review of this place. I cant believe I have to say this but of course an ER visit costs more than a regular vet appointment. Its the same for humans, emergency visits always cost more and this place is far more reasonable than others I have visited in the area.\r \r Ive been to Pet+ER several times now and every time has been over and above great service.\r The first time I visited Pet+ER was in the middle of our incredible snow storms when my vet obviously couldnt make it to their office. My dog had what we later learned was a spider bite and swelled up like a balloon. It looked so scary. We gave her a Benadryl but it didnt seem to be doing anything so we went to Pet ER. They were beyond nice! The whole thing was quick and cheap ($75) and pleasant. She got two shots and a little observation to make sure nothing else was going on. The doctor that time was a woman, I dont know her name but we liked her a lot. \r Months later on a more

BEST and most reasonably priced pet Er 5/1/2010

I adore this ER. After several bad experiences at falls rd (they lost my dog once, $$ etc) animal hospital I was looking for a new ER and my vet strongly recommended this one. It's soo great. The staff are knowledgable and so kind (obvious animal lovers). My vet tech friend came with me when I brought my pup in and she was very impressed with how knowledgable the staff were. I've been to pet ER several times now with different pets and am always happy with my care. I've own pets my whole life and this is by far the best emergency care facility I've been to. These people really care.\r \r Oh and to the person who complained they always tell u to come in, they have to do that by law as a people ER does. Otherwise they're liable. \r The people who wrote bad reviews I don't undrstand. Maybe this place has improved or maybe it's just them. I unreservedly reccomend Pet ER to anyone. more

Pitiful facility and staff 4/6/2010

Very poor service with 2 animals on 2 occaisions. Staff was rude, lied to us, as verified by facility administrator, regarding OR setup times. Mishandled 2 c-sections with 4 vets and 6 techs present, with 2 of 6 pups surviving. Obviously, I will NEVER use their services again. more

YOU REALLY HAVE TO BE SMARTER THAN THE DOCTOR OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCE! 9/28/2009

I brought my dog to PET ER on Saturday. My complaint was that he was acting like he had done something wrong. He wasn?t wagging his tail.\r I know my dog very well.\r \r We were met by Dr Alcan who examined him and remarked that he had a normal ?gate? and said that maybe he pulled a muscle. She began pressing each vertebrae. When she got to his mid-back he let out a LOUD wince. She said perhaps he had a ruptured disc. \r She suggested blood work and xrays to rule out any sign of infection and organ failure. We waited for this to be done.\r In about an hour she came out and said everything looked great! His blood work was perfect. Organs great. She said most likely it was a muscle or disc issue OR suspected degenerative disc disorder and she was going to send us home with anti inflammatory and pain meds and recommended that if in 3 days he was not better to see a neurologist.\r \r I paid the $580 bill and the tech brought him out to me and said.. He?s a bit wobbly we gave him an injec more

don't go ever 9/3/2009

I took my dog when his leg was broken and it was $75 in the door once there it took an hour before someone saw him they didn't offer pain medicine instead told me xray would be $150, 500 for cast and surgery would be $2500 and I had to pay that night. I took my dog out and took him to his vet the next day(Saturday) xrays were $40 and received a cast for $150. Today my dogie is doing fine; will never go there again. The only good thing I could say about the experience is they faxed my paperwork to my dog's vet. I would advise never go there. Prices play on your emotions and love of your pet so they charge ridiculous prices because there are not many other options. Think first or break your bank account before going. more

Pet Plus Er is terrible! 7/6/2009

Useless waste of time and money. They tell you to bring your pet in no matter what. They get you for 75.00 before they even look at your pet, then there are ridiculous charges on your way out. The staff is uncaring and were very unhelpful with my situation. When I left, I had no better of a situation then when I went in. I was just a150 dollars poorer. Do not go unless an extreme emergency. more

Pet Plus Er is MEAN 6/22/2009

These people are some of the most heartless, mean people I have ever dealt with after years of raising dogs and cats. My dog is dying of cancer; my regular vet is pretty great, and has been very supportive and helpful. However, they refer all after hours calls to the Pet ER in Towson "on top of Luskins Hill." Well, tonight my dog was doing terribly--it's a weekend--so I called this place. Keep in mind I have 3 small kids and the dog was in such bad shape she really couldn't be moved. I called the Pet ER and asked just to speak briefly with a vet there AT ANY TIME--not immediately!-- just to see whether I should bring her in ASAP or could wait til the vet opened in 8 hrs. Well, the nasty receptionist, in her Balto. accent (I have one too, OK! it was just annoying hearing this mean, officious woman lecturing me) kept saying "We do not do phone consultations." I was crying and weeping b/c I did not know what to do for my dog and she just kept saying "We do not do phone consultations. Yo more
