Nice beside manner, unprofessional and unacceptable otherwise 10/6/2008

Initially, I was very happy with my experience here. The vets and front desk staff were always kind to my dog and welcoming to me. They stayed open late once to remove a tick from my dog and didn't even charge me. However, the first time I boarded my labrador retriever for a weekend, she came down with a very nasty case of kennel cough a few days later. The staff assured me that this was common, but I've read that it can be caused by dirty conditions, and after seeing some of the other reviews here I'm convinced that was the case. The worst experience I had was when I scheduled my dog to be spayed. I brought her in at 9:00 AM and had not fed or given her water since 9 PM the night before, per their instructions. At 2:00 that afternoon (five hours later) I called to check on her, and was told that they were understaffed and had been too busy with emergencies to perform the operation. I understand emergencies take precedence, but was appalled that they had not called to tell me to come pick her up, and instead had left my dog sitting in a cage all that time when she could have been home with me being exercised, fed, etc. They insisted they had not had time to call but I think that is ridiculous. I am going to another vet. Pros: Nice vets, good beside manner, appear to love pets Cons: Inconsiderate, unprofessional, stupid more

really poor customer service 8/14/2008

we just adopted a puppy and got a few friend's recommendations to go this place. the first few times seemed ok..i agree with other postings that say the place does smell, the wait time is definitely unpredictable even if you make an appointmen (my first time, I waited almost an hour) and there are animals just roaming around the office, which i found unsanitary. the real problem with this place is that they have more than 1 vet attending to your pet, so depending on the day of your appt, you may get someone different who will tell you something different. and even worse, none of the vets seem to communicate to the front desk or to each other! for instance, we were told that vaccinations can be done every 2 weeks. so we called to make an appt for a 3rd round, and the receptionist scheduled us. when we showed up, the vet there on that day told us it was too soon (she prefers to give them 3 weeks instead) and turned us away! then when we went back, we asked about getting our dog neutered and the vet told us between 4-6 months is fine. our puppy is 4 months, and we scheduled an appt to bring her in. AGAIN when we showed up, a different vet told us she recommends the dog get neutered at 6 months and turned us away again!! seeing as my boyfriend and i are both working professionals, we have to take time off of work to bring our puppy in for these treatments and this place seems to have no problem in wasting our time. \r \r seems like nobody bothers checking your pet's chart to see what the best course of treatment is. they leave it up to you and they just want you to make an appt. if you ever call in and have questions, the receptionist is not helpful. she'll only recommend that you make an appointment, and then when you come in, you waste time waiting around, then they end up turning you away! i think it's just poor customer service and shows that even though they may care about your pet (which i'm not totally convinced they do) they definitely don't care about you. Pros: vets have a good bedside manner Cons: front desk is not helpful, no communication, more than 1 doctor seeing your pet, pricey more

AVOID this place 5/14/2008

Recently I took my dogs there to be boarded while we went out of town. I sent a friend by two days later to check on them. She asked the girl at the front desk how my dogs were. The girl replied "" Oh Great! They're down stairs playing and they have a cat friend!"" My friend , having an odd feeling asked to see them. The girl's face went blank and she said okay. When my friend got downstairs she found my 87 pound Golden Retriever in a cage too small for him covered in feces. MY other dog was also sitting in a cage of feces. My friend angrily said this was unacceptable, demanded for them to be bathed, and took them home an hour later with her to care for them until I got home. Neither of my dogs have ever used the bathroom in the house and have been to top obedience schools. The only answer for this is that they fed them something they shouldn't have and neglected to walk them. Prior to dropping my dogs off at the office I came in to see where the dogs were boarded. The desk lady showed me the kennels just passed the exam rooms. They looked nice and spacious. I reserved a large one so they could be together. One week later I returned to drop them off with 2 pages typed of instructions, their food , and their own blanket. My friend found them without their blanket, in nasty cages DOWNSTAIRS and they were not together!!! ON top of that they did not feed my dogs their own food and they were sick for 3 days! They also ran straight to their water as soon as they got home and drank as thought they hadn't had water for a long period of time! This is a vet's office!!! THey didn't abide by anything I asked. Everything I asked was in writing and was also stated in a signed document. The girls who worked there were just hanging out upstairs while my dogs were down stairs being mistreated. There were NO OTHER DOGS in this facility being cared for other than mine at this time. THis is beyond unacceptable!!! This is a VETS office!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! Pros: seem friendly Cons: neglect your animals more

Clean, friendly and accomidatiing 3/4/2007

I stopped by to take some pictures I needed for a show and Dr. Gappas was nice enough to let me use her facility. The office was very clean and that helped with my shoot as well as the animals who were very well taken care of and in good looking condition. The staff was very friendly and I felt comfortable the whole time. Dr. Gappas goes out of her way to accomidate each person and pet at the clinic. Thank you Pros: My animal past years ago but Dr. Gappas helped him live well beyond his years Cons: Ny traffic, I have to learn how to ride the sub more

avoid this place 9/19/2006

Both my cats were patients of Dr. Gappas for a short period of time. I thought she was a good doctor because she is caring and called to follow up on my cats. However after bringing my cat in for a sonogram for her heart (in order to prepare her in getting her teeth done) and than picking her up, she got a cold and began sneezing. She is 12 years old and has never gotten a cold. I figured out why this happened-because of the place! They have about 15 cats walking around (dogs too) and they go outside as well and than come back in! The place doesn't smell like a vet office SHOULD smell like when u walk in-sterilized and clean. Instead it smells of cat urine. Not only that but whenever I go there I have to sit on a magazine rather than the seats since they are filled with cat hair. So I came to the conclusion that since my cat never has gotten sick she before must have gotten sick from one of the cats there-especially going outside. I thought Dr. Gappas was good, but the fact that she allows an animal hospital to be in that kind of condition is a disgrace. To make matters worse, now my other 4 year old cat got a cold as well. We had to bring him and her to another vet and get medicine (I refuse to bring them there anymore). Even after calling Dr. Gappas to complain she first said it is the diet we are feeding them (which is BS because I have had cats for 20 years and none of them have ever gotten sick) but than finally admitted in her own words ""well maybe they did get sick from coming here"". All in all I will NOT be going back there, they are a total disappointment. Pros: caring Cons: place smells, is dirty, wait a long time more
