LOVE LOVE LOVE this place 6/21/2008

the beef tendon here is very good, OH SO GOOD (better than momofuku ssam!). the sliced conch is seriously phenomenal, spectacular. cold jelly chengdu style was super delicious and neat/different. the pork blod cake pork intestine and bean sprout in hot sauce kind of pushed it with me at first -- i love black sausage (not that these two things are similar at all), but the pork blod cake rubbed me the wrong way (i've never had it before, and it's not necessarily something i said ""where has this been all my life?!?!?!"" about) but the intestines were good and the dish was over all very very good. i've had other dishes but can't remember them at this time. i will write more reviews... Pros: SPICY TASTY Cons: Time goes by so slowly (I can't wait to go back) more

VERY SPICY 2/13/2007

If you like spicy food, this is the the spot. Fresh ingredient combine with great culinary skills makes this a great spot to dine. Two thumbs up! Pros: spicy food/cheap eats Cons: flushing/parking more

Aptly Named 2/12/2007

Went around 7pm on Sat. night and waited about 10 mins for a table. Apps. were delicious (dan-dan noodles- an unexpected but savory flavor, eggplant in hot chili sauce, dumplings in hot oil) the pork in the dumplings stood out as being very juicy. Dinner portions were gigantic; we could've easily split one dish between us. Mildly Spicy Chicken was good but a little on the salty side. Lamb in chili sauce was spicy and flavorful. The cucumbers we ordered were the perfect cold crunch to the spice in the dishes. Dinner for two (no drinks beyong the complimentary tea) with enough leftovers for another whole meal came out to $40 with tip. Wonderful and above average chinese fare. Pros: flavor, cheap eats, assortment of dishes Cons: parking is difficult more

Best Sichuan Food We've Had in America. Period. 12/9/2006

My wife is from Chengdu, the capitol of Sichuan province. And she is a real foodie. Recently, we had a late nite dinner here and it was simply the best and most authentic Sichuan food we have had outside of Chengdu. The specific dishes we ordered and most highly recommend as being both the real deal and absolutely stunningly delicious are the following: hong you dumpling (spicy dumpling in red chili oil sauce), fu chee fay pian (husband and wife beef tendon cold in spicy sauce), double cooked pork with leeks, shway zhu niu (beef dish drowned in hot chili spicy oil - - this last dish is not for wimps). The service was fast and efficient. Because we ordered so much (I always like my wife to enjoy the leftovers at home for the next few days), they were kind enough to move us to a bigger table for 4. We are so looking forward to taking my wife's parents when they next visit. In the meantime, trust us and know that Spicy & Tasty is far better than Sichuan Gourmet in Manhattan. But, also know that this is truly spicy food. Remember the old saying: 2 things come from Chengdu: spicy girls and spicy food. I ended up with both! Pros: Incredibly Authentic, delicious, inexpensive, nice ambience, good service Cons: I feel like an idiot letting anybody know about this place as I want it all to myself but you just have to know what real Sichuan food tastes like! more

Authentic Sichuan food 11/4/2006

I'm Chinese-American, my mom is a Chengdu native, and both my parents are obsessed with finding the best, authentic Sichuan food in NYC. Most of the staff here are from Sichuan and the food is the way it should be -super spicy and tasty, just as the name says. The food is vastly better and cheaper than similar restaurants in Manhattan that claim to serve Sichuan-style food. Get the dan-dan noodles, dumplings in hot oil to start; we followed with the fish with tofu and were very pleased with it. We were the first to arrive on a Sunday at 11:30 but the place quickly filled up soon after we were seated. For good, reasonably priced, authentic Sichuan food, you won't be disappointed! Pros: Great tasting, authentic Sichuan food Cons: Requires a 40 min train ride from Manhattan more

A Flushing Gem 1/29/2006

I've been to Spicy & Tasty a couple of times, and have been thoroughly impressed on both occasions. The food is much more delicate and flavorful than at your corner Chinese restaurant. The sesame noodles were sweet, light, and not syrupy like at other places. The shrimp with rice cakes was fresh and chewy, and the menu has plenty of special spicy dishes for the brave. I went with a very large group on a recent Saturday night, having called ahead of time, and the staff worked hard to seat us all together and create a great dining environment. This is a fun place in the heart of Flushing that all Sezchuan food lovers must try! Pros: friendly staff, excellent food, good for groups Cons: far away more

Fire up the gas burner 11/22/2002

the real deal, and the name of the restaurant says it all...crowded on a Friday night, so we had to bop on over to the Sheraton for a cold one to kill a half-hour... interaction with waiter a bit tough given our lack of Chinese-speaking ability, but he guided us through a wonderful evening...the cold noodles rock, and the shrimp and beef cooked in the boiling flavor-pot in front of us was scrumptious... a fondue-party feel with heat and unique flavors... just a few blocks off the great seven line... more
