Dishonest Salespeople 5/25/2012

Purchased a bedroom set and mattress. Salesman assured us more than once that deliverymen would remove our waterbed if we disassembled it. Furniture was delivered and halfway through assembly I decided to confirm that they would remove waterbed. They informed me that they do not remove anything except old mattresses. Called store and delvery supervisor confirmed that policy. My salesman was not working that day. I refused delivery and told them to return furniture to the store. They finally agreed to remove my waterbed headboard. Very disappointing service and dishonest salespeople.One star rating is too high. more

AVOID 1/27/2012

Do not buy from American. We ordered a mattress set (including mattress, box spring, and frame), and had it shipped to our house. I had just been relocated for my job, so we never opened anything and simply had movers pack everything up and ship it to our current location in CA. When the mattress set arrived in CA, we assembled it and found that the bed frame had been incorrectly ordered. We received a bed frame designed for a head board/foot board, of which we had neither. We called American about this, and they said there was nothing they could do if we couldn't bring the frame back to the store (not feasible seeing as we live in CA now). So now we are stuck with a bed frame, which we had paid for, which doesn't fit our bed (metal brackets stick out 5 inches past the end of our box spring, ugly and a injury hazard). Customer service was very poor, and they showed no apathy to our situation. AVOID more

Kitchen Appliances, sales team needs training 4/14/2011

We were looking for a stainless range for a family member. Was approached by a female sales rep. I told her we want to make sure we get something that matches existing stainless (some brands are smooth, some yellowish hue to them- GE - some grainy looking, etc.), and I explained to her that we need a stainless that is smooth to match an existing hood. You think she'd help us look and recommend products, brands available based on our needs? Nope. She walked away and said, you need to figure out what it is that you want. Take a look around. more

Do NOT SHOP HERE! 3/9/2011

I purchased a 73" Mitsubishi DLP from here and it will not turn on no power to it at all. Called two weeks ago to have warranty repair done and the guy came out with the wrong parts to fix because the salesman rang the TV wrong with the model number. They ordered the power supply not knowing if that was the only problem and said it would take 3-5 days. It's been two weeks and I called and they told me that it wasn't ordered till the first and then called again and they told me that it was ordered, received and sent back and re-ordered on the 2nd. They can't seem to get their story straight. I spoke with a guy from the corporate office and he offered me to exchange the TV for a down graded model from the one I paid for or I can purchase an extended warranty for $350.00. Why would anyone in their right mind take a down graded version of a TV when they paid for the up graded model and why would I pay another $350.00 to get their extended crappy service and deal with their crappy customer service/consumer relations staff. There has been nobody that has been able to give me an answer on status of a repair they just tell you what you want to hear. I guess I will have to wait now until March 18th when the initial repair was scheduled for the middle of February then I can wait for them to schedule me in with their repair guy. They can eat up the rest of the manufacturers warranty and leave me screwed just like they did to the other people that have left reviews. I have never encountered people that will argue with a customer like they do. Their motto must be customer is NEVER right and do whatever you can to avoid admitting our mistakes. more

It's been a month awaiting parts and repair for a Mitsubishi DLP TV. What's worse (if that's possible) is ongoing change of story each time I've contacted American TV customer service. They start by saying parts are on order. They diagnosed the problem as a burnt out bulb. Even my kids could diagnose it wasn't as simple as a burnt our bulb. Then they change their story saying they must verify the problem. Suggestion - Verify the problemon the front end when the customer says there is a problem! Worst Service Department, Doesn't stand behind their products. 1/14/2009

I have been trying for 11 months to get my $2000 brand new washing machine fixed with at least 6 service calls and never having fixed the problem and refusing to replace the washer if they can't fix it and my one year warranty is about to expire although I bought the extended warranty. I have had no luck with American standing behind the product they sold me. It broke within 3 months of purchase. Cons: Service Department not helpful, don't stand behind what they sell. more

Not worth it! 3/3/2008

Great prices -- Excellent selection -- TERRIBLE service. My refrigerator came with a dented door and had to be replaced; my oven was placed on backorder; and my washer and dryer were not properly installed. As a result, I had to wait a week for a technician, who called during the week to inform me that parts were ordered (for the machine he had not yet examined), and since they would not be in until the end of the week, he would reschedule for the following week. Two weeks so far without a washer and dryer . . . Also, customer service on the phone is satisfactory, but once a purchase is made -- Beware! What a disappointment here. The selection of furniture is OK, but the quality is awful. Very pushy salesmen that don't listen. I would not recommend this store for any purchases. more

Great Selection Horrible service repairs 2/9/2007

We bought many items from American. However the proof of a good purchase is the longevity. We purchased an extended warranty and it is a rare event, but well spent. They have now come to our house 6 times a little over 3 months to repair our refrigerator and it doesn't stay cold. It takes over a week for them to come back and try again. We have had to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of food from both the freezer section and the refrigerator section at least twice. The last time the tech said it must be a leak inside the walls of the unit and they will offer us a replacement settlement of some type. He stated they would see that it was not repairable and call us back. Pros: Selection! Cons: Service!!!!!! more
